To ask how often you clean your loo?

Settle an argument with DH, who thinks me bleaching the toilet each day is OTT. My reasoning- it's the grossest place in the house, why wouldn't you?!

Twice a week but not with bleach. It's perfectly clean.

Bleaching daily is way ott, I'm with your dh on that. What a waste of chemicals and plastic.

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 02/12/2023 22:21

Spray /clean with antibacterial spray, once a week, and bleach bowl. Everyone knows to brush when required. I used to do them a lot more, but have reduced housework generally. The downstairs loo gets done extra times, when I know visitors are coming.

Circumferences · 02/12/2023 22:24

I've never touched a toilet, my live-in housekeeper does everything like that.

I would expect her to at least check toilets daily and scrub down to get rid of marks, but only give a bleach-up if the toilet's badly stained (once a quarter?)

My housekeeper uses lovely organic scented aromatherapy infusions rather than harmful chemicals.

sweetpickle23 · 02/12/2023 22:25

Some mixed responses!

I do feel bad about the chemicals, but nothing else makes me feel like it's clean enough.

For the people who do it once a week- do you never have any pee (or worse) splatter anywhere? I had food poisoning once and had to get up close and personal with the toilet bowl with no notice and was horrified at what I could see when I was down there. Since then I've done it daily!

I’m so confused about how people’s toilets are getting so dirty each day?

Once a week is fine.

This!!

ttcat37 · 02/12/2023 22:35

Bleached every day, we don’t use a loo brush as they’re revolting.

Agree!

If it’s visibly dirty after use it gets cleaned straightaway by the user. So it’s never unclean to look at when going into the bathroom.

Otherwise I’ll give them a wipe once a week or so for dust on top, and it gets bleached by the cleaner.

FelicityFlops · 02/12/2023 22:38

Every time it needs it. As I live alone this could be after each use or once a day or once a week.

mamatoTails · 02/12/2023 22:38

Every morning for both of them, sometimes in the evening too if we've all been home a lot.

Universalsnail · 02/12/2023 22:39

Once a week but I freshen it up whenever needed and clean up any dirty marks immediately

No! How are you splattering on a loo seat?

stayathomer · 02/12/2023 22:41

People who can’t understand how people do it more than x times- we have 6 in the family (4 boys, dh and myself) and myself and dh have stomach/bowel issues

Falalalalaa · 02/12/2023 22:42

Daily.

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/12/2023 22:42

When it needs it.

BeyondMeasure · 02/12/2023 22:43

Bacterial wipe all over every other day and domestics clean when the u bend is looking tanned.

Skids cleaned off as they occur, separately.

FreshWinterMorning · 02/12/2023 22:43

Several times a week. OR when it needs it IYSWIM! 😬

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 02/12/2023 22:45

Every ten minutes.

sweetpickle23 · 02/12/2023 22:45

@OhpoorMe Not on the seat specifically, but in the bowl/underneath the seat. DH has bowel issues unfortunately

OP posts:
GoodlifeGlow · 02/12/2023 22:45

I spend zero minutes a day examining my toilets. They get cleaned once a week unless obviously dirty and they get a quick scrub but no chemicals. Life is too short to clean a toilet every day.

BuggersMuddle · 02/12/2023 22:45

Any time it needs cleaned (as we go) & once a week do whole bathroom, mop floors etc.

Although any Mumsnet loo thread (poo splatter, someone took an unauthorised shit in my house, imagine taking a shit in a public toilet etc.) makes me think the vast majority of posters are fortunate not to have (or live with) anyone with a bowel condition!

sweetpickle23 · 02/12/2023 22:46

I will say I don't properly clean it every day, just shove some bleach down- a 10 second job. Full clean once a week

OP posts:
WhatwasthestoryinBalamory · 02/12/2023 22:46

I never bleach the loo.

Catza · 02/12/2023 22:47

Once a week. I don’t look under the toilet seat when I use it and boys put it down after they pee so that’s easy to ignore. Obviously, everyone does a quick brush job when the need is evident IYKWIM

Handovertothetedcross · 02/12/2023 22:48

Swill with the brush every day, never use bleach it's awful stuff unless someone was ill and they never are which probably says a lot about germs or the lack of if you're literally just sitting on the thing. Our poor poor planet 😔
