Been watching the series on Netflix and really like her, she seems smart and strong and puts up with a lot. The only thing I don’t understand is allowing the kids to go to Tyson’s fights, he even says he doesn’t want them there.
Has anyone else seen the series?
it’s made me really intrigued about the traveller lifestyle and how things must be for females

Having a culture where the foundation is based heavily on women staying at home and keeping house is not acceptable

why?

Because it's blatantly sexist.

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 26/08/2023 13:58

I too thought this going to be a thread about someone who'd had a truly rotten time at Disneyland.
😂😂😂
But yeah, Tyson Fury is a vile excuse for a man. I don't know much about his wife, but the unkind comments about the dog seem to indicate she's a dick too.

Boomboom22 · 26/08/2023 14:01

Katie price is way more educated, at one point before the coke and insecurity messed up her head she was a great businesswoman. This lady does not come across as educated.
Hardly racism when around here the police won't step into traveller sites at all, too dangerous, a cop was killed deliberately by dragging him behind a car not long ago, they act like they are above the law and we let them. No other culture would be allowed to remove girls from school without evidence of home schooling, but if services can't set foot on the camps it's not happening is it?
The ones who live in houses have essentially left the culture proper.

Thepeopleversuswork · 26/08/2023 14:09

@PollyThePixie

Paris made it very clear to her daughter that she’d need to get a job when older and wouldn’t be scrounging of her dad.

So that being the case why would you allow her to do something which makes it exponentially harder to get a job?

Cant have it both ways. If they actually want the girl to be financially independent they can’t deprive her of the basic tools needed to do this.

Grin Yeah I had a second of thinking it was about someone being angry at something that happened in Paris too (in France) ! 😬

But yeah, Tyson Fury is a vile excuse for a man. I don't know much about his wife, but the unkind comments about the dog seem to indicate she's a dick too.*

Yep agree with this! ^ As I said earlier in the thread, they deserve each other!

Yep this! ^ And I also wonder why this culture is virtually untouchable. Hmm

"I’m pretty sure Venezuela (the eldest daughter) does some kind of home schooling/has tutoring from home"

Pmsl, how are you "pretty sure"? 🤣

She doesn't have tutors

@TrustMyArse Because that’s what Paris, her mother, said in an interview and on instagram last year when she left school. Seems like a strange thing to lie about.

Pmsl (ick, how cringe), how do you know “she doesn’t have tutors”?

Next time, @ me pls hun x

I agree. It’s what’s puzzling me.

Oh that’s OK then. Women aren’t allowed freedom until marriage.

False.

PollyThePixie · 26/08/2023 15:32

@Proudgypsy

HI, are you the poster from the traveler community who did an AMA a few years ago?

it was very interesting.

Proudgypsy · 26/08/2023 15:41

Not me @PollyThePixie not sure I could cope with that!

EvelynKatie · 26/08/2023 16:13

Proudgypsy · 26/08/2023 15:15

False.

Apologies if that’s wrong then! I don’t like to hear of women having fewer rights than men no matter what culture, so if that poster is wrong then I’ll take that back.

LouieWain · 26/08/2023 16:19

I think this is the traveller AMA. I found it really interesting.

Yes I thought it was a other ' France is overrated 'thread!

visiondivisionrevision · 26/08/2023 16:36

I also thought this world be some drama about Eurostar train strikes or the Metro.

Anyway, I've discovered that there is a girl called Venezuela (!) who left school at 11. Is this legal? If so, how? Will she do GCSEs at least?

Interesting. But she is an English Romany. I'm nor sure how much overlap there is with Irish Travellers. I could be quite mistaken though !

pickledandpuzzled · 26/08/2023 10:43

@Proudgypsy not at all, I'm trying to reconcile my unease with certain cultural traditions, with my desire not to be racist.

In that post I was responding directly to @ClemmyTine's post. If what she said is true, then my comment stands.

I'm not saying it's ok. Just stating a fact from what I've seen of travellers. I haven't seen the Fury's though.

Enfys1982 · 26/08/2023 16:59

This must be the third or fourth thread about the Fury’s I’ve seen on here this week expressing shock at how badly he treats her. Anyone who knows anything about gypsies and travellers will know that it’s a deeply misogynistic community, very old fashioned and fiercely protective of their culture. To the extent that they remove their kids from school before the end of primary IMO to prevent them seeing how the rest of society live and wanting out.

Ohyousillydivvy · 26/08/2023 17:33

Proudgypsy · 26/08/2023 07:25

@pickledandpuzzled I think there's a difference between a person who fully understands another culture as forms an opinion on it (be it positive or negative) and a person who just 'disapproves' of something they know nothing about simply because it doesn't conform to their own beliefs.

The education thing is never going to be fully understood because it's the most important thing in a lot of cultures. It just so happens that that is not the case in ours. That doesn't mean to say that there aren't plenty who choose to be formally educated, it's just not the case for the majority.

I live in an area with a lot of travellers and see the affects that hsving little formal education has on families. The men go round knocking on doors asking for work & the women are mainly SAHM. There's a lot of cash in hand jobs and black market activities going on to earn extra money.

It just doesn't seem to be a very secure way of earning an income. If they were educated, they'd have more career options & less likely to get into trouble with the police.

This user is a revolting and manipulative troll so we've removed all their threads and posts.

Fifty years ago it was the norm for a man to work and the woman to be at home with the kids . A man could beat his wife and the police and neighbours wouldn't do anything as it was a domestic. Parents used to physically punish their kids and teachers caned pupils . If a man got a woman pregnant pressure was heaped on the couple to get married. Sex was never spoken about by women in public or on tv and swearing was a big no no in front of women, kids or on the tv . Women rarely swore in public If a woman got absolutely drunk it was shameful. A woman couldn't get a mortgage in her own right , plus there were very few women in management and women drivers were very much in the minority. Sexual harassment was rife and a woman was blamed if she got raped on a date or knew the man . It was very much a man's world . Cultures evolve and change . Romany Travellers were descended from Muslim tribes that's why their culture is somewhat similar to Muslims .

Travellers think gorger culture is a bad influence. That's not to say they are against gorgers as they do mix at school. A traveller man is brought up to defend himself and to provide for his family. It is shameful to them to have their wife having to go to work to provide . It's a very macho culture not unlike the Uk up until the late seventies. I think Thatcher coming into power broke down a lot of old fashioned stereotypes.

Fruitynutcase · 26/08/2023 17:55

Just to add to my last post I remember my dad and brother and a lot of men pissed off that a woman Omg 😱 a woman was in charge .
