Anyone up who knows what this could be? DS in pain.

DS (4) was fine all day yesterday. We went out for dinner last night and he ate all of his (including beans which may be relevant). We then had our weekly family movie night, DS had some squash and a tiny bit of chocolate whilst watching the movie. Normally on movie night we let the DC stay up later than normal so they usually sleep in aswell.

He's now woken up at 4 this morning crying saying his stomach hurts. I instantly thought its because he ate so much last night so encouraged him to go to the toilet which he did. He did a poop but said his stomach was still hurting.

He's now white as a ghost, feels really cold and clammy to the touch and is saying his tummy hurts so much he can't stand up. I've got him to walk a little bit which he has but he's bent over whilst doing it bless him.

I don't want to take him anywhere yet incase it is just wind from the beans Blush but I would have thought going to the toilet would have helped ease that a bit which it hasn't. Anyone had this with their little ones?

Calling 111 can help you jump queue at a+e so I'd usually call them first imo (unless it's clearly a 999 issue then call them first)

Sorry, but I really don’t think this is true.

I think it’s the opposite because you will just sit around for hours waiting for them to call back and they will send you in anyway.

Patients are seen based on triage of severity in A&E. Even coming by ambulance doesn’t bump you up the queue. (Although that said you’d be lucky to get an ambulance for stroke these days).

DS had appendicitis 2 years ago. Symptoms started like this, we waited for the GP to open on the advice of 111 who sent us straight to a and e, 12 hours later he was minus an appendix

He was older so could describe the pain better, but it started by his belly button!

Peekingovertheparapet · 23/09/2023 06:51

Just take him

Escapingtherealityoflife · 23/09/2023 06:52

Mesenteric adenitis can present like appendicitis but it needs a doctor to distinguish between the two.

Crabacus · 23/09/2023 06:52

I wouldn't wait with those symptoms, I'd go straight there myself. It could not be appendicitis - which would be great! But also it could be, in which case the sooner the better.

Ostryga · 23/09/2023 06:53

Just go straight to A&E now don’t faff about waiting for a phone call.

Pack enough stuff for today and head off. Your husband can bring anything you forget later. Go now.

SilentAndQuietLight · 23/09/2023 06:55

Just go in. This is a perfectly reasonable reason to take a child to A&E, you don't need permission and 111 do not jump the queue for you.

Retsina24 · 23/09/2023 06:56

I think I'd just go straight to a and e as some pp have said, especially as the symptoms aren't easing and he's sleepy etc. Hope you get seen quickly

Forgot to add he doesn't have a temperature, just feels cold and clammy to the touch. I'm worried if I take him in anywhere and it's just trapped wind they will think we've wasted their time

I'm a Dr. They wouldnt think you're wasting their time at all. Get him seen. Early appendicitis starts central and moves to right lower abdo over time

NonMiDispiace · 23/09/2023 06:58

A&E now, it definitely sounds like appendicitis and he’s clearly very unwell.

Randomness12 · 23/09/2023 06:58

What are you waiting for, please just go. He sounds like he needs to be seen now. 111 will send you anyway because of his age.

Not true. We wouldn't even know if someone had spoke to 111 unless a patient starts the convo with "I spoke to 111..."

Pythonesque · 23/09/2023 07:06

Agree with all above - this could be appendicitis and they'll be happy to see and monitor him until someone is in a position* to confidently say "no this is not appendicitis". One of mine was kept in overnight as a teenager with less severe symptoms than you are describing. No need to feel guilty.

If it's decided that it is appendicitis then surgery will be planned. A determination of "not appendicitis" might require symptoms resolving over a few more hours, or blood tests and an ultrasound, or something else. It's perfectly possible for that to take all day, or 2 or 3 days, depending on what happens with your little one, and hospital is an appropriate place for him to be while it's all worked out.

Hope he's better soon, whatever transpires.

Museya15 · 23/09/2023 07:13

I work in a and e and I'd advise to go there.

Fallingthroughclouds · 23/09/2023 07:16

I'm amazed your first thought was to ask strangers on mumsnet with no medical training. If anything else happens I'd suggest you seek help from professionals rather than waste time. Hope he recovers quickly.

splothersdog · 23/09/2023 07:20

With those symptoms they will ask you to bring him in for an examination. I would just go

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/09/2023 07:21

I hope you are in your way to a&e already. Your ds definitely needs to be seen.

GoldenKiwi · 23/09/2023 07:22

It does sound like appendicitis - my dd started like that and then the pain moved to the right.

I hope he is feeling better soon!

MidnightOnceMore · 23/09/2023 07:25

If he's visibly worsening just go to A&E.

Probably because she’s previously read dozens and dozens of posts on Mumsnet from fools insisting that only cardiac arrest and compound fractures are actually worthy of A&E.

AlwaysFreezing · 23/09/2023 07:27

Get your bags packed, plenty of drinks, chargers, a book etc. And go straight to A&E before the rush.

Hope he's OK.

Dontjudgeme101 · 23/09/2023 07:40

Please go to A & E. 💐💐

It worries me sometimes because it’s the last place I would think of asking!

It just wouldn't occur to me

richteaftw · 23/09/2023 07:47

Nurse here - if he's struggling go to A&E now. It could just be a sickness bug, but it could also be appendicitis. Please take him. Hope he's ok x
