Is all I can think of when I hear it. I mean it's quite a strong word, perhaps distasteful could be used for perfectly reasonable views that you disagree with.

Viiiile

Thats vile.

It should be incinerated.

🤣🤣 Competitive cleaning. That's a sport I learned about from MN.

LolaSmiles · 08/09/2023 21:17

Oh I love grim and vile. Says so much with so little.
They're great when used properly.
'vile' is an excellent word choice to describe some of the behaviour on some relationship threads.

I can't take grim seriously anymore though. Grim seems to mean anything from genuinely wallowing in utter filth to "my husband left an empty mug on the kitchen side for 10 minutes and he doesn't stack the plates in the dishwasher in the way I like".

statetrooperstacey · 08/09/2023 21:20

it is popular! But no , the most overused word is baffled , followed closely by simply. Horrid was top of the leader board for a while but tf that seems to have calmed down.
while we’re on the subject , Why do people ‘pull’ their kids out of school?!

Oh yeah, baffled. "I am always baffled by..."

It's always said about something really simple, too. I've seen posters saying they are always baffled by hot chocolate and Christmas pyjamas. If I was baffled by those things, I really wouldn't admit to it.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/09/2023 21:25

The outrage about stuff happening “in a cost of living crisis!!!!” is good too. It’s always a huge overreaction about nothing. Nice to have replaced “…..in the middle of a global pandemic!!!!” though

GrandHighPoohbah · 08/09/2023 21:27

I vote for "controlling".

Happycow · 08/09/2023 21:28

God, i use the word vile sometimes IRL, but only with that voice 😅

GrandHighPoohbah · 08/09/2023 21:30

Also "tone deaf". Mainly used when someone has a different lifestyle to the OP and dares to mention any element of it.

LizardLizard · 08/09/2023 21:34

I vote for “veggies”.

Or “love language”.

Or maybe they just irritate me.

Calistano · 08/09/2023 21:34

What does it mean?? I have asked this before and crickets. I am missing some vital context. I get the gist of it, but have no idea of the origin.

For God's sake, did quote, meant the bridge thing.

Did you know that love language thing was totally invented by some grifter selling a book, fuck all behind it, yet its quoted forevermore.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 08/09/2023 21:45

Definitely grim.

Glittertwins · 08/09/2023 21:46

At the risk of sounding dumb, what's " love language"? I've been here for some time but never come across it

foxlover47 · 08/09/2023 21:47

Grim ... the only time I ever see this word is on here

I see your vile and raise you toxic.

(Keeping entitled up my sleeve.)

I see your toxic vile and raise you fuming.

AffIt · 08/09/2023 21:55

I'll put my money on narc / narcissist.

It's astonishing how many MNers have personal experience of or the ability to diagnose a vanishingly rare psychiatric condition.

Silverballet · 08/09/2023 21:58

Yes.

Along with "suspect" (as in," I suspect"); "cohort"; and "latter". All are just so annoying. It feels pretentious, or smug. I don't know why!

Thinkbiglittleone · 08/09/2023 22:00

Oh no, I think where I have seen Vile used, it is normally well required. And ever more so on here,

Silverballet · 08/09/2023 22:00

Also, any chat that is recommended must require one person to sit the other one down for.

I can chat standing up.

Calistano · 08/09/2023 22:01

I have no idea why people make such a fuss about this word. I swear that I read comments about how often it's used almost as often as I see the word actually used. Are you seriously objecting to it on the grounds that it's 'quite a strong word'? Oh no! Yes it's quite a strong word, because it means 'extremely horrible or unpleasant'. So why would you say 'distasteful' instead?

It's the overuse of the word, I think. It's unimaginative.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 08/09/2023 22:04

Calistano · 08/09/2023 22:01

Thanks @SurprisedWithAHorse

It's a good phrase. Go forth and use it.

Araminta34 · 08/09/2023 22:04

My vote goes to boundaries .Then no contact. Then low contact. Then toxic.
