It's this kind of vacuous approach to our political representatives that honestly makes me despair. When Theresa May became PM and entered number 10, it was her shoes and outfit that much of the media focused on ffs. Populism had meant we end up with 'characters' in charge, instead of grown ups.
I get it, SKS is not the most exciting, passionate, charismatic leader of the opposition we've ever seen. Even my dad, who is die hard Labour, finds it difficult to take to him personally. But the media must take a lot of responsibility for his lack of exposure. Blair got elected partly because he was good at courting the Tory owned press to gain the centrist voting population's support.
What was plastered all over the front pages two general elections ago? Ed Milliband eating a bloody bacon roll!
On a serious note, op, I do agree that sadly style over substance seems to win people over. I despair, but I think you're right, and sadly I think that politicians need to play the 'game' correctly to be seen to be 'winners' (although fuck knows what happened where BJ was concerned, the scruffy bag of excrement tied in the middle). But I don't think there's anything wrong with how SKS looks, it's his lack of exposure that needs fixing.
