To think everyone on MN has 3+ kids

I have read so many threads on MN where people keep posting about having 3 or more kids. It feels like everyone on MN has over 3 kids and what's really baffling is that this country's fertility rates are declining. Not sure about how it all works and how people afford so many DC.

Perhaps you’ve missed the one child families board. And all the posts by people with no children or one or two. One of the most posted topics is whether or not to have a third, suggesting those people currently have two.

Devilsmommy · 18/10/2023 21:43

I'm one and done and will always be here😁

Sparklesocks · 18/10/2023 21:43

I have one!

HeyMona · 18/10/2023 21:44

Sadly there are plenty of mumsnetters on the Infertility boards so no, not everyone on here has 3 children. Many just hoping to have one.

PinkMoscatoLover · 18/10/2023 21:45

I don’t think that seems to be the case at all

mynameiscalypso · 18/10/2023 21:45

I don't think I know anyone in real life who has more than two child. Almost all my close friends are one and done.

Micsam89 · 18/10/2023 21:45

I have no kids

HermioneWeasley · 18/10/2023 21:45

I must have mislaid one in that case.

Dartmoorcheffy · 18/10/2023 21:45

I don't have any .(Not by choice), I have a dog though 😁

AfterWeights · 18/10/2023 21:46

2 here. Wanted more but like many people i had miscarriages along the way.

KookyAndSpooky · 18/10/2023 21:46

I think that people often know if they want one or two children (not always of course). It seems that deciding on a third child is a bit more tricky. It's probably partly down to the fact that a family of four is seen as standard.

This obviously leads to more people posting about deciding whether or not to have a third child.

I don't have any kids (by choice). I also have a dog.

Lookingatthesunset · 18/10/2023 21:48

Most of my friends and family member have either one or two children.

I'm one of a few of us who have 3. One cousin has 4. A neighbour has 5. There are a couple of 'threes' in our street, but mostly one or two.

I don't know whether any of them are on MN...

Meniscus · 18/10/2023 21:48

There is an entire Childfree board, and a One-Child Families board.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2023 21:49

One here

Took 10yrs ttc and many thousands and lots of ivf so grateful to have her and was almost 44 so again count my blessings

Always wondered if happened when started ttc when I was 32 would I have 2

Honestly not sure

We have a good life and can afford nice holidays as have one child

BoohooWoohoo · 18/10/2023 21:49

We had our third child well before cost of living crisis.

Almondmum · 18/10/2023 21:49

I feel like you're reading a different Mumsnet to me.

stylishnot · 18/10/2023 21:49

I have 2. I don't even know anyone personally who has more than that. My neighbour has 4 and whenever I see her I'm so glad I only have 2 Grin

toadasoda · 18/10/2023 21:51

It's funny I always note how the majority seem to have 1 child. We must be reading different threads!

ChickHenLittle · 18/10/2023 21:52

I only have 2. I go between wanting a third and not... mostly leaning towards 'not' these days!

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 21:52

Two of my own and two stepkids. They lived with us during teen years so felt like four!

Fionaville · 18/10/2023 21:54

Well considering most people on MN seem to have a household income of 200k+ and suggest anybody struggling gets a nanny and a cleaner, I suppose they can all afford multiple children 😆

Its strange, I know only 1 person with 1. Most of my friends have 3, I mean old friends not parent friends. I have 3, never decided it though as my much longed for 2nd baby was twins!! Only last night someone told me most people in her (rural) home town have 4 or 5.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2023 21:58

I have one. Couldn't have any more

Mydogmybestfriend · 18/10/2023 21:59

Planet is over populated so it's a good thing the birth rate is declining maybe then the homeless situation could be dealt with.

Why would anyone want more than 2 kids especially when most can't even afford one. Why live a life of struggle for you and your children.

And I'm the child of 4 siblings saying this.
