Is all I can think of when I hear it. I mean it's quite a strong word, perhaps distasteful could be used for perfectly reasonable views that you disagree with.

Viiiile

Gaslighting. Everyone on mumsnet thinks someone is gaslighting them. I've never heard it used in real life!

I do hear it in RL. But in the correct context where it means a pattern of psychological manipulation/abuse where the perpetrator uses it to make the victim question their sanity/version of reality.

Some MNetters seem to think it means, someone disagreeing with you/them or having a different recollection of the incident.

Which isn't gaslighting.

I would say “woke” and “Americanism” are overused and often makes me think lesser of the posters.

Thepeopleversuswork · 09/09/2023 11:56

I also find the phrase “my little/our little family” toe-curlingly twee. I feel embarrassed for people who use this.

Also “it works for our family”. Usually code for “it works for him and I tolerate it”.

It annoys me when super is overused.

Calistano · 09/09/2023 12:18

Tbh forums are just doing my nut in atm, I'm going to have to read books again. Walls of text about nothing much. Everyone is arsey too, no fun to be had.

Well, yeah that's what happens.

People come to it all enthusiastic and after a while they notice all the things that were there before but they didn't notice because when you're enjoying it, you focus on the good things.

Isn't overusing a word a safeguarding issue?

atelli · 09/09/2023 12:43

Safeguarding and safeguarding issue

Boundaries, especially firm and clear boundaries when it comes to parenting

Honeychickpea · 09/09/2023 14:29

Has anyone mentioned "shaking and sobbing" yet? Usually due to trivial incidents at the school gate or related to a tradesman in the house.

Yes that's a huge misnomer also.

Something a poster doesn't like, is unfamiliar with or is something they've imagined in their head doesn't equal a safeguarding issue.

This was entirely lost on the very vocal posters who thought what they thought was true about Philip Schofield and Huw Edwards was factually true, and that ITV and BBC should have activated some previously unknown 'safeguarding protocols' about something they couldn't possibly know was true involving adults.

That made me chuckle.

Should have a Cockologist. The man who pretends to listen and understand you.

I do say Yikes in real life. Zoinks too! Usually talking myself thankfully.

Role. No known has a job here, they all have/are applying for/work in a 'role.'

Triggered. Everyone is triggered by everything.
