What is the point?? Am I missing something??

They smell nice….

Sunshinebuttercupsrainbows · 23/08/2023 20:32

All about the photo opportunities.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/08/2023 20:33

they smell like an elderly aunt’s knicker drawer

SoupDragon · 23/08/2023 20:33

They smell amazing.

You can buy fresh lavender products.

not that I've ever been on a coach trip to one. There's a local one with a footpath through it though.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/08/2023 20:33

Photos ! That’s it- they charge you to walk through a field, they charge you extra to eat there, then flog you bunches of the stuff.

Azaeleasinbloom · 23/08/2023 20:34

Never been to one, but I would assume the aroma is stunning, and they probably have a gift shop with all things lavender - soaps, lotions, edible stuff, candles.
I find it hard to grow here in Scotland, but I would love to have an area of the garden blooming with lavender.

calmcoco · 23/08/2023 20:35

Very calming, very pretty, very nostalgic, and smell nice.

IMO when you've seen one you've seen them all.

Escapefromhell · 23/08/2023 20:35

They are an alternative to visiting garden centres. It isn’t about plants… it is all about selling you hand cream and wicker shit.

Bit like Legoland and Alton Towers then.

Bee sting enthusiasts

FleetwudMac · 23/08/2023 20:36

It's for Instagram. visitors strip off and take photos of themselves crying, tits out or a fake hike. Then post it on LinkedIn for extra attention.

Sunflower fields is all about #makingmemories with the kids.

😂

Whataretheodds · 23/08/2023 20:36

They look and smell gorgeous.

Lacew1ng55 · 23/08/2023 20:37

No LegoLand and Alton Towers don’t look and smell stunning.

BarelyLiterate · 23/08/2023 20:37

It’s a nice day out for elderly ladies. Maybe when you & I are their age we will be interested in such things?
I’m not a fan of the smell of lavender myself, but it has its uses. I walk past loads of it on my normal lunchtime circuit & the local bumble bee population absolutely adore the stuff. There are always dozens of them around each bush.

Lacew1ng55 · 23/08/2023 20:38

People were visiting lavender fields in France long before Instagram. I remember visiting them as a teen and going to lavender festivals.

Lavender is so calming.

PurpleWhirple · 23/08/2023 20:40

I didn't know this was a thing - I would go! I love the smell of fresh lavender

Oh dear. I must have missed the casual ageism in the instructions when I went to one aged about 22.

Tallisimo · 23/08/2023 20:41

I went to one last month. Fabulous views, lavender as far as the eye could see. Loads of bees and butterflies. Plus amazing wildflower meadows.didn’t see anyone stripping off or crying. Lots of people picnicking (no charge); taking photos, enjoying the fresh air and aroma. Was a very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. No tacky souvenirs, either.

SpamFrittersYouSay · 23/08/2023 20:43

Don't go then 🤷‍♂️

Tallisimo · 23/08/2023 20:44

PS. I’m not an elderly lady.

Velvian · 23/08/2023 20:45

We drove past pur nearest one the other day. The lavender outside the front of our house is more impressive. I don't get it either.

I missed that memo too.

Why would lavender cause people to cry?

Toodaloobaloo · 23/08/2023 20:47

The ageism and sexism on this thread is appalling. Vile.
