Hate my new bath.. I could cry..

We have never had any money to do anything to our houses in the 10+ years we've lived together.
We had a shell suite style bathroom that was in when we moved, not exactly modern but worked ok.

We have saved and had a new bathroom fitted this one

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/turin-l-shaped-1700-complete-bathroom-package?sku=TRCBS-RH

It looks lovely. But I'm a huge bath person.. it's my comfort.. and the bath is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever laid in.
It's so narrow there is no where to put my arms.. and where I would rest my head just hurts my neck. I come out feeling more stressed than when I went in. I could cry.
What can I do?
Please say someone else has been here 😢

@Totalwasteofpaper have you got the same bath? It's awful isn't it!! It's the most uncomfortable thing I've ever. Have you got the full suite or just the bath?

OP look on eBay and see if anyone is selling an old larger bath on there. You could see the narrow one on to a skinny person.

caringcarer · 15/08/2023 11:36

I looked on eBay and found this one. Don't know if you are close to Burntwood.

So do we. It was a budget priced one and it’s so comfortable.
I relied a deep roll top bath recently, an utter nightmare for getting out of as unless you have excellent grip and arm strength.
I had to get on my hands and knees 😡

That's me trying to get out of my corner bath! I had the fear that in trying to turn over on to my hands and knees that I'd slip, get stuck with my arm underneath me and drown myself! 😂

In the end, I let the water drain most of the way before I attempted to get out, just in case!

GrimGrinningGhosts · 15/08/2023 11:37

We had a lovely bath in our old house, so comfortable. When we bought this house 5 years it came with exactly the bath in your photos and I also absolutely detest the thing.
Exactly as you say, it's narrow, uncomfortable and no amount of bath pillow helps. I have found lying slightly on my side helps a bit but to be honest I hate it so much I very very rarely use it. The good point of the new house was the en suite shower which is wonderful. I use that and DH sticks to the horrible bath, which in typical bloke style, he can't see my issue with.

RojoCarlottaValdez · 15/08/2023 12:35

Just change the bath and make sure you get in it yourself when you choose it.

Moonlightsonatas · 15/08/2023 12:38

I remember lying in my bath when I was pregnant to get some relief from my aches and pains and just felt horribly wedged in. I wish we’d got a wider one but we have so little space in the bathroom it would feel more cramped!

Storynanny1 · 15/08/2023 12:44

And to make things worse, the stupid pop up plug thing has broken twice so I’ve given up on that and now I’ve got a old bath plug which I jam in every time I have a bath and doesn’t quite fit properly.
Also, one of the taps is working slightly loose which would mean the whole bath has to come out if it needs replacing as the taps are in the middle on the wall side.
My husband only ever has showers so he’s alright as the square bit at the end is perfect
I had to get the builder to put grab rails on the walls at side and end to assist my getting out of the bath!
As I’m late 60’s I’m assuming that when we replace the bathroom next I’ll give up the bath and get a full width shower with an old ladies seat in …

Iloveanicegarden · 15/08/2023 12:45

When we moved in here the bath room was old fashioned but adequate. As time went by we decided to rip it out and have a new set up. Problem was the position of the furniture was dictated by size of room and windows, so new layout was pretty much identical. The other problem was the bath could only be x long and short baths are hard to find. Second problem was we wanted a vanity type built in sink and they only come in small sizes too so DH couldn't wash his hair (I know...but that's a whole new story). So, the upshot of that is he washes (hair and bod) in the older upstairs shower room. The shower is lovely but I can't climb over the bath side to get in. Neither of us have used the bath.
The builder put in underfloor heating but didn't tell us how to use it and timer is stupidly complicated, so we don't use that either. We replaced the tiles with wall panels, but getting hold of what we wanted took so long we got compensation from the supplier. The plumber assured us he could put new windows in but he got it wrong so we had to get that put right.

All in all a total waste of money and I really wished we hadn't bothered.

Aria20 · 15/08/2023 13:19

We had the same bath in our old house - I didn't mind it. We had the taps in the middle. I'm smaller tho - 5foot4 size 10 so whilst it is narrow and angular it wasn't too tight for me.

If it's no good though and uncomfortable then definitely replace. If you can remove it carefully you should be able to sell it easily as it's like brand new and you can then install a new bath as the plumbing is there it shouldn't be too hard.

I wanted to empathise. We moved house a year or so ago, and everyone of the baths we have are spa baths. Given I too will ONLY have a bath (hate showers) I was soo happy thinking it would be like a spa every night. NOO! The stupid jets just capture so much dirt - it's actually disgusting. And the amount of money I spend on specialist cleaner is also disgusting.

I long to replace all the baths with just standard normal ones. If I were you, rather than try and make it work I'd just replace too.

I just used to fill the bath with cold water to the level of the jets and pour dettol in occasionally. Seemed to do the job.

I miss my spa bath, probably the only thing I miss about that house. Well, that and the layout of the kitchen.

Sprinkles211 · 15/08/2023 13:49

My mum has that same bathroom and deeply regrets it, the toilet is a royal pain in the arse after 3 months the toilet seat slides to the side and traps your arse cheek even when retightened and the sink drives her nuts as when you wash your hands water goes everywhere as its too shallow so splashes back especially if the kids use it, she's not complained about the bath but I think she's mainly a shower person, sorry op no help but your not on your own with the regret

GodisaBC · 15/08/2023 14:08

I have this bath but with taps down the side. I hate it and no longer have baths.
5 years later and I’m changing the whole bathroom and planning on getting a Japanese soaking tub.

OP , not helpful but what were you thinking, that doesn't even look comfy in the photo?! 😭

I use Pure Spa sanitising tablets after each bath. £6 a month and cleans thoroughly - I do get a lovely spa every night!

Tinysoxx · 15/08/2023 15:07

The bath has an internal dimension at the shoulders and arm section of 52.2cm which will make you feel like you’re in a coffin.
Get someone to measure your arm-shoulder-arm width if you do change it then you can work out which ones to dismiss before trapsing round showrooms.

hartof · 15/08/2023 15:13

We used to have one of these and I would sit cross legged in the square part like it was a hot tub. I miss it, we moved into a new build that has a really narrow bath

Pinkpetunias23 · 15/08/2023 15:17

I thought my new bath was very narrow at first but Ive now got used to it and don't notice it anymore.

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 18:38

@Tinysoxx how did you work that out? I don't understand the diagram at all. I think I need a another 10-20cm at the very least on that x

@Tinysoxx how did you work that out? I don't understand the diagram at all. I think I need a another 10-20cm at the very least on that x

So the width of the bath is 705mm
The diagram shows the sides being 105mm and 78mm. So the bit inside is 705 - (105+78)= 522

Presuming this is the right diagram on the website (you could always physically check with a tape measure).

I ended up with an Arezzo supercast cook and Lewis one from b&q. It was about £300 and has 25yr or 30yr guarantee. Plumber said it was sturdy and would last well, not likely to crack. It's ok, and has a decent slope to lie down . About 1700 x 700 is the measure I think.

saffy2 · 16/08/2023 19:21

We had our bathroom done in our old house and I was devastated at my first bath because the bath wasn’t deep enough, the water barely covered my pubic area and didn’t even go over my belly! The overflow was so low down. I was really upset, it also hadn’t occurred to me that baths may be deeper or shallower than others. I’m also not huge. We have moved now and will be replacing this bathroom soon and I am determined to ensure I get a deep enough bath, the one currently in is lovely and deep. I just assumed they all would be. I really feel your pain x

Iwanttobeagranny · 16/08/2023 19:23

I had this problem…we put a new bath in a few years ago and it was the same as yours, too narrow and not comfortable. We moved after 2 years and by then I’d got used to it. We moved in to rented and oh how I wish I still had my ‘hated’ replacement bath as the one I have now is too short, about 2”’s deep and wedged between 2 walls so absolutely no where to put your head so I have to sit up in the bath 😭

Rachand23 · 16/08/2023 19:32

Go on the suppliers website/Facebook site and say “I hate this Bath so much I cried” Etc etc. See if they will offer you a replacement. Good luck
