This gave me a little bubble of joy this morning and I want to share it. Here are all the details.

Voting on the fattest bear starts today at this link. I can't wait for the children to get home so we can vote.

I've attached a picture of '747'. Bless his little grumpy face on his BIG bear body.

oh you've beaten me to it!!!

I saw this on the beeb this morning. Just the most loveliest thing isn't it? I've shared the link to everyone in the office already and have checked out the contenders for this years award!

Just love love love 💗

wednamenov · 05/10/2023 09:46

It's so lovely. Grazer can move in with me provided he promises not to snack on the cats. But I think I might be rooting for Holly.

Have to say Chunk is pretty awesome but my vote is for the unnamed female; no 402 - "During years when she is not caring for cubs, she is also quite fat in late summer and fall." rather like myself tbh! hahaha😂

ColdEvenings · 05/10/2023 09:55

In 2022, the sisters 909 and 910 integrated their families. They traveled, fished, rested, and played together. In late spring 2023, however, 909 separated from her 2.5-year-old cub. This normally begins a journey of independence for young bears. But 909 Junior found a new path. She was adopted by her aunt, 910, who was still caring for her biological yearling cub.
Awwwwww!!! 909 doesn't want to leave home!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/10/2023 09:57

This is the sort of thread I love, and don't see often enough. Many thanks, I will have a good look over this later!

wednamenov · 05/10/2023 09:58

909 is probably saving hard for a mortgage.

You have made me smile when there's not much to smile about atm.
Thank you.
I'm rooting for 435, what a plucky Foster mum 💜

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/10/2023 10:02

oh I LOVE this!

LunaNorth · 05/10/2023 10:05

Team Grazer all the way here. She sounds like a total badass 🐻

wednamenov · 05/10/2023 10:09

806 Jr. looks like he should be tucked up next to my son in bed at night. Very snuggable.

Things to keep an eye on today (licks pencil)

  1. Announcement for the Nobel Prize for Literature. 1pm.
  2. Tories. All the fucking time.
  3. Fat bear week votes. Finishes on the 10th so nicely eclipses Tories. GrinLovely, thanks OP, got a nicely balanced agenda for the day now!
WhiskersPete · 05/10/2023 10:52

Grazer FTW!

This is the kind of news I want to see!

Thanks for bringing the Nobel Prize announcement to my attention. And yes, lovely that we can think about fat bears instead of the Tories.

@wednamenov I got the time wrong for the Nobel, it's 12 here, 1.00 Switzerland. Hoping for Rushdie to win. Or (sorry this s a bit obscure and waaay off-piste re bears) László Krasznahorkai.
Rushdie would be a great name for a fat bear wouldn't it? As would László.
I could come back here when the Nobel news comes through to announce it, but I fear it will muddy the bear waters if I derail this thread too much towards Nobel-ing. Life is so complicated! 😆
Back to bears!

wednamenov · 05/10/2023 11:06

@heldinadream - I think there's another thread somewhere where all fat bears are discussing the merits of all contenders for the Lit Prize. In between feasting, of course.

I'm team Holly this year. She is definitely "living her best life" Grin

Normalsizedsalad · 05/10/2023 11:12

National Park Service is absolutely worth a follow on twitter or insta. They are hilarious

747? Is his nickname Jumbo?

I'm not 100% sure that isn't a greedy chocolate Labrador who's just Ben told he's going on a diet though.

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 05/10/2023 11:20

Grazer for the win! I mean have you read her bio in the link? That lady does not take any shit from anyone! I aspire to Grazer's heights. But I do have a soft spot for Otis, I hate thinking this might be his last year, he should be crowned Fat Bear Grandaddy 🐻!

loislovesstewie · 05/10/2023 11:21

Grumpy 747 looks like he was out on the lash last night and has woken up too early. I might vote for him on those grounds.

Do you mean living her bear-st life?
Sorry, I'll shuffle awkwardly away and promise not to do it again.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/10/2023 11:30

I love this! I'm going to think long and hard before voting. These bears all winners in my eyes!

If there isn't, I should start it. I fear I may be alone in the mid-section of the Venn diagram that covers fat bears and the Nobel Prize, though.

BookWorm45 · 05/10/2023 11:51

I love the Venn diagram @wednamenov , can I come to join you in that overlapping intersection ? Fat Bear Nobel week seems ideal

Sinamin · 05/10/2023 12:11

Best description ever!!

435 Holly is a large adult female with blond ears and pale, tan-colored claws. By early autumn, she is usually very fat with grizzled blond fur. Her appearance somewhat resembles the shape and color of a lightly toasted marshmallow.
