People Using my drive

It's our village fete today, never go because we work Saturday's, I started work first left in my car, DH about 30 mins later in his, leaving one on the drive, got home first to find 3 cars on my drive, one of them I know belongs to a friend, other two do not recognise.

Rang friend to ask if she knew who the others belonged to (as a bit annoyed she had not even asked if she could use my drive for her's ) to be told yes they belong to school mum friends of hers and she knew we would be at work so did not see a problem telling them to park there.

Pointed out I only just managed to get on my own drive and DH will be home shortly and will need to park on the drive as the whole village is rammed with cars, to be told they will be gone by 6pm as just about to have food and a drink, asked for at least one to be moved to park on our own drive, to be told I am unreasonable and ruining it for them.

Very tempted to block one in and refuse to move until the morning because I am shattered, had a stupuidly busy day and just want to chill in my PJ's with food and a glass off wine

OP what happened? We need an update!

Tontostitis · 20/08/2023 07:48

Shameless placemarking

I never understand the obsession with diagrams on threads like this. The point is surely that there are three cars in OP's driveway. How much of a diagram do you need for that, and why?

I don’t make the rules but it’s everyone’s responsibility to enforce them 😆

Inastatus · 20/08/2023 08:14

Here for the update.

OilOfRoses · 20/08/2023 08:17

When someone parked over my driveway I called the police. Based on their response, I let the family concerned know that they had ten minutes before the tow truck would be called. It was gone in two.

LookingforMaryPoppins · 20/08/2023 08:30

Desperate for an update on this!

The police will do nothing about a car parked ON a private drive.

LlynTegid · 20/08/2023 08:33

Given the subsequent updates since my comment from the OP, I'd support the car being blocked in until tomorrow.

2 cars blocked in am kanckered having food and am not going to answer the door why should I go out when am knackered girls just got back from fete with a pizza and had a really good day but apparently I am the devil for ruining their day but my girls had a really good day

This post didn't make sense. Who are the girls? Who got pizza? If the girls are her daughter's how did she ruin their day?

No, I just wanted to know if it was within my rights to have the car towed. I didn't want to do anything illegal.

Timeisallwehave · 20/08/2023 08:40

I bet this is another thread which won’t ever update.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/08/2023 08:47

When they arrive back text you're just about to start eating so can't move now. Use her exact words.

Debini · 20/08/2023 08:59

Any update OP, did they come back?

SophieHope7 · 20/08/2023 09:00

@RedDawg we actually did used to do this but then my DH said we were being petty... Then it got a bit sad because the man's wife died and his son was ill and we felt mean. So now we're back to square one and I just have to bear it. But I do enjoy when our occasional weekend visitors get there first and the offending car has to find another spot (our street isn't easy). GAH I'm such a child

Anyone else desperate for an update on this situation! Flip come on OP!

Snazzysausage · 20/08/2023 09:04

Oh no, I thought my watch this thread hadn't worked and there was bound to be an update! Hope it's not a "I thought better of it and let them out with a smile" situation in the end 😬

It was possibly the most entertaining parking thread I've seen on here, although it lacked the lovely coda about the dog groomer running a business from his house, and his customers regularly blocking the street with their cars. The OP on that one reported him to the council, and they told him he couldn't run a business from there, so he moved away.

That kind of trumps getting someone's car moved imo.

Do you know if the dog groomer thread ever made it into classics or is still around? Could do with a good read!!

Iwantcakeeveryday · 20/08/2023 09:06

Oh I hate when these things aren't updated!

tt9 · 20/08/2023 09:07

@quicklybeendrivenmad please give us an update. I am starting to think your CF friend and Co are now holding you and your DH hostage until you let them leave with their cars?

I think they likely returned late and knocked on the door. The OP probably stood behind the curtains in an effort to hide but because she was so drunk from all the panic wine, she hadn't realised the curtains weren't drawn. So it turns out she was just standing in front of an open window staring directly at her friends and their acquaintances. They asked her to move the cars to which the OP replied "give me a second!" She then closed all the curtains and pretended to be out. The friends accepted this and said they'd come back for the cars in the morning before posting a sizeable dog turd through her letter box.

It would be so funny if that actually happened! All apart from the dog turd being posted through her letterbox, assuming that her front door actually has a letterbox.

Shittyflute · 20/08/2023 09:11

I hate when there's no update. Either we've all been had, or the resolution was a bit of a damp squib. If it's the latter, I'd still rather know.

I'm thinking the latter.

Don’t hold your breath for the ‘updates’, everyone.

Flipflipmania · 20/08/2023 09:19

It’s 09.18 on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning

it always makes me smile when posters chase desperately for updates. As though they fathom anyone who isn’t as obsessed with mumsnet as they are!

I have a vague recollection it got removed because the police got involved and it was too identifying. But it was epic!
