What would actually happen if I, British born citizen, returned from holiday on a boat to bypass immigration and claimed to be an asylum seeker, would they even know? When would I expect my 5 star hotel 🧐🧐😏

It’s a daft post I just want to cheer myself out by over thinking about stupid scenarios

No asylum seekers are in 5* hotels and your grandad needs better information

Geneve82 · 27/11/2023 16:55

please tell me that you don’t have children

Lochness1975 · 27/11/2023 16:55

Seriously?

Libertyy · 27/11/2023 16:55

Shouldn’t be too long before this thread gets deleted but meanwhile why don’t you fly to France, get yourself on a boat and risk your life coming back to the UK in winter conditions and report back to us OP? Cause you’ve made it sound so simple!!!

Shelaydownunderthetable · 27/11/2023 16:56

“Light hearted post”? 🤮

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 27/11/2023 16:56

Don't be ridiculous!!

You know these people get like £3 a day to live on right! To buy food, travel to appts etc. They're hardly in the lap of luxury.

randomstress · 27/11/2023 16:56

Are there a lot of bored students in the UK currently?
There are a lot of daft posts on Mumsnet today.

AhBiscuits · 27/11/2023 16:56

You might get a 5 star morgue after you pay thousands to a trafficker and then drown in the channel.

Yes. This.

Of course it's not true. It would be better to spend your time educating your grandad.

Libertyy · 27/11/2023 16:57

I don’t think that, my mate’s granddad did, I’m making fun of his thoughts. I made that very clear

And it ain’t my granddad he lives in Pakistan so at least read my thread properly

All the people who think asylum seeker's get put up in 5 star hotels should be sent to a Britaania Hotel and not allowed out until they have posted their repentance on social media 5 times. I doubt many would last more than 48 hours.

wutheringkites · 27/11/2023 16:58

You're right op, handing over all your money to a people trafficker who might kill you on a small boat is well worth the vanishingly small chance that you get put in a nice hotel room for a bit.

bellac11 · 27/11/2023 16:59

I always say to people who chunter on about how people live the life of luxury in prison or who have been given a free house and 5 star hotels as an 'illegal' immigrant - well do it then. Go on, put your money where your mouth is, commit a crime which has a definite custodial sentence and get banged up and see how luxurious it is, travel across from France on a boat and see what happens.

Tell you what, why not get your grandad to arrange a trip over here with the traffickers for his 5* luxury? That should satisfy your curiosity

Geneve82 · 27/11/2023 16:59

op

you need to start attending school regularly and stop missing your english classes

Glipsy · 27/11/2023 17:00

Oh mate I got it dunno why everyone else didn’t.

Maybe suggest your mates granddad try it. Worth a shot innit, two birds one stone etc

PosteriorPosterity · 27/11/2023 17:00

Haha. They’re not in 5 Star hotels in my town (and I’m sceptical they are anywhere as it would put off other potential guests wanting a 5 star experience).

But sure, risk your life and to stay in a Travelodge or run down no brand hotel in some backwater town.

Myneighboursnorlax · 27/11/2023 17:00

I got the sarcasm in your post, I’m not sure why no one else has! 🤦‍♀️

WaitingfortheTardis · 27/11/2023 17:01

I dont think this is something that can be talked about lightheartedly. Desperate people risking their own lives and often those of their families to get away from terrible things. I would suggest he stops reading The Daily Mail and starts reading or watching something for those not of the hard of thinking.

UnremarkableBeasts · 27/11/2023 17:01

rather than pondering how to get yourself put up in a fancy hotel, maybe use your brain power to think about what kind of hotels the government is likely to be using to house asylum seekers.

Saying ‘oh it’s a lighthearted thread’ fools literally no one.

No, they’re in 4 star hotels though. There are two 4 star hotels closed to the public as in use for asylum seekers close to my area (Herts), and many more reports in the news where weddings have been cancelled due to hotels being closed for this purpose.
