Hate my new bath.. I could cry..

We have never had any money to do anything to our houses in the 10+ years we've lived together.
We had a shell suite style bathroom that was in when we moved, not exactly modern but worked ok.

We have saved and had a new bathroom fitted this one

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/turin-l-shaped-1700-complete-bathroom-package?sku=TRCBS-RH

It looks lovely. But I'm a huge bath person.. it's my comfort.. and the bath is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever laid in.
It's so narrow there is no where to put my arms.. and where I would rest my head just hurts my neck. I come out feeling more stressed than when I went in. I could cry.
What can I do?
Please say someone else has been here 😢

My parents have this bathroom suite and as much as I love a bath, I won’t have another one in it when visiting. It’s not comfortable at all. I wonder if there are ‘bath tester’ jobs out there.

Summering23 · 17/08/2023 03:04

I’ve got this bath and it’s ok once you get used to it. I usually sit a bit more upright with my arms out though as I’m usually scrolling on my phone.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 17/08/2023 06:46

If you were happy with your old bath, why not go and get it out of the skip before it gets taken away?
You could then replace the uncomfortable new one yourselves AT NO EXTRA COST.
And then figure out what to do with it. Potentially return it to Victorian Plumbing and get a refund? Ask your plumber if they could buy it from you and use it on another job? List it for sale online?

YABU not to have tested the bath before shelling out £ on it.
and to throw a perfectly usable bath tub out rather than giving it away/ recycling it

Buggysleeper · 17/08/2023 06:53

Ahhh I’ve got the same bath as you and I was so disappointed! Not enough space for my arms. A bath pillow helped. I’ve tried sitting at the other end and it’s just weird. We have our taps in the middle. I am just going to suck it up and change it one day. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking. No advice, but solidarity! I will be so happy when it eventually gets changed (in about 10 years).

Cruisinforcroissant · 17/08/2023 07:07

So many people are struggling with it and yet there are only 9 5 star reviews. Shame these candid bath thoughts weren’t there for others to read and take heed. I’m usually really cynical about “checking all the reviews” as assume only terrible reviews are left but this has changed my mind.
I love a bath with my book and so empathise with those here who are not comfy.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 17/08/2023 07:08

I'm a bath person and I spent hours finding the right one. I did go to showrooms and was that person trying them all out. I had a list of criteria and only one bath fulfilled this in the end. Love it now.

If I was you, change it, you will never be happy with it.

minmooch · 17/08/2023 07:11

We changed a super comfy but old bath for similar to op's bath. We both hate it too. I used to read in the bath and love a long soak. It takes so much water to fill and is incredibly uncomfortable to lie in.

We have had maybe one or two baths since it was installed.

On the upside we use less water now and I have more time as I don't waste an hour lolling in the bath. But I do miss it occasionally.

Looks great, but it's now just a huge shower tray!

eggsinonetamborine · 17/08/2023 08:53

I'm glad I'm not alone! I've had a couple more baths and I've made some peace with it.. I can cope with the narrowness I suppose as I do tend to go on my phone in the bath.. I guess I was lying straight when I first got in as I was focusing on it. But lying down and finding somewhere to rest my head is still so uncomfortable no matter how many pillows/towels I've tried 😢
So I might give it a month and then change it. Im not keen on the full suite really.. it's too chunky for our size bathroom. No room for a bin, toilet roll holder etc. The only thing I actually like is that the flush is better than our old one!

I'm presuming you're sitting/lying in it with your head at the opposite end to the shower bit, to avoid sitting on the plughole with your back against the overflow? In which case I wonder if an inflatable wedge pillow would cover those so you could sit or lie with your head at the wider shower end, giving more room for your arms?

Toomuchtrouble4me · 17/08/2023 10:59

I have the opposite issue - our new bath is too long, so I now can’t push my feet on the end of the tub to stay above water to read. I’ve taken to putting a set of baby steps in to rest my feet on, but if I move it floats upward. I can’t lay and soak, I have to swim!

Terryscombover · 17/08/2023 13:25

You have to slide in to it. Mine is the same and at first I just couldn't work it out. But slide down the sloped end and it should be OK.

apric0t · 17/08/2023 19:13

Omg FIL has that bath installed in 'our' bit of their house, I am a big bath person too and it's just the worst bath ever!!!! I feel your pain

I’ve also now got “ I hate my new expensive mattress” thing going on.
Ive got used to the horrid bath by now ( 6 years on) but mattress will possibly defeat my perseverance

I bought ours during covid and whilst asking for advice, the salesman on the telephone persuaded me that mine was better than a replacement sprung memory foam one that I was originally interested in.
Such an expensive mistake but I’ll have to live with it for a few more years. I can’t justify spending thousands again so soon.

eggsinonetamborine · 18/08/2023 09:19

@Storynanny1 highly recommend a memory foam topper for mattress regret!

I hate memory foam though so currently thinking of other solutions!

My DD bought a mattress topper from B and M and it's wonderfully comfortable on their spare bed.

Storynanny1 · 18/08/2023 17:15

I might patent this idea for dips in mattresses! Sewed some fleece circles and stuffed them! If I can feel the tips through the stuffed circles, a duvet, a mattress protector and a fitted sheet, I shall be a real princess!
Maybe I could try to design something to use in uncomfortable baths!

Have you considered something like this?

sammyseymour · 20/08/2023 11:18

I have this bath (came with the house) I hate it I'm a size 10 and it's too tight on the shoulders. It uses alot of water. My husband and I were discussing yesterday about changing it.

Carron Quantum 1700x700mm Double Ended was what I got and can recommend (sorry not 750 wide like I originally said) although think prices have shot up in the last 10 years. Hope you get sorted OP. Xx

Realise this is an old thread.

How do you find the thin edge of the bath and the slope please?
Have settled in the same bath but still wavering.
TIA.

@eggsinonetamborine Did you change yours or now used to it?

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 22/06/2026 20:19

Got the Carron Quantum 1700x700mm Double Ended too amd it's so painful!
