Writing a review of a product…

’haven’t used it yet because I got it for my cousin’s birthday and she hasn’t opened it.

why write the review then?! Are people genuinely that stupid?

This has been deleted by MNHQ for breaking our Talk Guidelines.

I'm guessing it begins with a A. We once order cucumber and received a lettuce (yes we already had a lettuce on the order.

A friend was checking wheelchair reviews and out of MANY 5 star reviews there were a few 1 stars as “I can’t engage the brake”… he bought the wheelchair, read the very brief instructions and actually the brake is almost the best feature of the entire thing!

hennaoj · 15/09/2023 07:01

My 12 year old stuck a small stone in his ear last night. Why, he doesn't not know. Thanks to him we spent 4 hours in A&E last night.

CosyNightsOnTheSofa · 15/09/2023 07:02

On the argos website there are lots of reviews that say "bought for our grandson for Christmas, I'm sure he'll love it" helpful 🤣.

BreatheAndFocus · 15/09/2023 07:08

Yes, those idiotic Amazon reviews drive me crazy! They mess up the score for the items too because some halfwits have given one star because “I don’t know. I haven’t read it yet”, “It was a present. Not read”, etc etc.

The other Amazon reviews that annoy me are people who review the seller on the product review page. Therefore you’ll suddenly see a one star review for a much-praised book/film/whatever, and when you read it it will say something like “Ordered two weeks ago and still not arrived”, “Pages yellow and cover torn”. Just beyond stupid! I used to comment on those reviews giving an example of equal idiocy in the faint hope they might understand.

FourChimneys · 15/09/2023 07:13

On our local fb page recently

Does anyone know what that smell is?

A few relevant comments and then one saying I can't smell anything but I'm in Birmingham.

Our town is a very long way from Birmingham.

Also, slightly different but we had a new cooker last year. It came with a large sticker saying Warning. This appliance becomes hot in use.

It was so gloriously stupid that we have a framed photo of it on the kitchen wall.

Thepeopleversuswork · 15/09/2023 07:16

I think a lot of people develop a grossly over inflated sense of the importance of their own opinions and feel like the company has to know that Jane Bloggs of Nether Wallop was disappointed. No, love you’re not Jay Rayners.

The culture of having to review everything had led to an epidemic of self importance.

Malificent1 · 15/09/2023 07:18

On Amazon, top reviewers get sent crap for free in return for more reviews.

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 15/09/2023 07:45

I have a small business and sell items on Etsy, Ebay and Amazon Handmade.

I particularly love the reviews I get which mention that the item is smaller than expected.

Full measurements (height, length, diameter etc, including volume where applicable) are in the description, and many items have a photo of them next to a well known widely available item for reference too.

Just to say - most sellers hate that customers are nagged to leave a review too, but we don't have any say in it, it's the site which sends them out. Low star reviews can really hurt a small business, so please don't leave them in anger, we'd stop those emails coming if we could :)

@Jcp1975 I think you've posted your question in the middle of someone's thread rather than aibu. May be worth asking for it to be moved.

Also I don't quite understand your post. Who had the still birth and how does that relate to your DIL not using the clothes you bought for your gc?

DoItAgainPlz · 14/09/2023 23:40

It irritates me when someone includes a review of their delivery when they should only be reviewing the actual product.

You get it all the time on sites like asos.

A one-star review with the message "shorts are fine but the delivery driver arrived a hour after he said he would".

Your problem is with your local traffic and Hermes. It's not relevant to this review!

Like on trip advisor 'everything about the hotel was fantastic, but I've given a one star review because I didn't like the food on the flight' errr how is that the fault of the hotel? Thickos seem to use it to review their whole holiday experience

Elesbe · 15/09/2023 07:55

One of my biggest bugbears (totally wanted to misspell it for PP) is reaching for some ice cubes and finding eleventy two empty trays. I am going to print this out and put it on the fridge. Also, the questions and reviews are hilarious!!!

Recipe : Ice Cubes

I'm still wondering why they want you to old ice cubes into the bin, though.

HoraceTheLlama · 15/09/2023 07:57

The people that leave these reviews are the same people that middle lane hog from the other thread the other day

Very much like you get on here...

"No advice OP, but didn't want to read and run".

I was thinking of posting the same point. FFS, no-one knows or cares if you read and run, what on earth is the point?

Janieforever · 15/09/2023 08:02

I saw one the other day, it was a glass bottle and someone wrote “they were disappointed as they dropped it and it broke. They understood it was glass, but still, for the cost it was disappointing”

not only that, they also attached an image of the broken bottle.

AgnesX · 15/09/2023 08:04

People just don't engage their brain before any other part of their anatomy. Especially given the numbers of posts that have nothing to do with this thread.

Badbadbunny · 15/09/2023 08:10

Far too many people are just batshit and stupid now.

Yup. I've even had potential new clients send me a photo of the cover of their passport for ID proof - the cover! Not the photo/data page. What kind of stupid would think that was even remotely what anyone would want as evidence of ID? I'd have put it down to a mistake if it happened once, but it's happened several times from different people. We've obviously now edited our request form to clearly say a photo of "the page showing your photo and details" - these days, so many people are so stupid they need literally everything spoon-feeding to them - zero common sense at all!

jinyjo · 15/09/2023 08:11

had an elderly aunt who was having trouble going to the toilet. Doctor prescribed suppositories asked if she knew how to use them, she said yes but should have said no. She asked her sister who told her you need to push them up your rear end. A few weeks later on being asked if the tablets had worked she replied oh yes they worked fine but emptying those capsules and getting all that powder up was a bugger of a job !! lol

BrennanBooth · 14/09/2023 22:23

In a vet pharmacy class our lecturer told us about a woman with a dog who had fleas and she couldn’t understand why the spot-on treatment was not working… she had taped TAPED the tube to the dogs back- hadn’t even opened the fucking thing either

@BrennanBooth and you can bet any review would have been along the lines of "I was charged x amount by the vet for flea treatment which doesn't work, I think it's disgusting" upon which the internet piles on to agree what a rip off it all is and professionalism prevents the vet from pointing out the client's idiocy...

It doesn't quite fit, but I need to let it out somewhere! Why in Aldi, and it only seems to be in Aldi (I do my food shop there every week, no Aldi snobbery here!) do people not understand how the bloody check out belt works. There I am with my trolley piled high with the weekly family shop, I start putting it onto the belt, maybe halfway along after somebody else has finished, and somebody comes straight up behind you and starts unloading their shopping, giving me about 30cm to fit in 50+ items, every bloody time!! USE YOUR EYES AND YOUR BRAIN!!!!! Argh!!!

Edited

Urgh every flaming time. I also get the person in front slowly loading shopping into their bags instead of doing it in the packing area. My grumpy DH always moans loudly about it lol

Winnading · 15/09/2023 08:30

ThinWomansBrain · 14/09/2023 23:38

we've got a 'have to reply to everything' on our apartment WhatsApp group

every bloody time - tells us her doorbell doesn't work five times a week.
we know, we don't care!

I don't find Amazon chases for reviews too persistently, but I bought a new mattress (not from Amazon) earlier in the year - asked to write a review THREE time before the bloody thing arrived.

Edited

And with some items, like say a mattress, you would surely want to use it for some time before giving a review.

What's the point of sleeping on it for one or two nights, giving a great review, when in 10 months it might have sagged or fallen apart or be too hot or too cold or smelly or whatever happens to mattresses.
