Anyone up who knows what this could be? DS in pain.

DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Severe stomach pain in boys can also be linked to the testicles - my ds has terrible stomach pain which was because one of his testicles had twisted

CelestialSausage · 23/09/2023 07:52

A and E now to be safe.

Probably because she’s previously read dozens and dozens of posts on Mumsnet from fools insisting that only cardiac arrest and compound fractures are actually worthy of A&E.

Absolutely this, A&E is for lots of things and a lot of people who are genuinely in need are put off unnecessarily.

I hope your DS is being seen now OP.

londonrach · 23/09/2023 08:00

A&e. Hope he feels better soon

oatmilk4breakfast · 23/09/2023 08:04

Morning - this sounds like an experience with my son who’s 8. Vital to get him checked out. Don’t want to worry you but symptoms same and he vomited green bile all through the night. Viral infection. We found that out because we had to take him to A&E poor thing.

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2023 08:10

This is definitely an A&E situation. Hope he's getting on OK.

Mumdiva99 · 23/09/2023 08:13

I hope your son is better soon.

My son had similar and from phoning my doctors for an appointment they got us an emergency appointment at the Urgent care - which was 15 minutes later. They sent us straight to the children's ward and they kept us in overnight. No reason was given in the end. But my son was crying in pain....and is never normally like that.

Just want to give you a positive outcome. (Was it trapped wind.....no idea. But he hasn't suffered since and has had a ct to rule out any nasties inside.)

daydreaming3 · 23/09/2023 08:15

We are in a&e now. He's been sick a couple more times but it's just bile, so it could just be a sickness bug. But he's still complaining of extreme stomach pain

DisquietintheRanks · 23/09/2023 08:20

Good call OP. Hope it does turn out to be nothing more than a tummy bug but you do need a doctor to check it's nothing more serious.

rainbowstardrops · 23/09/2023 08:34

Oh your poor little one, I hope he's feeling better soon!
What else did he eat at the restaurant yesterday? Did anyone else have the same?

daydreaming3 · 23/09/2023 08:38

@rainbowstardrops he had chicken nuggets chips and beans, then had a pancake thing for pudding. DH finished some of his chicken nuggets and he's fine today. He's been sick a couple times but I'm more worried about the pain, he just tried to walk to where the toys are in the waiting area and then turned round and came straight back crying as he said it hurt too much to walk

rainbowstardrops · 23/09/2023 08:44

Oh the poor love. It doesn't sound like the restaurant food would be the cause then but he could have picked a bug up from anywhere I suppose. Or like others have said, it might be appendicitis. At least he's in the right place to be helped now.

Megifer · 23/09/2023 08:47

Awww poor guy. I've been on the verge of taking DS to a&e with identical pains, clamminess, sick etc. He suddenly snapped out of it after about 3 hours just as I started getting him out of bed to get his pj's on - it was wind 😳

You've done the right thing taking him, hopefully it is just a case of very bad wind like my DS case!

WeirdBarbie · 23/09/2023 09:09

This sounds exactly like appendicitis. I couldn’t walk from the pain (which also felt a lot like really bad trapped wind). Glad you’re in A&E, good luck OP.

everythingthelighttouches · 23/09/2023 09:12

Ah poor little man. It says something when even getting to the toys is too painful!

Glad you got to A&E, hope all goes well.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 23/09/2023 09:17

Poor thing, has he had some pain relief?

hope the wait isn’t too long 💐

daydreaming3 · 23/09/2023 09:19

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow he's had calpol and ibuprofen and neither seem to be making a difference. He's sick whenever I make him stand up now but I'm not convinced it's a sickness bug because of the pain

Just to add, when I was pregnant with my daughter I had appendicitis and it always flared up after chicken nuggets (I still can't face them now). When it came to a head I started vomiting bile. Labour ward said it was gastroenteritis. I went back the next day to see a colleague on the surgical assessment unit with concerns it was appendicitis and I was right. I had it whipped out and was so much better. Please keep us updated x

puppywanted · 23/09/2023 09:23

My appendicitis started above my belly button then moved down to very low on the right.

I was hunched over when standing and when lying down it was sore to straighten my legs.

It really does sound like appendicitis OP so maybe try and prepare yourself for that just in case.

Best of luck! Poor wee lamb.

jeaux90 · 23/09/2023 09:24

My appendicitis started exactly like this OP. Hope your DS is seen quickly and is better soon.

puppywanted · 23/09/2023 09:25

It’s quite scary that appendix are just in there waiting to cause all of this pain!!

Thinking of a little boy going through that agony is awful :(

GoldenKiwi · 23/09/2023 09:34

They got my DD on a drip and did a blood test, the blood showed inflammation and that was enough for them to diagnose appendicitis. No scans or anything. Moved her up to the children's ward and she had the operation that evening!

daydreaming3 · 23/09/2023 09:53

He can't even sit up now with the pain. He only wants to lie in the foetal position as that's the only time it's not too sore. I've asked the nurses to let the drs know but they said it will still be a long wait yet as they are so short on drs today

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/09/2023 09:58

At least you will be seen eventually, poor boy 😢

Has a doctor seen him? If not I would go and insist one takes a look at him sooner rather than later (and I'm really not someone who says that lightly).
