Been watching the series on Netflix and really like her, she seems smart and strong and puts up with a lot. The only thing I don’t understand is allowing the kids to go to Tyson’s fights, he even says he doesn’t want them there.
Has anyone else seen the series?
it’s made me really intrigued about the traveller lifestyle and how things must be for females

I'm two episodes in. Yet again another long suffering, walked over woman in a relationship with a man where it's ALL about him. Fuck that shit.

Tinktravels · 26/08/2023 18:03

Anytime there's anything posted about travellers online the comments are full to the top of racism.
People have no issue being racist towards travellers even in 2023.
It's disgusting.

As in all cultures there are good and bad . Travellers have rough and respectable families just as Gorgers do . We have a couple of travelling families in our town who have been there for centuries and are liked and respected by Gorgers and have even married no romanies . We had some Irish travellers pass through and they were just awful. There is good and bad in all of us .

In what way can a misogynistic homophobic antisemitic irresponsible man child like Tyson Fury be considered a role model?

Tinktravels · 26/08/2023 18:13

I'd also like to point out that lots of travelling girls do finish education and I personally know many young traveller girls who have great jobs. A friend of mine is currently studying to become a lawyer, and another I know has just graduated university and is becoming an English teacher.

I’m not a fan of the names either but..each to their own etc
Molly mae wasn’t how I expected her, Tommy (is it? Forgotten!) has amazing blue eyes

I was struck by how Tommy said repeatedly that he wants ten kids, then later said he has no intention of ever changing a nappy. And Molly Mae mentioned that he doesn't want them to go to school but she's hoping to talk him round. So he wants all these kids, but expects his wife to not only go through ten pregnancies and births but also do all the work looking after them and educating them.

Fifty years ago it was the norm for a man to work and the woman to be at home with the kids . A man could beat his wife and the police and neighbours wouldn't do anything as it was a domestic. Parents used to physically punish their kids and teachers caned pupils . If a man got a woman pregnant pressure was heaped on the couple to get married. Sex was never spoken about by women in public or on tv and swearing was a big no no in front of women, kids or on the tv . Women rarely swore in public If a woman got absolutely drunk it was shameful. A woman couldn't get a mortgage in her own right , plus there were very few women in management and women drivers were very much in the minority. Sexual harassment was rife and a woman was blamed if she got raped on a date or knew the man . It was very much a man's world . Cultures evolve and change . Romany Travellers were descended from Muslim tribes that's why their culture is somewhat similar to Muslims .

@Fruitynutcase The Romanis' are descended from the Indian Hindu Dalit communities rather than Muslims. Their traditions are very similar to Indian/general South Asian customs.

I actually feel the opposite. She's strong to some extent but I don't think it's particularly strong to stay and put up with someone who treats you like crap, like Tyson.

He has surrendered to his moods. He doesn't see any reason to try to change how he acts and he certainly doesn't seem to be apologetic for the crap he puts her through.

He's disrespectful and self centred.

And she allows her kids to keep seeing this. To normalise this. She's clearly stayed for the lifestyle and money and I don't respect that, albeit I understand it. I think in their case, distance is what allows her to carry on. The fact he's hardly ever around.

They've had baby 7 now and quite frankly I feel sorry for all of the kids. The older ones who have to do more than their fair share of childcare and the younger ones who must barely get a look in. I have 3 children and Im already spread as thinly as possible. 7 kids, in a marriage that's so up and down, is irresponsible.

He didn’t even know what a placenta was in the ad for the show. That’s what poor education does.

And we’re supposed to find it hilarious 🙄

But travellers see Gorger culture as wrong . It's there culture and it's there norm . Not my norm but it's their norm .

Exactly. He's a joke of a man. I will genuinely be deeply disappointed if my son grows up to be anything like him.

It's not a surprise though, Tyson is a carbon copy of his dad.

Being a cultural norm, doesn't make it right.

Obviously they can do as they like, they are. But I still find him a horrible partner (his behaviour at the christening was horrible and I wonder what he'd be like without cameras). And I still rolled my eyes majorly when I saw they'd had another baby. In a marriage that's that dysfunctional.

Interesting. But she is an English Romany. I'm nor sure how much overlap there is with Irish Travellers. I could be quite mistaken though !

They go to a lot of the same events etc but they are vastly different. Most people don't even know that they are 2 different ethnic groups which is annoying!

Sorry and judt to add, he absolutely is a role model for traveller men suffering with mental health. He is the closest example they have to someone expanding into the mainstream and I pray to God he never stops just because of the evil shown by people on this thread.

None of that justifies the way he treats his wife or what he said about his sister, or the homophobia and antisemitism. An antisemite should not be held up as a role model, no matter how much money he has.

Disturbing? Because I asked who you think is evil? That's a very strong word.

To me misogyny is evil. Homophobia is evil. Anti-semitism is evil. And Tyson Fury is fully responsible for the things he says, he's a grown man. In what way does he not have access to the wider world? He has the Internet, he is a big user of social media, he has travelled the world and interacted with all sorts of people. He was internationally famous when he claimed that Jewish people own the banks and media and are brainwashing people, not some children wo doesn't know any better. And yes if an Amish person said they would hang their own sister I'd hold them responsible for their words.

MikeRafone · 27/08/2023 01:18

I can't stand the hatred for travellers.

Where I live we had travellers visit this summer. One pub shut and bolted the doors as soon as they arrived. The other pub was smashed up as it stayed open, the third pub was scammed if a sizeable amount of money, either pay up or we will come back later. They knew the other pub had been smashed so they had to pay up or face similar. It would put staff at risk, customers at risk and police turning up would delay retribution.

you can’t stand the hatred for travellers, can you understand people being put in danger, scammed & intimidated isn’t endearing

I’ve watched a few episodes. I have mixed feelings about Paris.
She is a fantastic mother. She is very articulate. She has a very good understanding of mental health struggles.

I don’t envy her future with those children though, the boys in particular will be a carbon copy of their dad and will be tough work during teens and adulthood. They will have grown up seeing her being treated very poorly and that she accepts and excuses it. They will then treat their wives in the same manner, and so the cycle continues

I'm not saying she isn't but how do you know she's a fantastic mother based in her public image?
