Saw a friend tonight who came over, and when she did we both got a bit peckish but it was after dinner time. So I suggested a bowl of cereal (cereal is so much better in the evening) and our cereal of choice was weetabix.

She was nothing short of horrified at the amount of weetabix I placed in my bowl.
I had 4.. 4 weetabix. She had 2. IMO there's 3 mouthfuls to a whole individual weetabic..

I have been known to polish off 6, one time, but that was to replace an evening meal.
My toddler DD has 2 and she's more less than half the size of me! I've always had a pretty good metabolism and a very healthy weight etc.

Anyway, AIBU in having 4 weetabix. How many do you have?

A normal portion of weetabix for me is 2 - then a sneaky third (or fourth 😱)! Summer is cold milk winter is hot milk - both with sugar. Yummy!
However cereal (all/any cereal) is nectar to me! I love it - but can’t trust myself with it. I struggle with my weight anyway and a box of cereal disappears in no time! Any time of day!
when DC were little I bought those little selection multipack things thinking ‘well, surely I wont steal breakfast from the children?’
Ummmm, 2 days later all boxes gone! (Late night snacks! ) Man, those portions in those little boxes are TINY!
(And I’ve got a box of cornflakes for Christmas - wrapped up under the tree, for myself! 😍)

Sugar on Weetabix? 🤮

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to the dentist we go!

SpongeBob2022 · 23/12/2023 09:44

I'm going to really contradict myself here because I'd never have more than two...and yet my 9 year old is obviously half the size of me and has two as well....and has done for as long as I remember. So something must be 'wrong' with what one of us is doing!

It's been a genuine eye-opener to me reading this and seeing that 4 could be seen as a normal portion.

I sucked air through a weetabix once when I was two and I was so full afterwards I couldn't move for 40 years. Did keep me full the rest of my life after that though. And I lived to the ripe, old age of 193.

You should have just waved one around your head to get a weetabix aura, that would have been a more reserved portion.

MagpiePi · 23/12/2023 09:53

I still can’t get past offering breakfast cereal as an evening snack to a visitor…

….but, 2 with ice cold milk and enough sugar sprinkled on each one to form a crunchy topping.

You dont put out small bowls of crunchy nut cornflakes for friends when they come round?

DimplesToadfoot · 23/12/2023 10:37

I have between 2 and 4 depending on how hungry I am with cold milk and a sliced banana.

When I was a kid we were given 2 with boiled water so they went to smush, it put me off them for a long time.

A girl I used to work with had weetabix with butter and marmite

I once saw a dietician at the doctors who was shocked that I had 2 weetabix I didn't confess to 4 and so she told me "half of one was more than enough", I never went back, I'm still overweight, half a weetabix isn't worth the effort of getting it and dirtying a spoon and bowl for.

CranfordScones · 23/12/2023 10:40

If it's a snack: 2 spread with butter and honey.

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 23/12/2023 10:42

2 here plus a good helping of crunchy nut cornflakes on top with ice cold milk. 😋

aintnospringchicken · 23/12/2023 10:44

Maximum of 2,sometimes I just have 1.

A lot of food manufacturers shrink what they claim is a portion to avoid having to change the amounts or variation of ingredients, so that they can claim a portion is healthy.

It's why when you look at the boxes, a portion is something like half a pringle or a quarter moon jaffa cake. It's also why McDonald's burgers have that flimsy piece of lettuce.

My information came from the British heart foundation website.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 23/12/2023 12:56

@StBrides i love a bowl of the popped corn and cinnamon cereal (Aldi) without any milk to just nibble like popcorn! The chocolate granola used to be a great dry student snack.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 23/12/2023 12:59

OMG I have never been able to participate in MN competitive undereating before. So excited!

One for breakfast and two for dinner/tea.

MasterBeth · 23/12/2023 13:05

I'm a big fat fucker and I can't imagine eating more than two Weetabix. More than two Weetabix don't fit in the bowl!

I suspect you will find that a lot of people’s food portion size depends on the size of the plate. It’s a bit like my wine glass 😂.

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 23/12/2023 13:49

I'm not a great fan so will only eat them if there's absolutely no other breakfast option, and would stick at one but with a ton of sugar on it to disguise the taste!

Xanadu58 · 23/12/2023 13:52

2 but could easily have 3

WorriedMum231 · 23/12/2023 13:52

4 as a snack is very excessive imo. 4 for breakfast is to much for me.

lljkk · 23/12/2023 14:08

I'd have to be very famished to consume weetabix. Shredded cardboard.

Half of a weetabic wouldn't be worth getting up in the morning for!

@ChardonnaysBeastlyCat they're like baby food but seem so much sweeter than crunchy weetabix.

Should I mention my dad used to put butter on them and eat them like a biscuit?

I’ve seen people mention the butter thing, I might try it myself. Sounds intriguing.

Bur not warm milk. Anything but warm milk.

SwordToFlamethrower · 23/12/2023 16:22

2 with milk and I'm not over weight.
