Somebody keeps knocking at my door

I’ve no idea who it is. Peeped outside without them seeing me and they keep knocking hard 3 times. Then again 3 times then again 3 times. They left and now half an hour later they’re back. Would you answer? I’m worried as I really do not recognise them

It's been a while since we've had one of these threads.

There's been so many in the past and they make a real mockery of Mumsnetters, especially as the OP didn't bother mentioning they suffer from anxiety until the fourth post.

I just don't see this sort of thing on other forums and as a PP said, you have two choices - open it or don't.

Yup, people wishing to break in and murder people always announce their arrival loud and repeatedly first. 🙄

Also as others have pointed out, although "casing the joint" is highly unlikely, if that is what they are up to, they are far more likely to break in if they think the house is empty.

I get anxious if people bang on my door because someone literally did ‘announce their arrival loud and repeatedly’ before they broke into my house :( genuinely terrifying experience.

I can assure you plenty in RL do ignore, my friend is a courier and says routinely ppl celery see them walk up path/drive with parcel and just ignore, no doubt then main courier left parcel at back door.

Well OP. You won't always recognize who's knocking at your door..have you thought about that ?
So have you answered the door yet..or opened the window ?

If you're anxious but want to know who it is, why don't you open your bedroom window and shout down?
No harm they can do to you then, and you know who it is

I live alone in a rough area and that is what I do if I am not expecting anyone. Always do this if it is dark as all sorts goes on where I live such a drug dealing, a stabbing on one occasion, dodgy neighbours with all sorts of people coming and going at odd hours.

Why on earth are people telling OP to open the door of her instincts are telling her something is off??? OP don't open the door if you feel uneasy, listen to your gut. Just ask through the door who it is or through a window. Is there a neighbour you can text to pop round?

Why didn't you just open the upstairs window and look out and ask them what them want if you didn't want to answer the door.

Please check your social media local group . As where I live there is bloke who comes from and ring s the bell for few hours over and over . The police are aware and do nothing .

Most evenings I go for a walk around my area, for exercise. While on my walk I have knocked on doors to tell people:

I’ve just found their wallet in the street.
They’ve left their keys in the door.
They’ve left the door open on their car.

It could be one of those.
