What would actually happen if I, British born citizen, returned from holiday on a boat to bypass immigration and claimed to be an asylum seeker, would they even know? When would I expect my 5 star hotel 🧐🧐😏

What might happen if you, a natural born Briton, actually reads up on the back stories of why a lot of immigrants take to small boats instead of listening to someone's grandad. Do you think you might actually learn something based on cold hard facts instead of half stories picked up red tops and prejudice.

MrsMarzetti · 27/11/2023 17:14

Sorry no 5 hotels here but they are housed in the local ( rather nice, with pool and sea view) 3. Meanwhile in other news some of our armed forces have the luxury of shipping containers to call home.

BranchGold · 27/11/2023 17:14

Greedy corporate hotel owners are making staff redundant and downgrading the accommodation of hotels by piling in as many bunk beds in a room as possible to house asylum seekers. They are treating the staff, community and individuals seeking refuge terribly, and getting big cheques from the government for it.

Addicted2Kale · 27/11/2023 17:14

They don't get 5 star hotels. They get 3 star hotels. Case in point, I tried to book a room at Ibis in Stevenage. Closed for asylum seekers. So he's only half wrong.

Don't be ridiculous!!

You know these people get like £3 a day to live on right! To buy food, travel to appts etc. They're hardly in the lap of luxury.

No, they get nearly £40 per week, but they get all food and board paid for on top of that.

funbags3 · 27/11/2023 17:14

Nothing light-hearted about this topic.

No, they £9 per week if they have food provided.

Don't worry OP, some of us understand what you mean!

It's a bit like people complaining about how nice the benefits lifestyle is, but you you never see them jacking in their careers and going down the job centre for their free flat screen TV and council house.

ByChanceOrChoice · 27/11/2023 17:16

You may have meant it to be lighthearted OP, but you must have known you would attract all the racist people to your thread. 🙄

Hang on has someone turned up like ‘they do put them in four star hotels actually’

this is all superb stuff

Are you saying they don't get put up in 4 star hotels or just that you just shouldn't mention that they get put up in 4 star hotels?

That’s the point I was trying to make by using myself as an example. They say things about how certain groups get such luxuries and I’m just thinking why not go on benefits/do what they do then but ironically they never do…

Im highly suspicious of what these supposed 4 star hotels are like that have signed up to government contracts to house asylum seekers

Firstly, the government wouldnt pay the rate per night that these hotels cost. Secondly, having turned paying customers away, once your government contract runs out, you've lost your customer base

So it strikes me that these hotels are places which have either gone down the pan and dont deserve the 4 stars anyway or their owners have got some serious financial issues which would cause the hotel to either close or be sold and so its an act of desparation.

Pathetic, unintelligent and boring.

It is NOT racist to point out that some asylum seekers are indeed housed in 4 star hotels.

Im not suggesting it was, but it was obvious it would attract them.

Where did he get this info from? The Daily Mail?

Read the bloody post, Jesus Christ….

Create a stupid post then berate those who reply. Who cares if the reply misread / misunderstood your op?🤷‍♀️

Geneve82 · 27/11/2023 17:20

they are housed in the BUILDINGS of 4/5 star hotels

Not actually 4/5 star hotels in terms of food and service!!

SoMuchSimpler · 27/11/2023 17:20

The hotel star system is based on the facilities available and the level of services provided.

Before asylum-seekers are housed in these hotels all the luxury facilities are removed or sealed off. The 'guests' don't receive any of the service that you'd expect from a hotel. The food served is equivalent of prison food.

So it would be more accurate to say they were staying in a building which used to be a four star hotel.

TheWizardHowl · 27/11/2023 17:21

Mate you can be Asian and still be thick as fucking mince.

I get what the thread was supposed to be, I just think it's in incredibly poor taste to joke about hopping on a small boat considering people die this way all the time.

She's not joking about that ffs. She's joking about stupit people saying they all get put in 5* hotels.

The owners don’t intend to use the space as a luxury hotel room that gets booked out for two people a night. They remove all the niceties and will be turning them into dorms with bunk beds for 6/12 to a room, the home office contract is very lucrative purely from a perspective of scale.

I think Wilma's describing themselves here.
