He has no backbone, no coherent policies (u-turns a dozen times a day)and no understanding of ordinary people's lives. Plus he wears all his clothes a size too small, which really irritates me.

Every policy is designed to divide and weaken the country, never to unite us and help us grow.

And people on here seem to know every policy in detail and what was discussed in parliament. I am pleased with the Windsor framework and the signing up to Horizon Europe research funding.

I think the Tories will win too. Heartbreaking though that is.

The conservatives will win is my guess

Edited

If they do, God help us. But I live in a staunchly Conservative constituency, £23k+ majority last time, and I'm hearing a lot of people say they will be votingLabour this time that I would never have expected to. So I think you may be disappointed.

Our previous MP was great, had a lot of time for him and did actually vote for him. But he was forced out by Johnson and the new one doesn't impress at all, proper brown noser.

Why do you think they will win?

whatkatydid2013 · 01/10/2023 08:04

Honestly and truly I think the Conservatives are much better at saying what people want to hear and people seem to keep believing them regardless of how often they are misleading (or caught outright lying). Many have faith they are the party that are a safe pair of hands for the economy (all recent evidence to the contrary) and somehow people are also so able to overlook the degree of corruption under their watch in past few years.

I don’t know if any party can make a popular policy that would fix all the issues we have at the moment. It’s gravely disappointing though that we are not unlikely to end up with another 5 years of the current government. I’ve no doubt if they are re-elected then the level of cronyism and corruption will only increase and we will likely see introduction of more charges in healthcare similar to those in dentistry (where it clearly hasn’t gone well for the average person), continued underfunding in schools/public transport etc and continuing focus on taxing earners but relieving tax on wealth.

If a party came along tomorrow that had a well documented & costed plan to go to a higher tax/better public services model I’d vote to pay a bit more tax and to lose inheriting whatever tax would be levied on the estates of our parents. They wouldn’t win though because even if most people would be just as well off or better off under such a policy they can’t seem to let go of the fact they’d lose something or that it would also help other people that they disapprove of.

neverbeenskiing · 01/10/2023 08:05

I don't really understand why some people get so deeply invested with politics to be honest where it gets to a point it obviously upsets you

I don't really understand how some people have the capacity to shut their eyes, put their fingers in their ears and ignore the very real impact of Tory policy on the poorest and most vulnerable in society, even if they're not directly affected themselves.

Crapsummer2023 · 01/10/2023 08:08

Windsor Framework and Horizon were fixes to shit his party had fucked up due to Brexit, which he is massive supporter of. If we had no Brexit, these corrections would never have been required and they still aren’t as good as the pre-Brexit situation.

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2023 08:12

@Lastchancechica it’s behind a paywall but you need to get other sources other than the Brexit, Tory supporting Telegraph. They also supported Johnson, through all his lies.

sep135 · 01/10/2023 08:18

Winning is a poisoned chalice.

We have major structural issues with our debt levels, productivity and ratio of the net contributors to financial dependents. No party can wave a magic wand and fix it. They might tinker around the edges but much of it will be presentational for political purposes.

As odious as he is, I think Dominic Cummings probably had a better grasp of the situation than many politicians on both sides of the spectrum.

Not that I think it's therefore futile to try but I think disillusionment will set in towards the end of Labour's first spell in office when the brave new world isn't delivered. I see most politicians as equally bad as each other (Alastair Campbell did some awful things).

itsgettingweird · 01/10/2023 08:28

Labour are still predicted to win by a greater majority than Cons won in 2019. Hardly something to worry about for Labour.

And sunak has gone up due to his "on the side of motorists" campaign.

He may have put all his eggs in one basket too soon.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 08:29

Reading the latest articles. It appears people are very ‘wobbly’ about supporting Starmer and trusting labour.

Which articles? What are your sources?

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 08:34

I have already linked and you can read most of the article.

Crapsummer2023 · 01/10/2023 08:34

From the article posted above by the Chairman of Iceland supermarket:

‘I struggle to name a single thing they are actually conserving. Certainly not the business sector or our economy, the vitality of our high streets or the safety of my retail colleagues, our farming and rural communities, our rivers and seas, our net zero obligations, our NHS, our schools, our reputation for decency and fairness, or the future prosperity of our kids and grandkids.’

So you think you can link to two articles from the Torygraph and draw a conclusion from that?

Oh dear.

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 08:46

It basically says Starmer will lose Labour the election. People can’t bear to listen to him, he has no vision or policies and is not authentic. Everything that has been discussed on here in actual fact.

bombastix · 01/10/2023 08:47

The better thing to do is look at Politico, Electoral Calculus or even old John Curtice (who does this for each election accurately) and of these sources indicate the Conservatives are in huge trouble.

They don't know what they are for anymore; this stupid psychodrama of Brexit and all the policies to go with it are not delivered.

Tbh it's all about the next leader. The shaved mouse is finished.

Politico is sponsored by EU now let me think why they would want a Labour government……

Lastchancechica · 01/10/2023 08:50

Shaved mouse? ??

bombastix · 01/10/2023 08:52

Didn't you know that's one of his nicknames, from within his own party?

That was July. We’ve had two months worth of more fuck ups to make a Tory win even less likely since then.

@Lastchancechica you’ve linked to an Opinion piece which is from July.

An option piece is not “actual fact”.
