We have never had any money to do anything to our houses in the 10+ years we've lived together.
We had a shell suite style bathroom that was in when we moved, not exactly modern but worked ok.

We have saved and had a new bathroom fitted this one

www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/turin-l-shaped-1700-complete-bathroom-package?sku=TRCBS-RH

It looks lovely. But I'm a huge bath person.. it's my comfort.. and the bath is the most uncomfortable thing I've ever laid in.
It's so narrow there is no where to put my arms.. and where I would rest my head just hurts my neck. I come out feeling more stressed than when I went in. I could cry.
What can I do?
Please say someone else has been here 😢

I really sympathise OP. I thought it was just me! I used to love having a long, bubbly bath and almost droppng my book in when I was falling asleep. It really was one of life's pleasures. I spent a large part of my inheritance from my dad putting in a new bathroom and walk in shower. The shower is great but I've probably had three baths in as many years because I just can't get comfortable in it. It's too long and deep and I end up just sitting there, getting washed but not relaxing. Also, I'm getting old and I worry about getting stuck in it. It's showers for me now but it's not the same. I HATE MY BATH.

SprinkleRainbow · 16/08/2023 19:40

I rent so can't change my bath but my life its a horrible bath! It's really shallow, like half the depth to the floor and has these built in horrible scratchy bumps which are horrible to stand on let alone lie. It's slippyier than a wet flappy fish!
I don't even like baths and I hate ours 🤣

radiantorange · 16/08/2023 20:10

I had a terrible bath in my last flat and a bath pillow did nothing! What did help was a bunch of those air filled packaging bags… I’d throw those in and position them under my back. When I was done I’d rinse them and hang them up.

you probably need to save for a new bath with a better slope and try and sell that one then swap them out.

good luck!

belgiumchocolates · 16/08/2023 20:24

I have this exact bath and I hate it. Can't even use it for a bath only showers as it is too narrow to lie in. The measurements were the same size as the previous bath so I thought no problem. But the rim/frame is thick so the inner measurement was smaller which I did not factor in. Gutted for you OP

eggsinonetamborine · 15/08/2023 01:00

@Storynanny1 have you still got it or did you have it taken out? X

Still have it - sort of got used to it and will be going shower only on next upgrade ( which as my husband says “ will see us out….”!!)
I’ve started taking my mobile phone in the bathroom with me if my husband is out . Just in case I get stuck - one of my lovely stepdaughters or my lovely neigh out next door would nip in with their spare keys and hoick me out or cover me up a bit if it was a fire engine job!

Storynanny1 · 16/08/2023 20:34

Neighbour - wish it was possible to edit!

Storynanny1 · 16/08/2023 20:35

Also if it was taken the floor would need redoing and the floor tiles match the wall tiles and so on!

Lostinbrum · 16/08/2023 20:41

When we were bath shopping I got in loads at the showroom and tried them out. Ones I liked the look of were uncomfortable or not big enough. I feel your pain it's awful not being able to get comfortable in the bath and enjoy a long soak

Sureaseggs44 · 16/08/2023 20:48

We stayed in a lovely holiday house and it had a huge free standing slipper bath .

I saw it and thought wow !

but I hated it . It was so hard to get in and out of . It felt really hard . I could not get comfortable at all . Kept slipping down it it then my legs were too bent .

on the positive side I now know I would never buy one like that , luxury or not .

JhsLs · 16/08/2023 20:48

I have this bathroom suite - it’s horrific. Bath is so narrow and short. Used to adore baths. Don’t ever bother now.

m00rfarm · 16/08/2023 20:55

I also thought they were all the same - and then I used the bath in my sister's house and it was way too narrow - so now if I buy a new one, I am going to climb in and out until I find something comfortable. I don't care what they say in the shop - if they are not happy with me trying, then I am not buying!

GettingStuffed · 16/08/2023 20:59

I read in the bath and ours has a sloping side so I prop my arms against the side

We had our bathroom done in our old house and I was devastated at my first bath because the bath wasn’t deep enough, the water barely covered my pubic area and didn’t even go over my belly! The overflow was so low down. I was really upset, it also hadn’t occurred to me that baths may be deeper or shallower than others. I’m also not huge. We have moved now and will be replacing this bathroom soon and I am determined to ensure I get a deep enough bath, the one currently in is lovely and deep. I just assumed they all would be. I really feel your pain x

My parents moved into a house with a bath like that, I once tried using it on a visit and it was just like you describe, so I just took showers there. They've since replaced it with a walk in shower as neither are so mobile as they once were.

In my own bath at home, a slipper bath with a gently sloping "head" end, I can soak in water up to my armpits, and rest my arms by my sides quite comfortably. I can spend ages in it.

YukoandHiro · 16/08/2023 21:15

The bath in my old flat was like this. We've had a new bathroom suite fitted but tbh I'm still too scared to try it in case it's the same. But I don't have baths much so it doesn't really matter. My joy is my new showers

Grammarnut · 16/08/2023 21:27

My daughter has this bath, came with house. She seems to find it ok but has a huge bath pillow - she is also only 5'2", which probably makes a difference. The shower controls are a real pain, too, IMHO.

InWalksBarbarella · 16/08/2023 21:34

Our old bath was so comfortable but over 20 years old and the whole room really needed updating. We visited loads of showrooms, and yes I climbed in and out of every bath on display...but still ended up with something uncomfortable. Two years later I've just about got used to it but I still miss the old bath.
It's something to do with the angle of the slope, I'm too upright.

L3andlosingit · 16/08/2023 21:50

I bought a similar style and regret it hugely. Thought the width was okay but only saw it online like some of you all. I discovered the sides slope inwards as well as the end. It’s horrendous even for the children. I wear plus size and I daren’t try to have a bath as I know I’ll get stuck. What makes it worse is my neighbour is manager of the shop I got it from so I have to pretend I like it as she’s lovely.

Toffeecake88 · 16/08/2023 22:26

We had this exact shape bath fitted eight years ago. I absolutely hated it at first as it felt so narrow compared to my old bath (although I loved the extra space for the overbath shower at the fatter end). My taps are in the middle and I use a bath pillow. I love it now. I think like all new things, they are just different and take getting used to.

suzy2b · 16/08/2023 22:40

We have this bath to nobody likes it

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 16/08/2023 22:45

We stayed in an Airbnb a few weeks ago that had a huge deep square ended bath with a steep sloping back. I wasn’t sure but tried it out and oh my god. The most comfortable bath I’ve ever had. The slope fitted me perfectly and I could lay with my legs completely out straight. No idea where it came from. We need to replace our knackered thirty year old bathroom and I don’t know where the dream bath came from.

Tobydogrocks · 16/08/2023 22:51

Before I opened the thread I just knew it would be that bath 😆

We have the exact same suite. I have hated the bath ever since we got it a few years back, it does genuinely feel like a coffin. In fact in the past few years we have used the bath only a handful of times due to how narrow and uncomfortable it is.

If anyone is thinking of buying it, don’t bother 😆

SgtPercyTwentyman · 16/08/2023 23:14

Since reading your post OP my screen has been filled with adverts for Victoria Plumb, many showing the same bathroom suite you mention.

Jeannie88 · 17/08/2023 00:08

Can you change the bath, bigger one in the range of the suite? X

GellerYeller · 17/08/2023 00:25

DH chose our last bath which was, like yours, too narrow for arms to rest comfortably, and a strange angle to the sloped end. Either I was submerged and squashed or bolt upright, shivering in shallow water.
After a few baths and me grumbling profusely, I was accused of being diva-ish. By DH and his mate, the plumber who fitted it. So I made them both get in it. Separately. It was replaced within days.
Expensive lesson learned. 🤞you get sorted so you can love your soak soon.
