AIBU to be in bits over an episode of Bluey?

I have teenage kids so this show wasn't on my radar until one of the kids favourite YouTubers did an episode on it. For anyone who doesn't know it's an Aussie pre-school cartoon. I just watched 'Babyrace' which is about competative parenting. I was pretty blubbery when one of the mums told Bluey's mum, she was doing great. But the last line 'May be she saw something she wanted...' totally finished me off. I think I need to watch them all now. It's on Disney Plus in the UK.

As someone who has seen no epispde or clip - is this background tv or do i need to watch as well as listen? I'm intrigued now!

Camping, Sleepytime, Grandad, Baby race, Onesies all make me cry and I'm sure a couple of others that I've forgotten about. Literally the best kids show that's ever been made in my opinion. And it's more for the parents than the kids.

StereotypicalBarbie · 15/10/2023 23:11

I love the Camping episode. Oh my goodness I can’t watch that one without blubbing. What Bluey’s mum says to her about special people coming into your life and sometimes leaving quickly…. Oh no, I’m crying again.
And Faceycall is hilarious.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 15/10/2023 23:20

Just watched Early Baby with dd2 who was born at 29 weeks. Hadn’t seen it before but brought back memories of her being in the incubator for so long.

I love the Chest episode and how they can’t concentrate on the game as Bandit wants.

glossypeach · 15/10/2023 23:20

Not bluey but I recently watched cars and cried at the race when he gets pushed to the finish line. It makes me want to watch kids tv/movies even when my son isn’t around because they actually make me feel something

Autumnalpiefortea · 15/10/2023 23:24

Love Bluey, but never get chance to watch them all properly, I’m off tomorrow so may watch lots whilst Dd is at pre school-I’d that weird 😂
Its on CBeebies, but all the episodes are on Disney plus

Yes, why is this? Maybe because the moral element is there in trying to teach kids something but the adults would do well to heed the messages first.

lucywho123 · 15/10/2023 23:32

Haha Sleepytime really got me in my feelings. DD comes to to me when it’s on and just waits for me to cry 😂

Sleepyteach · 15/10/2023 20:27

Sleepytime always gets me, especially the end when Chilli says “I’ll always be here for you even if you can’t see me” and early baby, even though DD wasn’t a preemie it’s still emotional.

I can't watch this episode without tears. I don't even have to watch it, just hearing Holst's Jupiter and knowing my daughters are watching it is enough to make my eyes well up.

Mumoftwotoddlers · 16/10/2023 00:02

Me and DH leave the TV on the kids channel after the school run and watch Bluey, I've had tears of laughter and sadness several times. The nits episode cracks me up every time

heyitsthistle · 16/10/2023 00:05

...I'm lying in bed just thinking about Sleepytime and tears are rolling down my face.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 16/10/2023 00:34

Bloody love Bluey it's so clever. I've been known to silently sob at a few episodes and laugh hysterically at a few more.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 16/10/2023 00:35

Oh username ha. Oh Biscuits is my Dd's new phrase

Hibiscrubbed · 16/10/2023 02:14

I wondered if I’d imagined something in The Show… When the balloon pops that Bingo is using to be a pregnant belly when she’s pretending to be Chilli, Bandit reaches for Chilli’s hand as they watch. It seemed like an exquisitely subtle suggestion that before Bluey they’d lost a puppy. I was almost winded by it.

Fuck, it’s such a masterpiece of a programme.

Lazydaisydaydream · 16/10/2023 07:59

The writers confirmed that she lost a baby before Bluey and that’s what the popped balloon represents. There’s also a hint in the sleepytime episode with how many planets there are. Such a clever show!

also in the background there’s always hidden things to find - long dogs and tennis balls. Can get a bit addictive haha.

Prettydress · 16/10/2023 13:08

Thanks for all your recommendations. I will watch them all. I genuinely feel I will be a better person for watching it too. X

Sleepy time was on this morning. We were all rushing to get to work, school, breakfast club and everyone in the house hovered until it had finished. Me, my wife, 18 year old son, 15 year old daughter and the giver year old that had actually put the programme on. It's my favourite episode.

OnceUponATimeInChristmasTime · 16/10/2023 13:28

ShipshapeShore · 15/10/2023 19:54

Reminds me of the Christmas me and my sister sat and sobbed at Old Jack's Boat on CBeebies. Everyone sat round laughing at us but it was so touching!!

That episode is just something else though! It tore me up!

Juicyjuicymango · 16/10/2023 13:30

Another one here who gets set off just thinking about sleepytime.

'remember I'll always be here for you, even if you can't see me' 😭

Autumnalpiefortea · 16/10/2023 13:37

Just watched all the main ones people mentioned…sleepytime..’I have to go now’ 😢
Onesies is a sad one too, apparently the sister was voiced by Rose Byrne (sorry if that’s been mentioned already! ) I dealt with infertility for 9 years and it resonated with me,
This morning i watched Sleepytime, Grandad, Onesies, camping and the sticky hello one (it was so lovely the things chilli said to Bluey) I think I need to watch every episode as it will make me a better, more patient parent 💜
Any other special ones I should watch?

Watch and listen. Some of it is very visual with just background music. It's brilliant! You'll love it.

Banjojo · 16/10/2023 13:44

Flat Pack is another sad one, makes you realise how short life is.

Ijustdontcare · 16/10/2023 14:35

The one that always makes me tear up is Daddy Dropoff. Just for the flash forward at the end showing how Bingo and Lila are friends all the way to university, and how those small decisions when you are young can have some lasting consequences.

delilabell · 07/04/2024 19:05

I thought I'd add to here from today's new episode ,ghostbasket, and spoilers to say how gutted I am. A for sale sign?? I know the feature length episode is called the sign but I don't want them to sell!

MrsSamR · 07/04/2024 19:26

I'm off to 'Bluey's Big Play' the theatre show in a couple of weeks and I'm probably more excited about it than my kids are!
