Writing a review of a product…

’haven’t used it yet because I got it for my cousin’s birthday and she hasn’t opened it.

why write the review then?! Are people genuinely that stupid?

People are getting like the Ood-they carry their brains in their hand.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 excellent!!!

I sold a pair of shoes years ago on eBay, a question I was asked was 'I'm this size will they fit me'

HowToSaveAWife · 15/09/2023 08:33

My favourite was buying a pack of small ornamental mirrors on Amazon that stick directly on the wall... the AMOUNT of people who said they were FUMING because the "mirrors were all foggy and couldn't see a thing..." then they'd post a pic of the item they received.. with the protective film still on.

You can't fix stupid.

It doesn't quite fit, but I need to let it out somewhere! Why in Aldi, and it only seems to be in Aldi (I do my food shop there every week, no Aldi snobbery here!) do people not understand how the bloody check out belt works. There I am with my trolley piled high with the weekly family shop, I start putting it onto the belt, maybe halfway along after somebody else has finished, and somebody comes straight up behind you and starts unloading their shopping, giving me about 30cm to fit in 50+ items, every bloody time!! USE YOUR EYES AND YOUR BRAIN!!!!! Argh!!!

Edited

This has happened to me a few times in Aldi and when I told one man I was still loading my shopping he got really nasty. This definitely only happens in Aldi!

ArthnoldManacatsaman · 15/09/2023 08:36

@ZadocPDederick I wondered that at first but given that it mentions replacing the ‘ice bin’ later in the recipe, I assume that’s the bin it wants you to tip the ice into. (I don’t know what an ice bin is, my freezer definitely doesn’t have one)

I think the problem is people get sent a 'please review our product' email and if they aren't used to ignoring stuff like that they feel obliged to reply.

Yes, I’m assuming that explains those baffling book reviews on Amazon where someone doesn’t appear to realise they’re meant to review the book, but instead leaves a comment about how it arrived safely in undamaged packaging, and they’re quite satisfied?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 15/09/2023 08:37

I saw one on some fake Lego on Amazon saying they hadn't realised it had to be put together.

I saw one on a local website the other day - someone apologising about her children being noisy. One helpful reply said "it doesn't bother me, but I live 20 miles away".

I think they were probably being amusing. I'd have laughed.

Man (about 55-60)in pharmacy yesterday holding up queue. Very 'clipped' and sharp manner to assistant. First of all gave the wrong name for the prescription he was collecting so it took time to find - he was irritated by this. Then he says ' I would like to ask you how we get a shingles vaccination'.
Assistant. 'Oh we are not doing those here. You will have to ask your GP.'
Man 'But I want to have it here. I will pay.'
Assistant 'We are not doing those. I have no idea how you get one outside of your GP practice. You will need to ask at your GP practice.'
Man 'I'd rather have it here. Why can't I have it here?'
Assistant 'We are not involved with this at all. We don't offer the vaccine or keep any supplies of it. I don't even know how it is being done. GP practices will know.'
Man ' Well we had our flu vaccines here.'
Assistant 'But it isn't a flu vaccine. It is a different programme of vaccination. I'm sorry not to be able to help you but your GP practice will be able to advise what is possible where.'
Man 'I'd also like details of how it works to prevent shingles.'
Assistant 'I'm sorry sir but I don't know how it works.' She was patient and polite throughout.
Man 'harrumphs' and says after a pause and a studied gaze 'You aren't really very helpful.' Finally leaves.

Rest of queue heaves sigh of relief.

If you have a link to these people I would love to read them. Stuck in bed with a broken foot and need some cheering up.

The reviews on BIC For Her are classics of the genre, sample below.

There are threads gathering treasures like this, can't remember if Mumsnet, Ravelry, Guardian. Worth a rummage.

Yea but then they will give it 5 stars. Or 1 star. Arrggg

honeylulu · 15/09/2023 08:45

On our local mums' Facebook page we get posts like "hi mum's [sic] where can I get a birthday cake? "
No other info ie bespoke? Tiers? Design? When needed?
Cue lots of sarky responses like "Try Tesco" and then the OP telling people they are rude and unhelpful.

My dad is a pharmacist (now retired) and he swears this happened. Bloke came in moaning that he'd taken a whole pack of the suppositories he'd been prescribed and he was still constipated. Noting the word "taken" Dad made further enquiries and indeed the guy had swallowed them. He added (apparently!) "For all the good they did I might as well have shoved them up my arse".

Finally one from me. I'm honestly quite clever but I led quite a sheltered life and was very clueless and dippy when I left home. When I got my first flat there was no hot water coming out of the taps and I phoned Thames Water to complain. The very kind lady on the phone had to politely explain that hot water is not piped in by TW. My cheeks are burning even remembering it.

Elvis1956 · 15/09/2023 08:46

I hate the clearly clap trap posts on FB... FB are trying to ban this image (of a union flag or a bacon sandwich) which clearly is trying to goad thick racist bigots. Plus the lost/found dog in the USA when they live in Brighton.
But the worst are the stupid stupid fake news designed to scare people. One an elderly friend shared about the dumping of soil in the Bristol channel as they are building a new nuclear power station at Hinckley down water.
The post said it was radioactive and will poison the drinking water. Well our water comes from chew valley lake, the Bristol channel is salt water and the mud being dumped is from a clear site. But my friend was clearly worried

YANBU. Some people have 2 brains cells that are both fighting for third place.

I'm going to remember and use this! 😂

Defiantjazz · 15/09/2023 08:49

Yes, I used to wonder about this kind of "review", too. But I saw elsewhere somebody say that Amazon sends persistent emails to you if you buy something, reminding you to review the item you bought, and that the emails don't make it obvious that you are being invited to leave an actual review on the product webpage for everybody to see

Yeah it’s probably something like this

I read an Amazon review for a book which was four stars. It said, ‘I loved this book and really didn’t want it to end. It did so I had to knock a star off’.

😂😂

😂

One of my novellas, which despite having 'novella' in the title and with the first sentence of the book description stating in capital letters that it is a novella, not a full length book, still gets reviews that state "too short".

I was thinking of posting the same point. FFS, no-one knows or cares if you read and run, what on earth is the point?

Sometimes people just want the OP to know they have been heard, even if the reader has no useful advice. I tend to leave a flower in those cases.

I read a one-star review of a book on Amazon which read, in its entirety:

"The author advertises his book on Facebook."

Eh? So what?

Nc1111111111 · 15/09/2023 09:14

Ncd for this.
Worked for mobile network operator on helpline. A woman signed up to new contract going from PAYG. She called acreaming that we scammed her because the sim doesn't fit into her phone and she doesn't want new phone, we should have told her. This was when all sims were 1 size.
After 25min of her fuming at me and calling me an idiot in many different ways, I finally asked the question I was holding back.
Yup, it turned out she didn't take old sim out, tried to force new one in as well, because she wanted to keep the number and no one told her she has to switch sims. Apparently I was still the idiot for not telling her even though I was not there when she took out the contract.

This is exactly it.

And without sounding ageist, the person is often of the older generation and someone who isn’t as internet savvy and so when they get these emails they just answer honestly.

I agree.

I’ve read threads on here when women are in desperate situations but because they’re not as exciting as some threads some posters don’t comment or have a chance to see it.

Commenting let’s the person know they’ve been heard and offers a bit of support and it also makes the thread more visible, as the more people who comment means it will go in trending and they can get more advice.
