Like coaches will drop off dozens of people...

What is the point?? Am I missing something??

I've been to lavender & sunflower 🌻 & wild flower fields

They are lovely on a hot summers day

LSSG · 24/08/2023 06:59

They look and smell great. Therefore people want to visit, its not rocket science. As with anywhere that looks scenic, people want photos for insta etc. there are usually professional photographers there taking photos of women in wafty dresses, which I have to say is a step too far for me Grin I took the dc, we enjoyed it, however it was during that coming out of lockdown period so perhaps an element of desperation for something outdoors to do Grin had a delightful lavender ice cream. Probably wouldn't go again.

TerrorOwls · 24/08/2023 07:28

I really want to go. It's just seems so beautiful to me. There are none near me unfortunately and I'd have to drive about an hr and half away.

fortunehunting · 24/08/2023 07:53

For the gorgeous lemon and lavender cake in the cafe after, with a cup of tea, while you look out of the glorious views.

It's not a photo opp for everyone.... It's just nice to have a mooch and pass the time in nature.

I’m getting an allotment in the autumn, might just grow a load of lavender. I won’t be getting my norks out, it would startle my fellow allotment owners and I don’t want to wither anyone’s courgettes.

😆

Think of the pollution from the vehicles taking people to visit lavender farms.
Time for activists to glue themselves to the road outside lavender farms.
😉😁😁😁😁

The one at Selborne is right beside the main road. You hardly need a diversion.

A lavender scone as part of your cream tea.

That's all.

Lavender ice cream, plants to buy, walking through the lavender fields in fresh air, getting away from people who hate lavender farms...

People on coaches visit tulip fields in Holland, people like flowers, fresh air and the chance to buy plants. People visit vineyards. Some have no garden and it is a special day out.

Supporting a business that is usually family run.

You don't have to buy the stuff in the shop.

You can just go and stuff your face at an ice cream farm instead, or stay at home and be a miserable sod who hates nature, flowers and bees.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 23/08/2023 20:33

they smell like an elderly aunt’s knicker drawer

😂😂😂

I agree. Awful smells and just a one way ticket to feeling sleepy.

I agree with PP it’s for the Insta.

Sgtmajormummy · 24/08/2023 10:44

Lavender in food? YES.
I had a memorable pasta dish with white fish (sea bass IIRC) and lavender flowers that, although you didn’t eat them, gave you an additional olfactory experience as you ate.
Lavender honey on white cheese.
Lavender, lemon and poppyseed cake.

GolgafrinchamB · 24/08/2023 11:02

I had no idea they were a tourist thing - turns out there's one within an hour of me.

I do love the scent, and I guess it's no weirder than a visit to a garden centre or something. It sounds rather nice.

garlictwist · 24/08/2023 11:05

I have never seen a lavender farm outside of France. Is it a down south thing? I would love to go to one.

We went to a pick your own sunflower place at the weekend. A few bedraggled sunflowers in a bog. Not really echoes of Provence.

SecondhandSalute · 24/08/2023 11:07

I didn’t know they were a coach trip thing, but surely it’s just a matter of lavender being more aesthetically appealing to both sight and smell, and in having way more potential retail opportunities, than a farm that specialised in rapeseed or curly kale?

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 24/08/2023 11:14

I kinda want to go to sunflower fields, I shan't be taking my clothes off in them though, or buying stuff made from wicker.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 24/08/2023 11:16

We went to one while holidaying in Norfolk about 40 years ago. Strangely I can't find my insta pictures of it but I know the gift shop solved a lot of the bring back from holiday gifts.

AlwaysHeadingWest · 24/08/2023 11:20

I did not even know they lavender farms were a thing! Blush I guess it's not really warm enough where I live.

They sound lovely though, I adore the smell - I find it so calming.

MsFannySqueers · 24/08/2023 11:26

@Hanones 😂I love lavender. I love a lavender farm. However if you have never eaten lavender before just be very careful. I was horrendously sick after eating cake containing lavender for the first time. It cause an allergic reaction in some people. I have eaten many other herbs without ill effects.

NinaGM · 24/08/2023 11:35

Hanones · 23/08/2023 21:09

What's the point of anything?

Just stay at home.

That's what I wondered.

Surely the lavendar fields are the same as visiting the bulb fields and Keukenhof in The Netherlands ( most amazing sight), the sunflower fields in France and the UK.

One of my young DS’s was fascinated by ‘potions’ ( Harry Potter connected) and a keen gardener. We had a brilliant day at a Lavendar Farm where they demonstrated making lavendar oil. Developing and supporting his interests from a young age has led to his degree in biochemistry.

Oh dear! I appear to have upset the under 70s section lavender farm fan club! 🤣🤣🤣

Never been to a lavender farm and not upset - but that was an arsehole comment - as is this .

Beezknees · 24/08/2023 12:12

I didn't know this was a thing that people did.

They do! And then they take all their clothes off (I learned from this thread) for reasons as yet unclear.

00100001 · 25/08/2023 08:27

Ok, you've all convinced me to give it a fair go.... Off to see some lavender in a field soon!

Sunflower fields cam fuck right off. Creepy fucking places

Do you have trypophobia, binary? I can't look at Sunflower heads for long because of the seed cluster.

00100001 · 25/08/2023 18:46

No, I think it's because they're like eyes.
