To think Starmer seriously needs a better haircut

The current hair is just awful, a weird 50s throwback style. Why isn't the Labour party hiring people to style him to look (and sound) professional for leadership? It's not enough these days just to be yourself and jog along. It's serious.

Summed up perfectly. Weak and spineless.

And of course our current PM is neither of those 😂

pointythings · 12/10/2023 11:49

@Dotjones let's wait until a GE is called, shall we? Labour are doing well to keep their powder dry, given that the Tories have form for nicking their ideas and taking the credit.

It's Starmer who's desperate to win the next election. 😂

Eh? and Rishi's just not that bothered?

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/10/2023 11:52

Completely irrelevant but Angela Rayner has seriously great hair.

I wouldn't say so, no based on his performance.

^This. There are solid policies on Labour's website for all the "no policies" bleaters - this tends to be trotted out by people who aren't going to vote Labour anyway.

And is on course to do so - polls haven't shifted for a year and the Tories got no conference bounce. You would only use the word 'desperate ' about KS if you were a Tory fan and a bit... desperate. The proliferation of anti KS threads on here is evidence of said desperation.

I think she is great in a lot of ways. Just because she talks like a character out of Benidorm, snobbish people dismiss her. Just as Benidorm points out - coming from an ordinary background rather than going to Eton doesn't mean you don't have anything to say or to offer.

I'd prefer her, as someone who has actually known hard work and hardship to be in charge over some over privileged person with no connection the lives of 90% of people.

And before I am accused of inverted snobbery - I thought David Cameron for all his privileged background, did show at least a tiny bit of understanding of this - shame he was such a gutless liar over Brexit, but there you go.

Or that Labour are a shoo-in and so will attract criticism and doubt, just like an incumbent government does.

No desperation whatsoever but nice try.😂Not sure why you think anyone who criticises Starmer must be a Tory voter. It's perfectly possible to support the party's policies but think the leader's a total buffoon.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/10/2023 12:11

@RogueFemale I think he looks and sounds fine. Didn't do Johnson any harm looking like a complete and utter mess- Starmer has a classic look- a bit Don Draper yes, but I'm more interested in his brain , mindset and ability to govern and lead, not his wardrobe or hair.

MeinKraft · 12/10/2023 12:14

ThreeLeggedKitten · 12/10/2023 04:12

I think he’s quite attractive but would never co fess that in real life

I would! He's quite well built isn't he

This will happen more and more as we get nearer to election. Social media smear campaign tactics worked with Corbyn after all. But Keirs been leader for ages and they've got nothing on him, apart from his haircut is too neat. Good luck with that OP!

Freysimo · 12/10/2023 10:02

I can imagine Starmer on the world stage but definitely not Angela Rayner.

Why on earth not? Because she has an accent? Because she's a woman? Because she's from a background you don't approve of? If none of the above you're calling into question her competence, intelligence, work ethic and morals so you had better come up with some reasons to back up your position.

LlynTegid · 12/10/2023 12:21

I don't care about a politician's haircut, I care about their policies and actions. Boris Johnson had messy hair, but his ill-treatment of women, and inaction that killed 20,000 people whose deaths could have been avoided, is why I think he should be in prison for a long time.

StillWantingADog · 12/10/2023 12:26

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 02:30

I continue to maintain that the way a politician looks has an effect on their popularity, especially in this day and age. I think it's naive to pretend otherwise.

but Boris johnson looked like a complete buffoon at all times. Didn't stop him getting elected did it?

I don't think KS has 'great hair' but it's perfectly ok.

I find Rachel Reeves' hair unflattering though. She should have a softer do and ditch the harsh fringe IMO. But it won't influence how I vote!

StillWantingADog · 12/10/2023 12:29

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/10/2023 11:52

agree though it changes length quite a lot so suspect a fair bit of it is fake. Which is fine.

Bridget Philipson looks much better since she grew out her fringe.

Like Yvette Cooper's hair too.

(not that any of this matters)

The issue for me is her lack of education and the fact she came up through Union channels. Like it or not, global politicians are elites, it may not matter for a deputy leader, but I don't believe she could ever be leader of the party.

I find this view astounding. Just to take some random examples, you imagine Trump or Mugabe had the mysterious elite qualities you deem required, but she doesn't? Weird. Also why sneer about "Union Channels"?

verdantverdure · 12/10/2023 12:46

I fancy Keir Starmer a bit I won't lie.

He's a big rock solid kind of guy isn't he?

That weedy protester was sort of hanging off him.

Great forearms too.

And he put all those bad guys away.

Disciplined the Labour Party.

The Tories are like ferrets in a sack in comparison.

You just sound really ignorant tbh. We've had a series of Eton educated PM's who have all been fucking terrible. She may have her eye on the main prize but her 'lack of education' is irrelevant and she is all over her double brief of shadow deputy pm and shadow levelling- up secretary. She clearly works immensely hard and is very ambitious and should be held up as a shining example of what a woman from a poor and difficult background can achieve. And so fucking what if she has a union background? As far as I'm aware unions are generally a good thing for British workers. I'd rather someone with a union background than yet another over-privileged, vastly wealthy, completely out of touch Tory who's willing to sell the UK to the highest bidder.

This thread has been remarkably eye-opening for me. So much ignorance, prejudice, stupidity and misogyny coming out as soon as someone says 'Labour'.
