Honestly! DD15 and I discovered Ghosts a few weeks ago and have been watching whenever we can. Not sure what series we're on but we've seen two Christmases so maybe series three?

Anyway - it really is one of the funniest series I have seen for decades (having been brought up on Blackadder and Red Dwarf the bar was high, plus my kids don't always appreciate the older stuff....).

Just seen one where something happens to make them all stare into the sky to remember lost loved ones. I won't spoil it but anyone who has seen it will know which episode I mean. I can't find the clip on Youtube - if anyone can add a link that would be great!! I cried with laughter - but it's poignant and hilarious too......

We are huge fans in this household 😁! If you get a chance to visit the house where it is filmed, we highly recommend you go (West Horsley Place).

Best show ever.

There’s a little gang of us on here who fancy the furry pants off Robin.

I'm a little bit in love with the Captain

jemenfous37 · 16/12/2023 04:50

The American version is surprisingly good too, but would recommend that if you do watch it, don't try to compare it with our version!
Sadly, this Christmas special will be the last ever uk episode

SweetFemaleAttitude · 16/12/2023 04:56

We used to like it, but felt it dropped off as the seasons went on unfortunately and felt it became boring and unfunny.

KeeeeeepDancing · 16/12/2023 05:03

Yes it is brilliant! .
And there's a podcast on the BBC where they talk about the making of. A very funny bunch of people!

cakeorwine · 16/12/2023 08:27

Robin is great. He also is very wise - I guess being around for a long time would do that. He knows just the right thing to say. But the caveman in him does come out occasionally!!!

ClassicStripe · 16/12/2023 08:30

I agree and the final episode was just boring and predictable. Hopefully the Christmas episode will send it off with a bang.

Comtesse · 16/12/2023 09:13

It is a brilliant series. The creativity and warmth is wonderful.

Nooo the American version is awful. Its an exact copy but with different actors. They just don't pull off British humour

You have to not think of it as them trying to redo the British version or you'll hate it. Once I'd got my head round that I enjoyed it.

PGmicstand · 16/12/2023 09:29

It's great! Have you seen the one with the Christmas wedding, OP?

Boomboomboomboom · 16/12/2023 09:30

I like the American version but it's fast paced and lacks the gentle charm of the UK series and unlikd the UK quite sexy/smutty obsessed!
Very sad here that this Christmas special will be the last after 5 series but I'm going rewatch everything again.
Mary is my favourite.

VickyEadieofThigh · 16/12/2023 09:32

YABU to have only recently discovered it! Where have you BEEN?!

Perhapsanorhertimewouldbebetter · 16/12/2023 09:32

The British series of Ghosts is hilarious. Not watched the US version.

PuttingDownRoots · 16/12/2023 09:32

The American version improved greatly when it wasn't an exact copy. The episodes where they copy really don't work. *the first one was complete dire).

Robin is an amazing character. So easy to underestimate but you come to realise he's probably the cleverest of the lot!

I couldn't agree more re Robin! I have been saying to DH for ages now that Robin is the smartest one there!

Knitgoodwoman · 16/12/2023 09:34

Absolutely love it!! I just wish there was more. I also love horrible histories (I am an adult 😬) and so much of what I love about that is in ghosts (history, the same actors).

DragonflyLady · 16/12/2023 09:39

We love Ghosts here! I like the American version too, but not as much as the UK version. I too was brought up on Black Adder, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf - and Ghosts is every bit as good!

No way! There's no zumba today! I gotta work on my core

Summerhillsquare · 16/12/2023 09:44

The actor who plays Robin is actually a bit of a hottie- look him up. (I won't spoil the other surprise for you there OP 😉)

Biscuithelp · 16/12/2023 09:45

following the scene where Thomas directs the pantomime, we now always say ‘do not disrespect my vis-ion’ at home. Useful for all sorts of situations (spoony fuckery, unwanted help with a jigsaw, moving tree baubles)

cuthbertthecat · 16/12/2023 09:53

The snowy wedding episode is my favourite. For some reason Mary getting Alison to throw the cake makes me get a bit teary.

I thought series 4 (the gatehouse one) dipped a bit but liked the last one much more. I like Pat and the Cap and Julian the best I think. And Kitty.

It is literally the only thing I really want to watch over Christmas.

MissBattleaxe · 16/12/2023 09:55

Robin's pet mouse Graeme Souness! Bum and chips. Maff. Moonah stan. He is my absolute favourite among a sterling cast. Also- watch the film Bill. They all wrote/starred in it.

It does get better. In particular the American version of the Captain starts off with some very unsubtle " I'm gay, isn't that hilarious!?" jokes, but as the show goes on they give him a romance and that's actually rather nice.

It's never going to have the magic of the original but as it moves away from the start and becomes its own thing it turns into a perfectly good sitcom.
