Bees! Loads of lovely bees 🐝

Ted27 · 23/08/2023 20:49

I have a huge lavender patch on my allotment near the gate.
It's the first thing I smell and see when I arrive. Its lovely to get the whiff of scent when I walk past to the water tap or to fill the bird feeders. In flower its stunning and alive with bees and butterflies. I've never been stung by a bee.

I'm 58 - does that put me in the 'elderly' category?

Anotherchristianmama · 23/08/2023 20:49

I mean, I hate the smell of lavender but who cares? Let people enjoy the things they enjoy.

LadyKenya · 23/08/2023 20:53

I adore lavender, the sight of it, and the smell. Not to mention the bees that appreciate it too, lovely! Bees do not go around just stinging people either.🐝

BarelyLiterate · 23/08/2023 20:53

Oh dear! I appear to have upset the under 70s section lavender farm fan club! 🤣🤣🤣

ImWally6 · 23/08/2023 21:08

Would love to go! I'm 38.....and would be fully clothed with no tears in my eyes.

Hanones · 23/08/2023 21:09

What's the point of anything?

Just stay at home.

ZitWit · 23/08/2023 21:10

@FleetwudMac

Absolutely laughing my head off at your comment!!👏
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

ssd · 23/08/2023 21:10

Don't think there's any near Glasgow

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 23/08/2023 21:13

We have one just up the road. Looks beautiful but I hate the smell.

Lots of people go to take photos there - local photographers offer photo shoots.

scrivette · 23/08/2023 21:14

They are for the photographers to do photo shoots with families of little children dressed in white (they must have to crop the hoards of people out of the pictures later!)

Although I would like to go just to smell it all and buy some lavender smelling soap.

CMOTDibbler · 23/08/2023 21:15

Theres one near us, and the smell is just incredible. They sell lots of lovely things in the shop and its as good a day as any other.
We also have a farm which grows delphiniums for petal confetti, and for the 2 weeks it is open each year it is absolutely swarmed. That is instagram central to the extent they have separate tickets for professional photographers, and it is literally just walking along paths between head height flowers. The lavender field is in a beautiful location with amazing views. I know which I prefer

Newbeeee88 · 23/08/2023 21:15

I really love them! And I am not the type to take photos!

They are a bit overly expensive though.

Yoghurtpotsatdawn · 23/08/2023 21:17

I’ve always loved lavender - how it looks and smells in all forms - fields, perfumes, creams, candles, dried in vases. I’m 62 now but it’s been something I’ve loved since as long as I can remember. Lavender farms have the same appeal as a chocolate factory to me. Can’t get enough of either.

Tessisme · 23/08/2023 21:29

I love lavender. I wonder if there are any farms in NI... off to check now!

Fluffypiki · 23/08/2023 21:29

Nah I get it, I mean £5 and they are not even that big.
Also of course everything in the shop is extortion. I mean they are nice but not £5 nice.

Ponoka7 · 23/08/2023 21:35

I grow pots of lavender and it is nice to see the insects around it. I love snowdrops, bluebells and tulips, I've been to a local woodlands planted with these. It's like the first walk along a beach, just uplifting.

Daffodilwoman · 23/08/2023 21:41

Never been but they sound amazing.
Ive got lavender growing in my garden, agree about it smelling beautiful and the bees love it.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 23/08/2023 21:43

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/08/2023 20:33

they smell like an elderly aunt’s knicker drawer

I feel seen.

Sigmama · 23/08/2023 21:45

What stuff do you like op that we can sneer at?

Fizbosshoes · 23/08/2023 21:50

There's one near us, I've not been. I would go if anyone asked me but I'm not sure I'd bother going on my own or persuade any family to go....although DH once dragged persuaded us to go to a garlic farm, and I think the lavender would smell much nicer!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 23/08/2023 21:52

Azaeleasinbloom · 23/08/2023 20:34

Never been to one, but I would assume the aroma is stunning, and they probably have a gift shop with all things lavender - soaps, lotions, edible stuff, candles.
I find it hard to grow here in Scotland, but I would love to have an area of the garden blooming with lavender.

I'm o
In North east Scotland and have three big bushes of lavender here. It's lovely.

FettleOfKish · 23/08/2023 21:52

FleetwudMac · 23/08/2023 20:36

It's for Instagram. visitors strip off and take photos of themselves crying, tits out or a fake hike. Then post it on LinkedIn for extra attention.

Sunflower fields is all about #makingmemories with the kids.

😂

Christ I've never seen that at our local lavender farm! It's mostly coach loads of old Ladies stocking up on bags of lavender for their knicker drawers 😂

RitzyMcFitzy · 23/08/2023 21:54

I saw something recently about a sunflower field that's open to the public putting signs up asking instagrammer types to keep their kit on. Looking nude and nonchalant with a floral backdrop must be trendy.

EeesandWhizz · 23/08/2023 21:59

A lavender scone as part of your cream tea.

That's all.
