Is all I can think of when I hear it. I mean it's quite a strong word, perhaps distasteful could be used for perfectly reasonable views that you disagree with.

Viiiile

Yes it is. I cannot agree with you more.

I never ever hear it in real life yet on MN every teeny tiny thing is labelled vile

curiouscat1987 · 08/09/2023 20:47

I vote for unhinged :)

vampire13 · 08/09/2023 20:50

I've never seen anyone say vile on here but I hear it all the time in real life 😂

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 08/09/2023 20:51

Hardly ever see vile on MN

Sunshineclouds11 · 08/09/2023 20:52

😂😂 I've just said this word on a thread.

But she's talking about having sex in the same bed as her sleeping child so I stand by saying vile.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 08/09/2023 20:52

I don't know but thanks for reminding me of Linda LaHughes. Bloody hilarious 😂

thistimelastweek · 08/09/2023 20:53

I see your vile and raise you toxic.

(Keeping entitled up my sleeve.)

LolaSmiles · 08/09/2023 20:54

I'm convinced you could start a thread saying that you only change the bathroom hand towel daily, and someone would tell you that you're vile because a hand towel should be single use only and boil washed between uses.

Thats vile.

It should be incinerated.

Hbh17 · 08/09/2023 20:56

The worst one on here (and overused) is "spotless" - nobody ever says it in real life and it just makes me think how sad some people must be that they think this is aspirational.

Honeychickpea · 08/09/2023 20:57

No. Grim is the most overused word on MN, followed closely by narcissistic.

AgnesX · 08/09/2023 20:58

Along with triggered and spiralling. Everybody seems to be "triggered" recently.

JanglingJack · 08/09/2023 20:58

Bunch of vile toxic, entitled cunts. Ick!

Chocolatelabradorsarethebest · 08/09/2023 20:59

Definitely agree with the overuse of vile and toxic!

My pet hate word is ‘frugal’. I don’t think I’ve ever used or heard that word in real life, but on here everyone is frugal, lives frugally etc. It’s the one word that really gives me the rage, usually because people use it in such a condescending and self-righteous way!

SurprisedWithAHorse · 08/09/2023 21:03

That and "grim".

They were popular words in the 90s, so you have to expect it. But yes, it's annoying.

whatsappdoc · 08/09/2023 21:06

It used to be 'livid'. Instead of being mildly irritated ops in aibu would be 'livid'. I miss it

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 08/09/2023 21:08

I have no idea why people make such a fuss about this word. I swear that I read comments about how often it's used almost as often as I see the word actually used. Are you seriously objecting to it on the grounds that it's 'quite a strong word'? Oh no! Yes it's quite a strong word, because it means 'extremely horrible or unpleasant'. So why would you say 'distasteful' instead?

No-one is just a selfish bastard. They're a narcissist.

itsmyp4rty · 08/09/2023 21:12

Oh I love grim and vile. Says so much with so little.

Laboriprofumi · 08/09/2023 21:14

I vote " unhinged" and "you're projecting"

Reallybadidea · 08/09/2023 21:14

It's the new 'entitled'

SurprisedWithAHorse · 08/09/2023 21:14

Someone whined at me earlier for using the phrase "if you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you". Apparently that phrase is very in vogue now. Can't say I've noticed a rush of people saying it, here or anywhere else. It's pretty old.

Are you seriously objecting to it on the grounds that it's 'quite a strong word'?

No, just on the grounds that it's really, really overused to the point where it isn't even the right word a lot of the time.

atelli · 08/09/2023 21:16

‘Grim’ and ‘selfish’ always used for the most minor things as well

AllyCart · 08/09/2023 21:16

On MN? "gross" or "called out", yes I know that's not A word, but still...

Glittertwins · 08/09/2023 21:17

thistimelastweek · 08/09/2023 20:53

I see your vile and raise you toxic.

(Keeping entitled up my sleeve.)

And I'll go for narc / narcissist etc!
