To think Starmer seriously needs a better haircut

The current hair is just awful, a weird 50s throwback style. Why isn't the Labour party hiring people to style him to look (and sound) professional for leadership? It's not enough these days just to be yourself and jog along. It's serious.

Taking the piss out of elected officials is fine IMO (Cameron, Thatcher, Major etc), saying somebody isn't electable because you don't like their haircut is ridiculous.

Quite dishy

Oh my LORD I would definitely have fancied him then!

Taking the piss out of elected officials because of their looks is ok? But not for Labour figures?

TogetherWeLearn · 12/10/2023 14:20

Yes he needs to get rid of the Bryl cream. He is a sensible and intelligent politician but a lot of UK voters will not actually listen to him for more than a moment (or other politicians fur that matter.) Ed Miliband is a similar sensible and intelligent politician and the media made a mockery of him through the bacon sandwich picture. It’s a sad state of affairs but Starmer needs to visually appeal to people to win some voters over.

I agree. But to be fair, there's no obligation to vote rationally.

The Tories conspiracy theory crank fest of a conference rather indicates they hope people don't vote rationally.

You can tell they aim to appeal to the irrational with such nonsense about the council controlling when you can go to the shops etc.

We just have to hope enough people look around what's left of our country after 13 years of Tory asset stripping and decide it's time to bring some competent grown ups in to fix everything that the Tories have broken.

I’m loving the earnest Labour fans’ cries of “I never look at a politician, I judge on merit”. Yeah, right.

Major got ridiculed by the left for his appearance and manner; Thatcher was hated by the Labour middle class for being the upstart daughter of a grocer with an affected voice; Cameron was talked of as a fat-faced old Etonian ; ditto Johnson; even May got the left’s spite for her looks.

I expect Starmer to go the way of Major. Decent man, but will be buried and vilified because of his - lack of - personality.

Don't judge others by your own standards.

My mum thinks Keir Starmer a very smart young man and has no objection to his hair styling choices.

She previously adored "Boris" and voted for the economic own goal that is Brexit so this is quite a big swing for her.

think he’s quite dishy in this actually.
What I find inexplicable are the derogatory comments about Angela Rayner when we’re always being told that the tories are more in tune with the northern working class. Funny how they’re unable to hide their true colours…

Ooh hello! Grin

You mean he’s not a decent man?

Circularargument · 12/10/2023 14:36

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 02:47

How else do you explain the polling saying people are ambivalent about Starmer?

People are fucking idiots. But also it's easier to say you don't like an image than to admit you don't give a shit about people less well off than you.

MistyMooPup · 12/10/2023 14:37

What? His hair is fine, he's actually a decent looking bloke!

Seriously is that all you have to say? I mean Johnson was PM once.

Redpaisley · 12/10/2023 14:39

RogueFemale · 12/10/2023 02:15

This isn't a discussion of Labour policies, but about looking the part to get elected. Starmer needs a better haircut to be taken seriously by voters across the board. Polling says people are doubtful about him, and part of it is because of how he looks.

You mean he should get Johnson hair cut to increase his chances?

Sure.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/10/2023 14:50

He isn't 62 by the way- he's just 61- as am I - and he's looking a damn sight more in better nick than most 61 year old males out there - I think people think he is considerably younger than he actually is

Because absolutely no -one ever took the piss out of Michael Foot. Never ever. Look. we get it, you're desperate. But painting your party as poor widdle victims doesn't wash.

So you're calling me a liar? Nice. Tory.

Unfortunately for you it's still true. Liberal, lib dem and/or Green FYI. Labour aren't the only other ones in the game y'know
Awaiting your apology.

Thisisnotlikehim · 12/10/2023 14:55

OP. No. Not ok. If it was a woman and a thread was started about her hair there would be uproar. Get a grip. We have much bigger problems than what our PM looks like.

No I wasn’t. But I’ll rephrase for you:

The authentic voice of the left.

Better?

bombastix · 12/10/2023 14:59

Johnson looked like he cut his hair in the dark and slept in his clothes. He was also fat.

If you judge by appearance then Starmer does not look like a combo of the honey monster and pricked sausage.

Houseplanter · 12/10/2023 14:59

All those saying his hairstyle doesn't matter but berating Boris for his 🧐
