To intensely dislike Rishi Sunak?

He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

I linked the telegraph - and to be fair the other papers will publish soon enough. So just be patient.

sunnyseed · 01/10/2023 08:57

Watch this space. They will start pulling all the usual vote winning tactics out of the bag closer and closer to the election but it’s all too late. I wouldn’t be surprised if Boris makes a sudden reappearance as they desperately try to regain votes. People are living the consequences of their poor decision making and inaction over the cost of living crisis. Labour will win a landslide this time. The Tories have handed it to them on a plate.

bombastix · 01/10/2023 08:57

@Lastchancechica / are you quite young? I mean I have never seen a party of any kind in UK politics recover from this kind of scenario. Intensely divided, the Times has the runners and riders for the next leader in it this morning and the polls haven't shifted substantially in a year.

Politico does an average of all the polls btw. You know that.

SmokedCheese · 01/10/2023 08:58

I had hoped he would sort out the nhs, schools, social care, environment but Rishi couldn’t a toss. He’s just a grabby rich little man furthering his own interests.

Trying again with that latest poll!

Polls vary.

Politico is an EU mouthpiece, and can not be trusted. They have no place in meddling in U.K. politics.

You are grossly underestimating two things:

The level of aversion to Keir Starmer

The silent majority of conservative voters that do not advertise their opinions.

Labour will lose their poll lead, this is far tighter than it looks.

pointythings · 01/10/2023 09:01

The strength of things like Electoral Calculus, who were right on 7 out of 8 of the last elections, is that they look at a monthly aggregate of polls, not just one single poll. Take comfort from your outlier polls if you wish. There will be more. But so far it really is just wishful thinking. Polls will tighten as we get closer to a GE - but if the Tories' current form is anything to go on, they don't have anything to pull out of the bag.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 08:34

I have already linked and you can read most of the article.

It’s The Telegraph. It’d be predicting a Tory win if they were 90% behind in the polls. What’s really interesting is how many articles it’s run lately by the Labour front bench. It can read the runes behind the gung-ho bluster.

Here’s a screenshot of those polls from Politico.

To intensely dislike Rishi Sunak?
Alexandra2001 · 01/10/2023 09:02

I didn't think i could dislike another politician like i did Johnson but Sunak is even worse, worse than Truss, who i did feel a little sorry for as she is clearly a "well meaning" idiot.

Sunak just isn't interested in the UK, just himself and his family, he'll be off to the USA after the next GE.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 09:04

I am quietly confident you don’t have to agree. People are not stupid.

itsgettingweird · 01/10/2023 09:04

This is an interesting analysis

You despise him because he is doing better than you imagined.

No they’re not, the Tories are toast. You’re far from quietly confident, you shout from morning to night.

Yes. "Doth protest too much" springs to mind Grin

Kettle and pot springs to mind blossom 🤷🏼‍♀️

itsgettingweird · 01/10/2023 09:06

That was in response to blossom

bombastix · 01/10/2023 09:06

@Lastchancechica / I think you grossly underestimate the degree to which a lot of Tories are repulsed.

My own very tweedy, flowering arranging voluntary service low tax family don't want to vote for Sunak. Whatever the Conservative Party is now, and it appears to be ripping away at our achievements, they don't want it. These are people who have voted Conservative forever.

Could you describe who the Conservatives are for? At the moment, I would describe them as incoherent but mostly in thrall to second generation right wingery. That is not a majority.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 09:04

On what measure is he doing better?

NHS, Environment, Education... Transport? even pot holes.... you have to be particularly incompetent if you cannot even maintain roads... but of course the problem he faces is that even Tory voters say "ok fix the roads but who let them get into this state?"

ilovesooty · 01/10/2023 09:08

I have no need to lower this to personality politics and say personally insulting things about Sunak

His parliamentary behaviour and the path he's taken to further his political ambitions are on public record and show him clearly to be a man without principles or personal conviction who will dance to anyone's tune in order to attain power. He's anything but decent.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 09:08

Yesterday we had exactly this conversation, and blossom screamed we must listen to the polls.
Today the polls show they are narrowing at a very fast rate and now suddenly they are unreliable 🤷🏼‍♀️

bombastix · 01/10/2023 09:09

@Lastchancechica - who are the Conservatives for?

Tweedy???

I think you have mixed up the decade you are in dear.
Always problematic when you haven’t stepped foot in England for so many years.
