Which neighbour with Christmas lights is being unreasonable?

Light hearted - I won’t be slipping neighbours a note with their Christmas card!

neighbour 1: mostly blue and cool white lights with one strand of warm white on a big tree

us: cool white lights

neighbour 2: red lights

neighbour 3: new lights this year in blue, red and warm white.

I personally think the precedent on the street had already been set for cool white and neighbour 3 should have fallen in line and 1 are slightly unreasonable with their mix of warm and cool.

But if neighbour 3 had fallen in line they might have been accused of copying! 😁

IncompleteSenten · 05/12/2023 12:49

Nobody.
Everyone's having the lights they prefer and I'm sure the street looks lovely and festive.

MrsElsa · 05/12/2023 12:49

Isn't Xmas supposed to be "as many colours as possible" ? 😄

MummyDummyNow · 05/12/2023 12:50

Is this a joke?

SurelySmartie · 05/12/2023 12:50

Wtf am I reading?!

S23 · 05/12/2023 12:51

What your street really needs is an inflatable Christmas dinosaur 🦖

LegoDeathTrap · 05/12/2023 12:51

This is the most bonkers thing I’ve read today, and I’ve read the thread about the 12 days of Christmas, the one with the dog in an Easy Jet vest where the OP lied about her location, and the one where someone wanted to call their daughter Placebo. BON-KERS.

Imisscoffee2021 · 05/12/2023 12:52

I prefer warm lights so I think you guys should follow your neighbour :p

ComtesseDeSpair · 05/12/2023 12:52

The neighbours in the street next door (one of the most desirable in the postcode with the most palatial period houses) have a festive committee whereby they agree - and enforce, no word of a lie - a colour and theme for all the exterior Christmas decorations. It’s delightfully bonkers. Give it a go next year!

WhyMeWhyNowWhyNot · 05/12/2023 12:53

@LegoDeathTrap i missed the update that she’d lied about her location!! Crazy 😳

BoobyDazzler · 05/12/2023 12:54

Anyone with cool white lights is unreasonable imo.

Underthemagnificentbeechtree · 05/12/2023 12:54

Warm lights are nicest and i really dislike blue ones as they make me think the emergency services are coming.

Torganer · 05/12/2023 12:55

Cool lights are completely unreasonable and should be banned.

ilovesooty · 05/12/2023 12:56

Oh for goodness sake. Any lights people like or no lights at all. Just no flashing ones please.

AgnesX · 05/12/2023 12:56

I don't imagine that any neighbour considered what anyone else was doing unless there are HOA rules and they live in the US.

Red, white and blue though.......🙄

TheUsualChaos · 05/12/2023 12:56

This is MN and the policy is warm white or vintage style multi coloured only. Anything else is shameful.

DysmalRadius · 05/12/2023 12:56
  1. Cool lights remind me of operating theatres.
  1. If we had to follow 'precedent' in our street, if have to buy a massive inflatable santa, but also dig out my pumpkin again (we're very much the moderates apparently).
  1. I'm a born rebel, so the idea of a street theme would be the primary deciding factor when choosing the most garish and visually offensive lighting combo.

Fortunately for everyone else, my kids insist on putting all the lights we've ever owned in our living room so our neighbours are not exposed to the shocking mix of flashing, twinkling, and clashing colours that are burned into my retinas by new year!! 😁

Sahara123 · 05/12/2023 12:56

I don’t like blue and white, so cold !

Wotwotwotwotwot · 05/12/2023 12:56

Another chiming in to say cool lights are horrible and you should have warm

Festive committee sounds dedicated. My cousins road is similar but there’s the odd house out of about 20 that never joins in so maybe they’re not invited to the committee meeting.

This!

But also the street doesn’t have to match

Saz12 · 05/12/2023 12:59

They "enforce" it...? Sounds scary, brilliant idea for Midsommer Murders though....

Chocolatecakewithsprinkles · 05/12/2023 12:59

Hate blue flashing Christmas lights especially when driving always think there's an ambulance coming. Put whatever colour lights on your own house as you want and let others do the same.

Seconded!
