To ask how often you clean your loo?

Settle an argument with DH, who thinks me bleaching the toilet each day is OTT. My reasoning- it's the grossest place in the house, why wouldn't you?!

OP posts:
Nicesalad · 02/12/2023 23:21

There's really no need to bleach your toilet every day, or even every week! Just wash with environmentally safe cleaner. You don't touch the toilet bowl so there's no need for it to be "disinfected".

SisterMichaelsHabit · 02/12/2023 23:21

My whole life I was using hippy dippy methods to clean a loo. This year I discovered bleach.

Total game changer.

We do ours once every month now to kill all the limescale (very hard water) and get rid of all the IBS stains. It's so much easier than scrubbing the limescale away with gallons of white vinegar and a coarse brush. And it gets diluted when it joins the rest of the water system, there's really nothing to worry about a dollop of bleach every now and again in the 20+ litres of water that flushes down with it, it's all about the amount you use not the chemical itself. There's far worse in the sewage system (wet wipes come to mind).

Crack on OP, there's nothing wrong with having a hygienic toilet.

Once a week

This

thaegumathteth · 02/12/2023 23:23

When it looks like it needs it. Probably 3-4 times a week but try and avoid using bleach too often

RM2013 · 02/12/2023 23:24

Toilet cleaner and bleached once a week but will give it a spray and wipe round as and when needed

AllyBugs · 02/12/2023 23:24

Bleach doesn't get rid of limescale, it just bleaches it. Stains then come back twice as quickly as the limescale is still there

lap90 · 02/12/2023 23:26

Daily.

Theoldwoman · 02/12/2023 23:33

I clean it in the morning after everyone has used it, at night before I go to bed and during the day as needed. We only have the one and it gets a lot of use!

Theoldwoman · 02/12/2023 23:34

Liz1tummypain · 02/12/2023 22:11

Not very often tbh. Only when I see evidence of shite down there. I don't have time to clean the loos every day.

It literally only takes a minute or two!

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 02/12/2023 23:39

I'm assuming those doing daily or multi-daily deep cleans don't have jobs.

Fummymummy · 02/12/2023 23:40

Anyone else horrified at the amount of toilet cleaning going on here?
😂
It's only going to get pissed and pooed on again!
Ours gets cleaned less than weekly, unless there are any skid marks which get cleaned straight away.

Rewis · 02/12/2023 23:40

About once a week and additional cleans on as needed basis.

Siha345 · 02/12/2023 23:42

When I lived on my own it was once a week. With a bf it’s once every couple of days ☹️

MsBea · 02/12/2023 23:46

I just pee in the shower, and poo at work on the company dime, so I don't ever clean my own toilet.

Joke!!!

But wow, what a terrible tragedy for the planet, all this excessive bleaching. I clean it whenever it might need it. It's not a regular chore, just gets done as and when. I think a quick swish of bleach under the rim once a fortnight is fine. Soooo bad for the planet what you're doing.

Lucytheloose · 02/12/2023 23:50

sweetpickle23 · 02/12/2023 22:45

@OhpoorMe Not on the seat specifically, but in the bowl/underneath the seat. DH has bowel issues unfortunately

Why does he not clean up after himself?

ImInACage · 02/12/2023 23:55

Bleached once a week, but cleaned daily with spray or anti back wipes while I'm doing the rest of the bathroom. Two DS's who seem incapable of aiming 🙄

granstable · 02/12/2023 23:57

I use chemicals as little as possible as we have a septic tank.

TheChosenTwo · 02/12/2023 23:58

We don’t have bleach in the house, I hate it and find it a totally unnecessary product.
My Cleaner sprays and wipes them down once a week using some kind of bathroom spray and then I do it at the weekend with a spray and cloth too. That’s sufficient enough. I’m not eating my dinner off of it. It’s just arse cheeks followed by someone else’s arse cheeks.
Each toilet has a loo brush and people use it when needed.

Feliciacat · 02/12/2023 23:58

Lucytheloose · 02/12/2023 23:50

Why does he not clean up after himself?

I have a similar situation and the reason DP doesn’t clean up after himself is that he’s too unwell to do so. Bowel issues of that severity usually have effects on energy levels and general wellness.

Pussygaloregalapagos · 02/12/2023 23:58

Well flushed every day. Cleaned with brush and product once a week.

Canisaysomething · 03/12/2023 00:00

Breathing in bleach fumes every single day - no thanks. Once a week is plenty.

Wolvesart · 03/12/2023 00:02

wherethewildtbingsgo · 02/12/2023 22:02

It gets bleached once a week. It gets cleaned in the sense that we clean up after ourselves everyday.

This and the DH does the cleaning because that’s how we divide chores

Baby2023x · 03/12/2023 00:03

I put bleach down it once per day but wouldn’t really class that as cleaning it as it does need all wiped down but that gets done once a fortnight if it’s lucky.. wish I had time to get on top of it all

LittleMissSunshiner · 03/12/2023 00:04

I live alone so nothing too awful goes on!

I clean the bowl of my loo as and when it needs it and give it a good scrub with bleach approx once or twice a week.

I wipe the seat and lid etc with a cleaning wipe approx every other day.

Cloudisi · 03/12/2023 00:07

I spray the actual seat you sit on every day usually since that's what you're coming in to contact with.

Bleach/toilet gel and scrub the bowl every 4 days or so, unless it visually needs to be cleaned prior to that.

Wipe down the entire thing, lid, base, outside cistern and all once a week, maybe one every 2 if I forget one week.
