Honestly! DD15 and I discovered Ghosts a few weeks ago and have been watching whenever we can. Not sure what series we're on but we've seen two Christmases so maybe series three?

Anyway - it really is one of the funniest series I have seen for decades (having been brought up on Blackadder and Red Dwarf the bar was high, plus my kids don't always appreciate the older stuff....).

Just seen one where something happens to make them all stare into the sky to remember lost loved ones. I won't spoil it but anyone who has seen it will know which episode I mean. I can't find the clip on Youtube - if anyone can add a link that would be great!! I cried with laughter - but it's poignant and hilarious too......

We were late to Ghosts too and I’m now watching it for the third time with ds 13.

We love it after school with a tea and biscuits. It’s something to share together before he goes full on teenager!

Thanks for the YouTube tip will check out the bloopersSmile

We love it. DH and I talk in Ghosts language now. I have a crush on the Captain but I love all of them

ticktickticktickBOOM · 16/12/2023 16:44

Me and my son loved Ghosts.

Damn your eyes, shoulders knees and toes
We listen to women
-are favourites saying of ours.

I love Pat the best. He is just so sweet and hilarious. His high voice when he gets cross 😆

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 16/12/2023 16:46

It is a warm cuddle of a comedy, rare amongst what passes for comedy lately.

CaveMum · 16/12/2023 16:50

Robin is the glue that holds them together - he’s been there forever, on his own most of the time. The scene where he takes them outside and shows them the stars he has named after the others that have been sucked off makes me teary.

I also had a quiet blub at last year’s Christmas episode (it was repeated last night) when Pat sees the video of his family.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 16/12/2023 16:56

I’ve loved everything they’ve done - horrible histories, bill, yonderland & ghosts. I have no idea how they manage to get some of the things through that they do

were still casting off our cumbersome robes in this house 😆

It's great! Have you seen the one with the Christmas wedding, OP?

Not yet, am trying to spread out the joy as long as possible......Xmas Grin

Worth noting that Simon Farnaby (Julian) Co-wrote “Wonka” so I imagine a lot of the humour will be similar.

Mummyratbag · 16/12/2023 20:14

I'm hoping they all get sucked off in the Christmas Special !

HeyDiggity · 16/12/2023 20:31

Is it suitable for an 11 year old?

VenusStarr · 16/12/2023 20:33

I only discovered it recently and have not finished all 5 series and waiting patiently for the Christmas special (can't believe its the last one 😭) I didn't think it was for me initially so avoided it. But gave it a try and by episode 3, I was hooked. Its fab.
My sister and niece love it too after I recommended it.

That's the episode I meant - when they look up and Pat says 'let's choose that bright glittery one' and Robin says - 'Na, is international space station'! We laughed for ages....... Can't believe it's not on YouTube.

He is so funny, and wise (in between being a caveman). I'm just loving all of it, now need to watch the bloopers and Bill, thanks all for the tips!

My 8 and 11 yos love it, as do we

LuluBlakey1 · 16/12/2023 21:42

Part of our 'language' in this house. But who said these?

  1. Horsey go dooka dakka deego.
  2. Ideally you want it about 5 potatoes high
  3. Tush and flops
  4. What's your favourite morning song. I think mine is 'There's a lark in the bushel at the corner of the lane.'
  5. 'Bear was like 'Grraaar' and I was like 'OOO' and bear was like 'Raaar' and ........ you had to be there.
  6. Oh he'd make a very fine soldier!
  7. Now steady on Fanny!
  8. A lady employs a knife and fork. A lady pinches, whores use rouge. A lady wouldn't hold a carrot like that.
  9. Utter toffee- you couldn't negotiate your way out of a corn maize
  10. Ooh that's gone through that has, straight through!
janfebmarchapril · 16/12/2023 21:52

I've recently gotten into it as well. It's such a lovely funny show. Trying to get into the US one but its hard

Summerhillsquare · 16/12/2023 09:44

The actor who plays Robin is actually a bit of a hottie- look him up. (I won't spoil the other surprise for you there OP 😉)

Dosent he also play Humphrey? I'm sure he does!

SpikeWithoutASoul · 16/12/2023 21:59

It’s the only show that DH, DD and I all love. Our favourite episode is the camping one. Dip it again! Love how proud the captain is when pat gives him a badge and pat’s actually true story actually.

SpikeWithoutASoul · 16/12/2023 22:00

Oh and the Cap plays Phillip of Spain in their film, Bill. Thank me later. 😏

LIZS · 16/12/2023 22:18

Also try Yonderland, although maybe not with primary age kids unless you watch first! Highlights from Horrible Histories Mat Baynton's Highwayman and Charles 11 , the Battle of Britain pilots, the Georges song, Vikings "Literally" ...

QuackyDuckMcDucky · 16/12/2023 22:19

I love the line dancing episode. It’s so poignant and funny.

Robin is so funny, especially in the first episodes where he hides from Alison and shouts boo at her. Oh and Robin and the bear! And his mouse family, Snuffles, Maisie and Graeme Souness.

The Captain, well….. slightly in love with him.

LIZS · 16/12/2023 22:20

Yes Robin and Humphrey's head and a plague ghost are one and same actor. (All seven leads double as Plague ghosts) The director used to reveal how they shot Humphrey and featured both in same scene,

RiverCartwright · 16/12/2023 22:40

Yonderland was bloody fabulous and so underrated. I really wish they’d show it again. Also Will was funny and worth a watch.

ill miss Ghosts, it was such a simple, funny show and we seem to be lacking those these days.

For Matt Baynton fans who haven’t seen it also check out ‘The Wrong Mans’. It’s James Corden as well which puts a lot of folk off but it’s so good you can get past that.

LIZS · 16/12/2023 22:54

And You, Me and the Apocalypse. Ben and Larry wrote We Are Not Alone shown on Dave last year.

oh yes! I forgot that one.
We Are Not Alone has been on my watch list for ages, thanks for reminding me!

ColumboTheBestDetective · 16/12/2023 22:57

Oh yes Larry Rickard in the 'Literally' song - that look to camera at around 53 seconds is gorgeous 🤩

But everything the HH gang has done is first class
