To not put the toaster in the cupboard?!

CeruleanSal · 24/11/2023 15:10

Obviously not a serious topic but…

I keep my toaster on the side in the kitchen. I regularly visit my brother and sister in law and they keep theirs in a low cupboard. I find this insane. Like me they use it daily (if not multiple times a day) and they’re forever getting it out and putting it back. Their kitchen is not tiny or anything, it’s probably larger than mine.
I just want to know… is this normal and am I a weirdo for having my toaster out all the time?!

YABU - I keep my toaster in a cupboard
YANBU - what is this lunacy, my toaster is out on the side!

My toaster is out on the worktop. I have always kept it out but only became a Catholic 14 years ago. It's obviously a good predictor of religious outcomes!

Coastalcreeksider · 24/11/2023 16:37

I keep mine in a cupboard. I hate clutter on the sides and I can go a week or more not using it.

I don't have a huge kitchen so I keep the countertops as clear as possible.

Oh absolutely no offense was taken, I'm aware of the whole Catholic/Protestant running joke with toasters, it's very much a trope 😆Ireland is renowned for them

Oh good. Grin

Protestants put the toaster in a cupboard, catholics keep it on the countertop.

Are you a Catholic and sil a protestant who is imposing her protestant traditions on your dB?

I am a Protestant who would love to put it in the cupboard but am in conflict with my atheist DH who wants it to live on the work surface.

MonkeyPuddle · 24/11/2023 16:40

Mine is in the cupboard, we only use it a few times a week and my kitchen is tiny, having it out would take up half of my useable worktop space. Plus I’ve hidden the Nintendo switch I’ve bought the kids for Christmas behind it 😂

Bit boring, that. 🤣🙈

Closet Protestant? If she was a good Catholic it would be a 'press' surely. Protestant also make better cakes and tarts by repute. We'd need to test them.

Abra1t · 24/11/2023 16:40

Though thinking about it, my Scottish Presbyterian in-laws kept their toaster on the worktop. Along with most of the contents of the kitchen.

We need another traybake thread.

I've bought some for the toy show.

Although maybe it's against the rules to have Protestant tray bakes for the toy show. 🤔

WonderingWanda · 24/11/2023 16:44

There's not enough room in my cupboards for it, it's bloody massive!. I quite like the look of those expensive bespoke wooden kitchens that have a sort of panel that slides down and hides all your worktop junk like the kettle and toaster but no way could I be bothered to put it in the cupboard after every use.

Marleymoo42 · 24/11/2023 16:44

My mil carries her microwave in from a garden shed so as to have a clear work top

"Closet Protestant" 😆Cupboard Protestant surely?

😂😆

The amount of times this has been said to me for keeping ours in the cupboard, I'm in Ireland but am neither

I have actually occasionally wondered where Irish Muslims/Hindus/Sikhs position themselves as regards toasters, but my sample size is too small to arrive at a rule.

usernother · 24/11/2023 16:46

I keep mine in a cupboard because I don't like clutter on worktops. It's just below where we use it so takes seconds to get out and put away.

I think the cupboard protestant is the toaster itself under the formal definition. Grin

@ColleenDonaghy your wisdom knows no bounds 😆 now back to the Toy Show... have you bought matching pyjamas?

@BeardedIrises I wonder? How would we even explain our crazy Irish notions? 😂

Sounds like a religious hate crime to me. You could have a Protestant toaster in the cupboard. He needn't know?

Matching PJs, are you wise. As if I'd let my kids watch, do you think it's for children or something? They will be fired into bed at 7pm and the wine poured. I'm already in my comfy hoody.

Scorchio84 · 24/11/2023 17:03

@ColleenDonaghy I love this! My little lad will be snoozed out by then too so the wine will be flowing here .. meanwhile on Insta the matching pyjamas & copious treats are off the scale 👀

ColleenDonaghy · 24/11/2023 17:04

I don't do insta so I'm spared Grin

I really like PK but I will miss trying to spot the ad break that Tubridy chose to indulge in something a little stronger.

What an absolutely ridiculous statement to make.

Ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️

70sDuvet · 24/11/2023 17:11

I'm from NI and in a group of friends where I'm the only Protestant in a large group of Catholics. So often referred to as the token Prod. It's an NI thing that isn't going away time soon.

When that's derry girls episode came out I was totally ripped apart on WhatsApp with jokes as mine was the only one in a cupboard.....but that's because it's 18 years old and I've dropped it quite a few times (surprisingly when it lived on the worktop) and it had to be retired to the cupboard as it looks like something from the junk yard.

I keep planning to buy a posh one but now I've acquired so many new kitchen gadgets, airfryer, coffee machine, blender etc that we do use everyday that I think the new one will still have to live the cupboard through lack of worktop space.

Utterbunkum · 24/11/2023 17:14

Didn't Patrick Swayze once say, 'nobody puts the toaster in the cupboard'? I am sure it was in a film where Swayze played a dancing kettle...

Nowherenew · 24/11/2023 17:15

Mine lives on top of the fridge.

I only have a small kitchen and it makes a massive difference and looks so much less cluttered.

My friend won’t even leave her kettle out though, her sides are always left completely bare.

Popetthetreehugger · 24/11/2023 17:16

Mines in a draw , but we only use at weekends.
