AIBU to be in bits over an episode of Bluey?

I have teenage kids so this show wasn't on my radar until one of the kids favourite YouTubers did an episode on it. For anyone who doesn't know it's an Aussie pre-school cartoon. I just watched 'Babyrace' which is about competative parenting. I was pretty blubbery when one of the mums told Bluey's mum, she was doing great. But the last line 'May be she saw something she wanted...' totally finished me off. I think I need to watch them all now. It's on Disney Plus in the UK.

Sleepytime gets me every time.

The inlaws recently bought a motor home and shall forever be known as Grey Nomads now.

fancyfrogs · 15/10/2023 21:17

I love it. Early baby makes me cry

TheWayTheLightFalls · 15/10/2023 21:23

Dance Mode (?) is my favourite, with Bingo and her little toy Yes/No button. I always worry that one of my kids is swept along by what the others want and this one just gets me.

And Early Baby. About a day after I watched it DD was in the playground with her friend who explained to DD that she was an early baby, and that when she was born she could fit into her dad's hands, and she couldn't be with her mum because she needed to go into a special cot with lights. I went off to cry quietly to myself.

Got,into Bluey with my dgc 3.
What I noticed is the parents are such fun, especially the Dad. Sounds silly, but they are role models

Apparently Bluey is used in parenting classes as good examples.
Our whole family loves to sit down and watch Bluey - from my 69 year old DH to our 5 year old DGS 😀
We've also bought tickets for the live show in the new year!

AndrewGarfieldsLaptop · 15/10/2023 21:53

@YokoOnosBigHat thank you so much... my son has the Sleepytime book and we read the line together to our new baby 🥲

Wait for the S3 one about Chilli’s sister.

Especially if you have BEEN that sister and will never believe your eventual miracle.

This is the one that did it for me.

We are a Bluey household, all the kids are getting annoyed that clothing lines only go to 8, my oldest 12is gutted he lives bluey!

The one where at the end of the episode Chilli is sat on the dock with her dad and they're talking about when she was small and she says "that was a long time ago" and her dad says "no, it was only yesterday" and the image morphs into them sitting on the dock side by side when she was a child 🥹.

It is wrapped up in how much I miss my dad though.

I sobbed at the ending of this one. It's so touching and you realise life goes by so very quickly

I also wanted to say sorry for your loss ❤️

Lucky's dads rules!

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 15/10/2023 21:59

I knew it would be the baby race episode as soon as I saw your thread title. Show me a more perfect 10 minutes of television.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 15/10/2023 22:03

I watched the episode Onesies where their aunt visits who it seems for an unknown reasons cannot have children. Chili says “there’s something she wants but can’t have” and my dd asks what it is. Chokes me up trying to explain to her infertility as I can’t imagine how hard that must be.

Edit: My dh is a real life version of Bandit sometimes and it’s so annoying! He’s loving Bluey now we have dd2 watching it and today deciding to create his own “Shaun” 😑

Newusernameforthiss · 15/10/2023 22:06

YANBU, have you seen "Dad Baby" it's on iPlayer (not Disney+ they're too sensitive, pathetic) absolutely the funniest seven minutes of television this decade. I was actually howling with laughter. So so good.

Ilikeyourdecor · 15/10/2023 22:13

Ha, my DC has only got in to Bluey recently and I have only seen a few episodes, one of which was Babyrace! And I was, like, why am I about to cry over a pre-school cartoon! I didn't mention it to DH.

Today DH watched Sleepytime. He came into the dinning room and said "I just cried over Bluey".

Not just you 😂

Prettydress · 15/10/2023 22:13

@AndrewGarfieldsLaptop

I am so sorry for your loss. There was something truly visceral about that line.

My dd is in her 20s loves Bluey I don't actually think it's for children at all😄

Secondaryschoolstress · 15/10/2023 22:17

@AndrewGarfieldsLaptop I’m so sorry that you haven’t got your daughter with you. But what a beautiful thing to read to say goodbye.

Sleepy time is indeed a work of art and makes me try and cherish those nights of being up and down with them.

camping, grandpa and the one with rusty’s dad coming home, where he has played armies with the little adhd Jack Russell is beautiful

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 15/10/2023 22:24

My favourite bit was the Perfect episode where Bandit is always being too rough with Bluey. Chilli says what does dad say to you after being too rough expecting Bluey to say he says sorry. Bandit “don’t tell your mum”. Chilli’s glare at Bandit is brilliant.

The line from Sleepytime was read at my daughters funeral 😭

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Sugargliderwombat · 15/10/2023 22:35

I knew it'd be this episode !!! This came on the day before my babies first birthday. He had just started walking. I cried Nd then showed my other half later (who had laughed that I had cried ). He cried and I cried again 🤣🤣🤣

ZickZack · 15/10/2023 22:46

Aw man, my 3 year old loves it. And so do I! We sit together and watch it, laugh at it. I hold back the tears for some one liners (like when chilli is sitting on the deck with her dad and they're watching the kids swimming, those two lines kill me).

Rain is a beautiful episode. I adore it.

FrillyGoatFluff · 15/10/2023 22:48

DH and I love Bluey. DD, the traitor, prefers bloody Peppa Pig.

Sucks for her that she can't reach the remote when we put it on the work surface 😂

If you like rain you'll love it even more when you hear they lyrics to the music that plays in the episode. We got the album and the first time the song played with the lyrics I was caught completely off guard and cried as we drove down the motorway. 😂

EasterMummie · 15/10/2023 22:53

Its The Show that gets me. Just the quiet acknowledgement of loss while they watch the performace.

For laughs its got to be Parcel the Parcel, just the other parents all sitting on their table waiting to see how Luckys Dads rules pan out 😂

CarrotsAndCheese · 15/10/2023 23:01

Sleepy time got me blubbing this week. I had the same thought as PP - why am I crying over a cartoon - but it was so moving.

Loved Bluey for a while now but my 3 year old has only recently started getting into it. It's absolutely brilliant - funny and touching.
