Is all I can think of when I hear it. I mean it's quite a strong word, perhaps distasteful could be used for perfectly reasonable views that you disagree with.

Viiiile

'Some grifter selling a book', wasn't that the bible at the end of the day?

Calistano · 08/09/2023 22:10

Probably, hence stop relying on bollocks sayings and think for yourself.

Can I add that everyone keeps calm during discussions/ arguments? MN never raise their voice .
Veggies.
Toxic.
Triggering.
Boundaries .

Calistano · 08/09/2023 22:14

Apparently that hanlons razor thing "never attribute conspiracy where stupidity could be attributed" that's not the right quote, but you know what I mean. That originated in a joke book, it's bollocks, just because someone says something doesn't mean it's true.

I forgot to add the phrase 'educate yourself.' Now that is really irritating.

I see your toxic vile and raise you fuming.

OK, I play anxiety.

Mylovelygreendress · 08/09/2023 22:19

Have a word with yourself .

it is popular! But no , the most overused word is baffled , followed closely by simply. Horrid was top of the leader board for a while but tf that seems to have calmed down.
while we’re on the subject , Why do people ‘pull’ their kids out of school?!

Yes, people "pull" them out of school - usually with a complaint that the child hasn't been "stretched" enough.

It all sounds quite painful.

YoureALizardHarry11 · 08/09/2023 22:30

Incandescent with rage 🤣 ‘discusting’ is popular on Facebook 🤣

Thepeopleversuswork · 08/09/2023 22:35

Grim and vile I can deal with. Phrases bother me more than individual words.

"Love language" is indeed embarrassing. Particularly because it's invariably applied to the behaviour of some knuckle-dragging man baby in the context of his sexual predilections.

ie: "He said he wanted to take me roughly from behind because that's his love language."

Another one I loathe is "You'll never get the time back", always applied by SAHMs to a working mother.

And finally: "It's called parenting. You should try it." Applied usually when someone asks a complex and nuanced question about their child's behaviour which prompts a slew of self-important huffing.

switswoo81 · 08/09/2023 22:40

Yanbu but I'd also add "faff" . Usually accompanied by I'm so lazy so I just do x whereas poster knows full well that x is the "right response" as judged by a large portion of mumsnetters

I see your vile and raise you toxic.

(Keeping entitled up my sleeve.)

Love it 🤣🤣🤣🤣

No. Grim is the most overused word on MN, followed closely by narcissistic.

YES !!!!! XXX

Lurkylurks · 09/09/2023 00:55

I see "odd" here a lot. Maybe it's just one of those things where once you notice something the first time you start to see it everywhere, and it's not as frequent as other words people have listed here. But no one I know in real life says things like "this seems rather odd to me" or "I find that odd".

BananaSlug · 09/09/2023 01:02

No I rarely see vile. I think the over used word on here is “grim” never really hear anyone saying it irl

GrandHighPoohbah · 09/09/2023 02:47

Vanishingly rare. Never heard anyone use that irl, but lots on MN.

LifeIsShambolic · 09/09/2023 06:56

I have never noticed anyone say vile IRL, only on here.
Similarly, the word 'gosh'.
It makes me cringe when someone starts a reply to an OP with 'gosh, that sounds terrible' or something along those lines. I immediately imagine them dressed in a pink twin set with pearls and a neat perm😂

SurprisedWithAHorse · 09/09/2023 07:10

Bizarre. If you don't share someone's viewpoint, it's bizarre.

MNers also spend a lot of time cringing.

GrandHighPoohbah · 09/09/2023 07:16

People on MN are often say they are "baffled" when they actually mean "patronisingly unimaginative".

GoodVibesHere · 09/09/2023 07:17

Gaslighting. Everyone on mumsnet thinks someone is gaslighting them. I've never heard it used in real life!

Lurkylurks · 09/09/2023 07:18

Mumsnetspeak words and phrases are turning up in my inner monologue more and more. I should stop spending so much time here before I start doing it out loud 😂

Teenagelament · 09/09/2023 07:30

Peaked

Shouldn't it be piqued?
