How clean or dirty is your house right now?

My partner and I are in disagreement. My partner thinks that my standards of cleanliness are exceptionally high, and I think that my partner has exceptionally low standards.

So, how clean or dirty is your house right now? Would you be willing to post a photograph of your kitchen in the state that it is in right now?

My house is spiritually clean…

KateyCuckoo · 19/09/2023 19:58

I would be happy to post a pic...I'm not going to because of privacy reasons, but it's clean enough to.

AlwaysFreezing · 19/09/2023 20:01

Yeah, clean.

And tidy.

We have developed a system so that everyone knows what needs to be done and how to leave each room, so no dishes left, sides wiped, rubbish out. Etc etc.

H34th · 19/09/2023 20:03

Kitchen very clean looking. If you open the cupboards some of them are too cluttered though. Oven hasn't been cleaned properly for a long time too.

Rest of house - fine. My bookshelf looks a bit untidy though and it's bothering me a bit.

I am with you. Clean house is important for my inner peace.

Gnomegnomegnome · 19/09/2023 20:04

Clean and tidy but no, I won’t be uploading a photo to mumsnet.

Dh and I have different standards. He cleans up after himself, I clean properly.

countvoncount · 19/09/2023 20:04

Somewhere in between show home and cesspit

Gnomegnomegnome · 19/09/2023 20:06

Rest of house is clean and would take ten minutes maximum to tidy.

Rudolphthefrog · 19/09/2023 20:06

Clean enough that if my in-laws showed up I’d happily let them in. The kitchen sides are wiped, the dishes are drying on the draining board or in the dishwasher, the floor is swept and although the oven is a bit dirty and there’s some crumbs in the toaster it’s presentable. There’s kid related clutter but that’s just because our house is lived in!

Rest of house varies over time between immaculate and dusty/untidy but passable if you don’t look too closely. Depends when I was last inspired to clean. At present it’s sort of somewhere in between.

TheFairyCaravan · 19/09/2023 20:10

It’s tidy but probably as dusty as fuck as we’ve been on holiday for 12 days. We’re back tomorrow so I’ll soon find out.

MrsAvocet · 19/09/2023 20:10

Mine is a pig sty. I am in a non weight bearing cast on crutches at the moment and the rest of the family seems to be in complete denial regarding the need to do housework. We are going to be having a firmly worded "discussion" shortly as I am reaching the end of my tether and have had enough of hearing "I'll do it tomorrow". But normally it's fairly clean but not show home.

EdithStourton · 19/09/2023 20:22

Decent.
Parts of the kitchen could do with a proper clean, and a general tidy up would not go amiss, and the odd floor could do with a sweep, but anything obvious could be fixed by a one-hour blitz.

thaegumathteth · 19/09/2023 20:24

Kitchen and most of downstairs - yes.

Bedrooms and bathroom - no photo evidence!

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/09/2023 20:35

Kitchen is fine, except the oven has been calling for a clean (pyrolitic) and we haven’t done it yet. The tops of the cupboards have been cleaned today and the toaster is crumb free. The coffee machine has a regular clean and so does the dining table. Chairs and sofa have been vacuumed.

Clarabe1 · 19/09/2023 20:36

Mine is very clean and tidy at the moment, because DH is working away! I am also on a diet so have been distracting myself by giving the house a massive spring clean.

Terrribletwos · 19/09/2023 20:40

I think I am clean. I hoover, mop, clean fridge etc.

But I have never actually (bar a couple of occasions when things burnt and I have just brushed the burnt bits out) cleaned my oven.

Wakeywake · 19/09/2023 20:43

Right now, spotless, the cleaner has been today. The day after tomorrow it will look like a war zone.

Lovemusic82 · 19/09/2023 20:46

Mine is cluttered, run down, damaged flooring, carpet needs replacing and in need of a new bathroom I wouldn’t say it’s dirty but it’s lived in and not a show home.

Ragwort · 19/09/2023 20:48

Mine's clean enough, not a show home but I wouldn't be embarrassed to invite anyone in. I am not a slave to housework.

Why don't you post a picture of your kitchen & we can comment ....

Clefable · 19/09/2023 20:52

Clean enough that social services would be delighted, dirty enough that I could give a cleaner gainful employment for a few hours.

usernother · 19/09/2023 20:54

Mine looks very tidy. We have hardly anything out on the benches which helps it looks like that. Clean? I think it's clean but I don't wear my glasses when I'm in there so it might not be.

Chickpea17 · 19/09/2023 20:54

My entire house is spotless. I always have a very clean it's good for my mental health. More than happy to post a photo when you do

ASCCM · 19/09/2023 20:55

My kitchen is spotless as it always is ( I’m a bit obsessed) I mopped all the floors yesterday too so sparkly clean. Tbh the entire house is always spotless as I work from home and can’t concentrate if a job needs doing!

Clingy · 19/09/2023 20:55

Clean and tidy here, it stays clean and tidy because I have a cleaner and loads of storage/am not a hoarder.

It is actually important to me - for a peaceful mind. I find clutter and mess distracting.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/09/2023 20:56

Pretty bad. There's been a lot of illness in the house and a lot going on. The floor hasn't been mopped for weeks (although swept), the hob needs cleaning, the outside of the fridge and cooker need finger marks wiped off. There is clutter all over the dining table. However the sink and draining board are clean, the washing up is done, the dishwasher is stacked ready to run, there is nothing going off in the fridge, the dishcloth and tea towel are clean. I can sleep easy with that.

Healthandsocialcaremodule · 19/09/2023 20:56

I'd post a pic.

I like my house to be open to friends at all times. There might be a cup, some washing drying or toys out but that's plenty.
