He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Wonderful!!!! It's such a great moment. My eldest has speech delay and he didn't get mummy till 3. Such a gift to hear it.

Just wait now - you will hear mummy all the time....

Can I make a suggestion? Write all of these little lovely moments down and date them, then on the 31st December sit with a glass of wine and read them all back. It's a brilliant way of remembering the best moments and a nice New Year tradition too.

I’m definitely going to do this ❤️

From another asd mum- I’m so very happy for you. A little tearful actually. it’s one of those things that is such a huge leap forward, with no increments. Yesterday he didn’t know how to call for you as Mummy. Today he does. What a wonderful day for you both.

Amazing ❤

Aw OP this is so lovely!

My autistic son was a late talker too. He was non verbal until 4 then called me "money" from the ages of 4-5 and has only now (age 5.5) started calling me "mummy"

Once upon a time we thought he'd never speak. Nowadays we pray for 5 minutes peace 😁

It started with single words, then demands for certain things, then echolalia / scripting and now I'd say he's 80% verbal (scripting still makes up about 20% of his speech but its always in context)

Well done to your little boy ❤️
