How clean or dirty is your house right now?

My partner and I are in disagreement. My partner thinks that my standards of cleanliness are exceptionally high, and I think that my partner has exceptionally low standards.

So, how clean or dirty is your house right now? Would you be willing to post a photograph of your kitchen in the state that it is in right now?

Pretty tidy, pretty clean. I wouldn’t be horrified at unexpected visitors anyway. The kitchen always gets the last wipe down of the surfaces and the final few bits cleared up right before bed, while DH lets the dogs out, so is as clean right now as it ever is. The sitting room needs a hoover but that’s always my first thing job, but it’s tidy and clean otherwise.
I’m up against it a bit because we live and work on a farm, my husband is no help at all as he works all hours god sends and we have a whirlwind toddler and four dogs (two inside, two who sneak into the kitchen!) BUT I do put effort into our home and feel it’s good for the way I feel mentally to have a clean and tidy home, as much as is possible.

kavalkada · 20/09/2023 07:20

I wouldn't like somebody to come to my house at the moment. I have been working ten days without a day off 11 hours a day and after cooking, going to park with kids every day for two hours, washing, I'm exhausted.
I'll be free tomorrow and by sunday morning it will be like a show home.
And when monday comes... again.

My house is a state at the moment

Recovering from a severe kidney infection with a physically disabled 3 year old will do that for you!

Hoping to get on top of it when I feel a bit better or when he's at his dads this weekend

Clean enough that social services would be delighted, dirty enough that I could give a cleaner gainful employment for a few hours.

Basically my cleaning standards summarised

OldTinHat · 20/09/2023 07:33

My house is tidy but filthy. I have a cleaner (I'm disabled) and she couldn't come in for three weeks as I had covid. I can't wait to see her this weekend!

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 20/09/2023 07:35

Full sink of dishes. Couldn’t do them last night as dd2 wouldn’t fall asleep and by the time she did I fell asleep with her. Been up since 5 with her again. We had a dishwasher but it broke and tbh I don’t mind hand washing. I took out the dishwasher and replaced it with a pull out trolley on wheels to store cereal and bread so dd1 can reach them. Sides are wiped down though and floor hoovered. Need to clean the oven desperately but don’t get chance with dd2 refusing sleep and naps.

IHeartGeneHunt · 20/09/2023 07:46

I'm not posting photos, but it's clean. The kitchen and bathroom got deep cleaned on Monday, bedroom yesterday, living room will be done today. Deep cleaned once a fortnight and basic clean every day.

MammaTo · 20/09/2023 08:31

Currently looks like a bombs gone off while
im in the middle of Marie Kondo’ing everything to try and help me keep it tidier.

Tregothnanny · 20/09/2023 08:32

It's clean but cluttered with gadgets which is stressing me out

newlystyle · 20/09/2023 08:40

Clean because our cleaner has just been!

FlipFlops4Me · 20/09/2023 08:43

I have two electricians, a plasterer and a builder upstairs working. Cleaner came yesterday - downstairs was clear of dust for an hour or two. I'd let anyone in - hopefully they came to see me and not perform a house inspection. If they do look snooty about the state of the place they can fuck off.

Caspianberg · 20/09/2023 08:44

its clean and tidy. We finally replaced the 50 year old kitchen about 18 months ago.

Designed it with our daily use in mind, it has breakfast cupboard for hiding toaster and kettle. And I decluttered all kitchen stuff to minimal. So now there’s nothing stored on actual kitchen sides at all when not in use, and it takes minutes to clean.

Actually the same concept all over house. Some still need decor and improvement ie ancient bathroom. But we have probably got rid of 70% of what we moved here with 8 years ago. ( and now have toddler stuff in mix).

Im recovering from surgery at the moment and cant lift anything/do heavy housework/move vaccum around house- so am stuck at home, getting really frustrated with mess but not able to tackle it as normal.
DP great and DCs good at pitching in after a bit of prompting but its not up to my usual standards as they dont seem to see dust or put stuff away, but I cant complain because the place is still running. DP is great at cleaning but his strategy is to do one room/big job at a time, whereas I am more a 'little and often person' who keeps a general standard of neatness/organisation. Normally this coordinates really well as we play to our strengths.

Id be happy to take a picture of the kitchen as DH blitzed it last night, but the rest of the house is never ending craft crap from DD and every spider in creation seems to have decided to move in during the time I was in hospital and start building Arachnotropolis. Im apparently allowed to exercise and walk a bit more now, so asked DH to buy me an extenable fluffy duster yesterday.
Todays job/retraining activity will be walking round, systematically de-webbing each room. How thrilling! DH will vacuum when he gets back

BogRollBOGOF · 20/09/2023 08:54

I'd be fine for a friend to walk in with enough notice to freshen the toilets.
Would sort out some of the more cluttery corners for my family.
In-law clean is only done a few times a year and takes a week of focus.

It's functionally clean. Definitely a lived-in family home though. My children have executive function issues. I can't sustain immaculate for more than 6 hours, and it wouldn't enhance my life to try and enforce it.

allhellcantstopusnow · 20/09/2023 09:05

My house is mostly tidy. The cleaner came last week but was ill this week so it probably needs a good hoover.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 20/09/2023 09:12

I'd happily take pictures of anything in my house except my dressing room that's a bit chaotic but still clean. It's just got lots of products out in "display"

My house is always clean and tidy but then I live alone so have no excuses and no one else to blame really

Iwantmyoldnameback · 20/09/2023 09:16

I'm the same. Do people really have enough cupboard space for slow cookers, air fryers, mixers, steamers, food processors, toasters and kettles?

andrainwillmaketheflowersgrow · 20/09/2023 09:18

Clean and tidy except for the spare room which has turned into DH's dumping ground.

The bathroom is also a bit of a state as it flooded yesterday (thanks storms!) and is in the process of being dried out.

CornishGem1975 · 20/09/2023 09:19

It's often tidy, not always clean but it's so cluttered right now it's stressing me out and I can't clean properly as I feel we're drowning in stuff. Plan is to declutter, reduce stuff by at least 25% and then pay someone to come in and do a deep clean of things like doors, woodwork, blinds etc

Caspianberg · 20/09/2023 09:21

@Iwantmyoldnameback - no. I haven’t space for all those, so I simply don’t own them. We have a nutribullet which is small
and lives in a drawer. And a hot water dispenser (instead of kettle) and toaster live in a breakfast cupboard so they get used in there also and door closed afterwards.
We don’t own slow cooker/ steamers/ instant pots/ soup makers/ coffee machine etc etc. we only have a small kitchen, so have to prioritise.

Howlongdoesittake · 20/09/2023 09:23

Mine is awful at the moment. Having a new kitchen fitted, my life is in boxes. Dust everywhere and the stress to the dogs of strangers in and out, drills, hammets etc has made one pee in the house. Fortunately the carpets are coming up anyway. Would not let anyone step inside my house right now. But life is short so heading off for coffee with DD and dogs, leaving kitchen fitters to it.

phoenixrosehere · 20/09/2023 09:26

Not as tidy as I like and am trying to be and it’s frustrating. It’s like Groundhog Day where I tidy things up and it’s grubby again a few hours later. I’m at the point, if I won a house, I would move in it alone or at least with the youngest DC.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 20/09/2023 10:44

Why would anyone start a thread like this and not post a photo of their own pristine kitchen?

anothertrainwreck · 20/09/2023 10:50

The whole house is clean and tidy enough that I am quite content with it. Cleaner comes for 2 hours on a Thursday so theoretically today is about as dirty as it gets here, floors are probably the thing that are grubbiest but they’re not heinous, we do poke the hoover around as we go.

HurdyGurdy19 · 20/09/2023 10:54

Perhaps not quite what you're looking for, but this is the current state of my kitchen. Needless to say, despite my best efforts to keep it under control, the rest of the house has brick dust bloody everywhere.

To answer your actual question, my house is generally clean, but clearly lived in. I couldn't live in a show home. I'd not be embarrassed if someone called round unexpectedly, but I might mutter under my breath a bit about stuff not being put away.

How clean or dirty is your house right now?
