Writing a review of a product…

’haven’t used it yet because I got it for my cousin’s birthday and she hasn’t opened it.

why write the review then?! Are people genuinely that stupid?

Yes, yes they are.

I know a woman who answers almost every FB group post and if she doesn’t know an answer she comments to say that. Like your example, utterly fucking pointless and no one cares.

Far too many idiotic narcissists around.

wbagnlw · 14/09/2023 22:01

@Meowandthen oh yes I’ve seen that too!! ‘Not sure hun.’ Cheers 👍

I think the problem is people get sent a 'please review our product' email and if they aren't used to ignoring stuff like that they feel obliged to reply.

BrokenAndAfraid · 14/09/2023 22:03

I don't mind this as at least you know its a genuine as its been received. They can then update it if it's rubbish !

RunnyPaint · 14/09/2023 22:03

Someone made the decision to automate repeatedly requesting feedback for items the moment they are delivered, and before anyone could have had the opportunity to use them...

pavillion1 · 14/09/2023 22:03

This is one of my biggest bug bares . i could rant about people's utterly useless reviews for hours .

Yes, I used to wonder about this kind of "review", too. But I saw elsewhere somebody say that Amazon sends persistent emails to you if you buy something, reminding you to review the item you bought, and that the emails don't make it obvious that you are being invited to leave an actual review on the product webpage for everybody to see.

Angryappendix · 14/09/2023 22:05

Arghhh since becoming parent, the amount of 5 star reviews I have seen from grandparents saying things like below drives me mad!

”brought for my new grandson as a gift but hasn’t used it yet”

Yes it's this. I used to be mystified by those weird non-reviews/'replies' to questions, until I got one of the emails.

The way the email was framed, I could totally see how someone less familiar with online stuff might feel like they were being personally asked and someone real was awaiting their reply -- rather than recognising that it was just kind of an automatic marketing thing.

But you just ignore the email!! I get them. I have never bothered to leave a review.

CharlotteBog · 14/09/2023 22:17

I ordered something from Ebay today. Strangely enough it hasn't arrived yet.
I've already received an email asking to review my Ebay experience.
Daftness indeed.

This is why.

Moccasin · 14/09/2023 22:21

I buy loads from Amazon and don’t think I ever receive emails asking me to review.
I’ve seen the ones you mean though. So stupid.

@Meowandthen I have an older relative who does that on FB, like she thinks that each of the posts are being sent to her directly. She’s one of those that shares a post about a missing cat in Tennessee (she lives in Norfolk)

In a vet pharmacy class our lecturer told us about a woman with a dog who had fleas and she couldn’t understand why the spot-on treatment was not working… she had taped TAPED the tube to the dogs back- hadn’t even opened the fucking thing either

wbagnlw · 14/09/2023 22:25

@BrennanBooth omg what on earth

I saw one on a local website the other day - someone apologising about her children being noisy. One helpful reply said "it doesn't bother me, but I live 20 miles away".

This is wonderful.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 14/09/2023 22:33

DP wrote a book a few years ago on quite a niche subject (think something along the lines of 'the best wood for scaffolding planks'). It was literally titled as such.
He got a one star review from someone saying they were massively disappointed that it only dealt with the best wood for scaffolding planks. He's also had one star reviews from people saying 'bought as a gift, recipient hasn't read it yet' and one star reviews from people saying they absolutely loved it & have bought copies for all their friends. When we're bored, we check out the new reviews for a giggle Grin

Waffle78 · 14/09/2023 22:34

I've always thought this. I always take it out and check it's not broken or works if I'm giving as a gift. Especially if giving to a child and it needs batteries.

Woollyguru · 14/09/2023 22:36

I get these all the time, before I've even received the purchase. I always ignore them, if they want me to spend my time giving them a review they can pay me, otherwise it's free marketing!

madroid1 · 14/09/2023 22:36

Or the way some bright spark decided that if you buy a washing machine say then Google will show you ad after ad for more washing machines.

I've bought the bloody thing now, I don't want to see endless more of the same product.

Yes, the level of stupidity is astonishing.

I live abroad, mainly ex pat community. Massive works on the whole area's water system yesterday, message from the water company at 10pm that the repair has been completed but that the whole system ( that serves 1, 150 properties) would need to re fil to come up to pressure , so would not be officially back on until 6am. I swear to god, within 10 seconds of the water company posting this on FB there were 20+ replies of " just tried my tap, water only dribbling out ...
" yes you daft fuckers, because they have literally just explained that this would take 8 hours, not 8 seconds !!!
