Enjoyed watching the documentary, he was different than I expected him to be, not sure how really, but I have more respect for Victoria now as I think their lives have been about what he wanted/needed mainly
There are rumours of lots of affairs, is this true though as I find that hard to believe, he seemed so obsessed with her

@Pumpkinoutfitsgalore I've just always found Victoria snobby, she gives me pompous vibes. People know her because of her husband, it wasn't for him she wouldn't have handbag lines for thousands of pounds.

That seems very unfair to me. The Spice girls were much bigger than David Beckham when they got together. Victoria made as much money as him in her own right. As a couple, they are more famous than either of them would have been individually. And I actually don’t think Victoria comes across as at all stuck up.

JustAMinutePleass · 12/10/2023 16:03

True. Beckham became huge after he married Victoria (the media interest / ad campaigns gave him Real). Victoria was already famous but she became more interesting (in the US) because of all the European media surrounding Becks. Their invidual successes fed each other.

happinessischocolate · 13/10/2023 17:06

*@SusieLawson

David was good at Man Utd, but then ignored his Man Utd manager when asked to concentrate on football, than going along with his wife using him to try to be like Kar'shians.

Then he went to Spain where he was only there for the celeb image to sell shirts to kids, but was on the bench most of the time.*

🤦‍♀️ how was Victoria trying to make David like the Kardashians?

David went to Spain in 2003 - the Kardashian's show didn't start still 2007 😂😂😂

GodDammitCecil · 13/10/2023 19:13

Don’t forget @happinessischocolate - it’s Victoria’s fault.

Whatever dumb thing David may have done - including having an affair(/s) - it’s always Victoria’s fault!

Even making this documentary (called Beckham, about David Beckham) and alluding to the affair with RL is Victoria racking it up and being out of line, according to a pp.

Pumpkinoutfitsgalore · 13/10/2023 19:57

I really like Victoria and think it’s a real shame people have always lorded over DB and she’s had the rough deal. She’s never said anything, carried the family and been v dignified, she actually is a classy person

Surely no one can think of them as anything but a hugely dysfunctional family. He has clearly has numerous affairs and she has put up with it - red flag right there. Then the kids are paraded around like everything is fine - another huge red flag. And then none of the grown children - despite the best of education - has ended up in any meaningful employment. I would be ashamed if this was my kids.
No money in the world would make me envious of this life. No achievement whatsoever or meaning

Pumpkinoutfitsgalore · 13/10/2023 20:36

I actually watched some interviews on YouTube with Brooklyn and was surprised as he comes across as a really decent guy

😂😂 this thread just gets better and better

Cruz is 18, Romeo is 21 and Brooklyn is 24

And you're complaining none of these "adults" have meaningful employment

How many young adults of their age do you know with "meaningful" employment 😂😂

Fraudornot · 13/10/2023 21:27

@happinessischocolate so what do these fully formed adults do of a morning when they get up 🙄

Fraudornot · 13/10/2023 21:29

Every 18-24 year old I know is either furthering their education, working or both. To have nothing going on for three adult children is failure in my book.

Loads of young people
have meaningful employment at those ages or at least are working towards it. I see no evidence that these young people are doing so. Me and my friend were doing volunteer work when we were 16.

Living in Cheshire there are a lot of rumours that have flown around about David and all his affairs, one being with Sienna Miller years ago.
Makes your wonder how much these woman who have had a child from him have been paid?! I'd say I feel sorry for Victoria but she's just a mug.

Perhaps they are like Will and Jada Smith who play happy families but have been separated for years.

I'm not sure standard jobs and education is particularly "meaningful"

One minute the Beckham kids are criticised for trying to be footballers, and photographers, and models and chefs and then next minute apparently they're doing nothing meaningful 🤷‍♀️

I'm sure they've got plenty going on without feeling they have to take a job in the local cafe... oh wait Brooklyn did apparently

Tambatamba · 14/10/2023 01:27

People judge the children based upon the fact that they've all had the best education that money could buy and parents to open all the doors but none of them seem to be very talented.

Whether this is a fair assumption, who knows? Didn't John McEnroe once criticise his own children for having what he called 'affluenza'?

Hellenabe · 14/10/2023 05:06

VB knows which side her bread is buttered, and they are stronger as a brand than apart. Her every move is noted so cant imagine her having affairs. They just like being famous and rich. Re: her kids. I'd be embarrassed too if I didn't do anything with my life at that age but they are rich so they don't have to!

David makes me cringe. Queuegate was such a set up to get him a knighthood.

It is a perception we have of a lot of slebs kids, isn’t it? That they do a bit of “modelling” or “influencing” and that’s it. Very few of them (I don’t know of any) become teachers or doctors etc, despite receiving the best education.

I remember reading an interview with Peter from The Dragon’s Den who said that in his will he has stipulated that most of his fortune will go to charity and a limited set amount is going to each of his children. He said that those of his kids who end up in caring occupations (nurses or social workers etc) will receive more money.

I suppose it is about values and if your values are about climbing as high up the social ladder as you can that is likely to rub off on your children. Nothing wrong with that at all. Some of us just have different values and find it difficult to look up to or admire people like that.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 14/10/2023 09:18

Sending your child to a good school does not automatically make them able to become teachers or doctors. Both Victoria and David have admitted to not being very bright, so I imagine none of their children will become a brain surgeon either.

I always feel so sorry for Victoria. She looks so sad to me.

There are many occupations apart from being teachers and doctors that are also meaningful. If people are influencers for example why not use that influence to help others less privileged? This may highlight the fact that some slebs, who engage with charitable works, do so for social advancement or because it is the done thing amongst those wealthy social circles, a sign of your status rather than arising from a genuine desire to make a difference - perhaps that is what we are seeing reflected in their offspring.

i don’t know if what I just stated is definitively true by the way. I am just exploring and speculating.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 14/10/2023 09:38

@Ramalangadingdong I only used those examples because you said teachers and doctors in your comment above mine. I agree with what your saying.

PrimaniTu · 14/10/2023 09:40

I haven't watched the programme but I imagine he doesn't talk about his lucrative Qatar deal.

I wonder if he regrets taking the money after they came out and said they supported Hamas. Surely that won't do his knighthood campaign any good.

@stealthninjamum how many Rolls Royces have you ever seen in person?? It's not a working class car. Where I live you hardly notice them. I've seen less than 5 IRL and I'm a grown adult.

My next door neighbours have an old Rolls. They are definitely working class and proud of it She was a dinner lady, he was a builder. They made money from his building business. They might have some cash (not a huge amount of else they wouldn't be living in our very average/lower than average northern town). They holiday in Benidorm, they go to the club every Saturday (old school working men's club). The Rolls hasn't magically made them middle class!

Gowlett · 14/10/2023 09:53

In commercial terms, with the strength of their brand, there is no way they would have been as successful individually.

When England went to Baden Baden, for example, there was huge media focus on Victoria & the WAGs. As much as the football.

Victoria is extremely media savvy, and certainly lent that to David in the early days. Simon Fuller has been just as instrumental as Alex Ferguson, IMO. And they broke America.

Gowlett · 14/10/2023 09:56

Wasn’t the skiing holiday straight after the Loos affair? That was a masterful media move by Victoria. She knows the game!

Talent is inherent. No amount of education can create it. Same as intelligence.

IMy DH played a sport at national level. He always said he often won against far better players and talented players and it was not because of his own talent but because he put in the hours and hours of practice and hard work every week.
