Is all I can think of when I hear it. I mean it's quite a strong word, perhaps distasteful could be used for perfectly reasonable views that you disagree with.

Viiiile

Overused, along with 'big', 'literally' and no doubt some other words.

Cosyblankets · 09/09/2023 08:18

Any staff who doesn't give any client what they're demanding.... they're always rude.

Mylovelygreendress · 09/09/2023 08:28

Everyone demands something rather than asks . People scream at others .
Not in my world .

Santanderfall · 09/09/2023 08:35

So many words are overused on MN.

Though I'm glad to see 'go nuclear' seems to have fallen out of fashion.

AnImaginaryCat · 09/09/2023 08:42

I always spot (and dislike) the use of vile too OP. Though I think for me it's because the one person I know in real life who uses "vile" frequently enough is a seriously judgemental snob. Who literally turns their nose up when they say the word (and really ramps up the "posh" accent for it). It's so weird - and I think I just attribute this attitude and the actions to any poster who writes "vile".

Fallenangelofthenorth · 09/09/2023 08:44

I'm going to have to disagree with you.

Grim and baffling are the most overused words on mumsnet.

Calistano · 09/09/2023 08:47

I also can't stand when someone writes a perfectly legible post and people reply ??? What are you talking about op? I don't know why posters think it's big and clever to advertise their idiocy/lack of comprehension.

I'm always impressed by the number of people on here who "live rurally".

I grew up in the countryside as did nearly everyone I went to school with and I have never in my life heard anyone say that they live rurally. For some reason that phrase really irritates the life out of me.

I hate that. Especially when the poster has nothing else to say other than being shitty about spelling and grammar.

"You found a used condom in your DHs draw?, I'm not sure what you mean? do you mean drawer"

Everyone knows what she meant, including you snarky poster.

AnImaginaryCat · 09/09/2023 08:56

Oh, and another word that causes less of a visceral reaction for me and makes me inwardly chuckle is the word "homemade".

Not sure when it amuses me so much (when used when posters are informing everyone what they are making for dinner).

"I'm making homemade lasagne with a carefully crafted salad, dressed with homemade truffle dressing"

OK. But not like people are reading this thread deciding where they are going to go to eat tonight.

Ihateboris · 09/09/2023 08:57

Game changer

MonumentalLentil · 09/09/2023 08:58

People on MN don't shout or wail or even cry, they scream, at almost everything.

Haha yes! "Live rurally with their husband who earns 6 figures and has an outing hobby (golf or cycling)"

I'm sure average wage is something like 30k but not on here. If there were genuinely the number of people earning 6 figures as claimed on mumsnet, I don't think we'd have any problem whatsoever funding schools and the NHS 🤣

I see your toxic vile and raise you fuming.

I'm holding 'terrified' close to my chest

Gaslighting. Everyone on mumsnet thinks someone is gaslighting them. I've never heard it used in real life!

Yes!! And also 'critical thinking' When someone uses this phrase they're accusing someone of being stupid.

Me too. I'm also sure that none of these rural dwellers work in the countryside.

Calistano · 08/09/2023 21:34

What does it mean?? I have asked this before and crickets. I am missing some vital context. I get the gist of it, but have no idea of the origin.

The bridge thing?

My assumption has always been that its a reference to someone in Texas being sold 'London Bridge' which apparently wasnt 'the' London Bridge, or at least was a mismash or something of perhaps a bridge that might have been formed of stones from London Bridge.

So they were sold a pup anyway.

Praps some of the more annoying terms could just be replaced with some variety of "cunt". Narcissists are cunts. Vile, grim and suchlike could be cunting, cuntish, cuntable, cunttastic or similar. Controlling, cuntrolling, easy that one. Toxic, cuntaminated. Baffled - hm - cuntfused?

"I'm not being tricksy or here to start drama
But am often cuntfused by the Christmas pyjama"

for instance.

I think that they do that because otherwise posters simply can't comprehend that you can't go to a shop after 7pm without it involving a long drive. Taxi service can also be a issue etc. So post C section if the DP doesn't come in with the much needed milk, it is a big deal.

Vile was in fashion about ten years ago, my DD's used to use it a lot, in a typical teenage way.

🤷🏼‍♀️

Love it! In fact I think I shall roll it out in real life

IsItNearlyFriday · 09/09/2023 10:53

No one raises their voice or shouts - they "yell".

And people rarely just "talk" to someone who they feel has wronged them. They have to "confront" them or "call them out".

It's usually an excuse to make things seem more dramatic than they actually are.

MonumentalLentil · 09/09/2023 10:59

Yikes!

From an adult. Seems wrong. Not vile or grim though, just wrong.

whatsappdoc · 09/09/2023 11:01

Have we mentioned 'confront' yet? Mostly done to SILs, MILs, women on buses and teachers. Why discuss when you can 'confront'.

Sellingbedtime · 09/09/2023 11:08

There are a lot of "red flags"
