I saw something recently about a sunflower field that's open to the public putting signs up asking instagrammer types to keep their kit on. Looking nude and nonchalant with a floral backdrop must be trendy.

The sunflower fields you can pick sunflowers

I love lavender. It is alive with insects in the summer and evokes a hazy, nostalgic dream of summers past.

This just reminds me of billy connolly talking about lavender is meat to help you sleep but if that the case why aren’t the people on the farms all falling asleep on the job

teachername · 23/08/2023 22:04

It's a sensory thing. On a beautiful sunny day, blue sky, purple flowers, green leaves, the scent, the sound of bees. If you enjoy that kind of simple experience (and I do) it's great. If you're someone who doesn't, you wouldn't want to waste your time/money.

teachername · 23/08/2023 22:06

PS not all lavender is calming - some types are invigorating and do the opposite. Make sure you get the right type!

fetchacloth · 23/08/2023 22:10

Lavender makes me sneeze so it's a definite nono for me 🙄

Oh dear! I appear to have upset the under 70s section lavender farm fan club! 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, being ageist is absolutely hilarious isn't it? Well worth 3 laughing emoji.

Hanones · 23/08/2023 22:16

Lavender is not meat!!

Blueuggboots · 23/08/2023 22:18

I HATE the smell of lavender.....I literally can't think if anything worse!!

NoraLuka · 23/08/2023 22:22

DD2 hates lavender because it reminds her of a headlice lotion we had when the DC were in primary school.

Never been to a lavender farm but it sounds lovely.

Christ, the sneering shite on this thread. Of all the things in life to be judgemental about, people you don’t know who like looking at fields of nice-smelling plants and buying some soap seems like a weird target. No need to be a complete cunt about it.

I’ve never been to a lavender farm but I can’t really see why a nice stroll through some pleasant-smelling fields full of purple flowers is such an incomprehensible choice of pastime.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2023 22:31

Lavender is amazing

My favourite comment on this thread is: "you might as well ask what's the point of anything, you could just stay at home" 😂😂😂😂

Existential angst or what 😂

Hanones · 23/08/2023 22:32

Oh fuck knows. I'm sure the OP spends her weekends up to her arsehole in cocaine and edgy Tuvalan modern art representations of non binary victims of the war on cyclists but most people just use what leisure time they have doing stuff that sounds like it might be nice.

Do you own a lavender farm or something?

Jeez ,was just asking what the attraction was about walking past the same type of plant in a field you can look at for free from afar.

I just don't "get" the attraction... Clearly lots of others do, otherwise they wouldn't exist.as a thing to do.

I remember going to Norfolk lavender as a kid in the 80s/90s. Deffo not for Insta 😂

we actually went last month with our boys as it was down the road from where we were staying and they had great fun playing amongst it (you don’t pay to get in). It smells amazing. The shop was lovely! I’m deffo not elderly…

Valerie23 · 23/08/2023 22:46

If you think Lavender is bad, how about EIGHT acres of sunflowers for people to pose in?

I love lavender - both to smell and in food. Lavender ice cream is just amazing! Or lavender creme brulee. 😍

I went to a lavender farm on Kangaroo Island earlier this year whose cafe did an outstanding cooked breakfast followed by a lavender scone with cream and lavender jelly. What's not to like?!

This is all very absolutist

YesitsBess · 23/08/2023 22:55

Hang on....who the fuck is getting their norks out in lavender fields?

@teachername, @arghtriffid, yes, I could definitely see the appeal in that.
