Which neighbour with Christmas lights is being unreasonable?

D20 · 05/12/2023 12:48

Light hearted - I won’t be slipping neighbours a note with their Christmas card!

neighbour 1: mostly blue and cool white lights with one strand of warm white on a big tree

us: cool white lights

neighbour 2: red lights

neighbour 3: new lights this year in blue, red and warm white.

I personally think the precedent on the street had already been set for cool white and neighbour 3 should have fallen in line and 1 are slightly unreasonable with their mix of warm and cool.

I've put out: multicoloured (pink, turquoise, green and amber), cascades of warm white and today some red, gold and green. Because those are the lights I have, and I'm not going to go out and buy freezing white just to suit anyone else.

Maybe everyone just puts out the lights they already have, rather than trying to coordinate?

I'm planning more, I've sets of dancing lights and natty lilac, pink and purple sets. I usually have a glorious mishmash but I want it to be cheerful, that's my main criteria Grin

Who died and made you god?

BashfulClam · 05/12/2023 14:08

Who died and made you god?

Presumably the last god.

MonsteraMama · 05/12/2023 14:20

We've got flamingo, cactus, pineapple and palm tree lights out front this year. Daughter insisted. They do just look like colourful ones from a distance but I'm sure we've already upset some of the "warm white or nothing" brigade.

lovemelongtime · 05/12/2023 14:23

Afraid I've no idea what these definitions even mean. My garish mismatched collection clearly wouldn't "pass muster" 🤣

This is the most bonkers thing I’ve read today, and I’ve read the thread about the 12 days of Christmas, the one with the dog in an Easy Jet vest where the OP lied about her location, and the one where someone wanted to call their daughter Placebo. BON-KERS.

I'm sorry, I've looked for the dog easyjet thread and I cannot find it! And I am intrigued and very bored haha

Could you link or tell me the title 😆

Hankunamatata · 05/12/2023 14:25

Nope multi coloured lights rock

Heronwatcher · 05/12/2023 14:25

Cool white and blue lights always remind me of those fly killing devices. YABU!

FizzyStream · 05/12/2023 14:27

My opposite neighbour is the most unreasonable having FLASHING blue and white lights on ALL NIGHT. It's like having a permanent ambulance outside the house.

Went for a wee in the early hours and it was a like a disco in the bathroom (no blinds; our own fault there) but really..........

My vote is for nice quiet cool white ones with no bloody flashing!

BoobsOnTheChristmasTree · 05/12/2023 14:27

You are all unreasonable because blue Christmas lights are a fucking abomination.

HTH.

FizzyStream · 05/12/2023 14:28

Actually a gentle twinkle isn't so bad either. But absolutely No Flashing. Ever.

Migraine city.

Chocolatecakewithsprinkles · 05/12/2023 12:59

Hate blue flashing Christmas lights especially when driving always think there's an ambulance coming. Put whatever colour lights on your own house as you want and let others do the same.

About five years ago I bought multi-function blue lights for our sitting room tree.

I thought they looked okay until Mr Wicked came home from work and remarked "I see you've opted for the 'hot pursuit' setting".

I replaced them with some good old fashioned warm white ones the next day.

Cas112 · 05/12/2023 14:35

Hate cool white

even so this thread is ridiculous

Sarvanga38 · 05/12/2023 14:40

Anyone with blue lights is BU in my book, so un-Christmassy. Warm white all the way, but green and red are acceptable.

Singsonggsu · 05/12/2023 14:47

This thread has got to be a joke. What the heck?! Hahaha!
Festive committee! Some people have way too much time on their hands.
I’d be tempted to go all out with crazy dancing and mooning Santas if my street ‘enforced’ something like this!

MistyGreenAndBlue · 05/12/2023 14:50

I see no precedent. One has blue , cool and warm

One has just cool

One has red

And one has blue, warm AND red

So a fair mix all around then?

What is the issue again?

glassyhag · 05/12/2023 14:51

Cool white blue lights make me think of alien abductions and operating theatres so they have zero place being used in domestic settings. Plus I a really sensitive to blue light so it's a double no from me. Bit warm terribly lights are gods greatest gift to the festive season , right after apricot filled liebkucken hearts and right before hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. They make you feel warm and lovely.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 05/12/2023 14:58

Sahara123 · 05/12/2023 12:56

I don’t like blue and white, so cold !

Perfect for that "dying in an icy crevasse" ambiance that we all strive for at Christmas.

OneMiniMincePieTooFar · 05/12/2023 14:59

Personally I like it when everyone else repurposes their operating room lights for outside decoration. It makes my warm lights look extra cosy and twinkly.

Of course, if you prepfer cool lights then just reverse the sentence above and change the mild-mannered insult to fit. Grin

ChateauDuMont · 05/12/2023 15:09

Jesus wept.

therealpatmustard · 05/12/2023 15:09

classic tacky multicoloured static lights for me.

You are all BU for not integrating them into your themes.

S23 · 05/12/2023 12:51

What your street really needs is an inflatable Christmas dinosaur 🦖

BoobyDazzler · 05/12/2023 12:54

Anyone with cool white lights is unreasonable imo.

Completely agree.

These people need to be dunked in an ice bath and made to take down these monstrosities.

caringcarer · 05/12/2023 15:15

You are all being unreasonable because everyone knows the hold lights are the best.

TerfTalking · 05/12/2023 15:18

I like your LIGHT HEARTED thread OP.

In an ideal world where I could control my neighbours lights I would insist they were all cool white. Twinkles are ok and pretty but flashing is absolutely not permitted. Lights would be on houses and in bay trees outside. There would be nothing loud or garish or lit up candy canes down the paths.

Alas, my neighbours do whatever the fuck they like and so it looks like Blackpool promenade during the illuminations, all we need is a tram.
