My son just called me mummy

He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Disagreed with me??
I don't know what you mean?

Merryoldgoat · 10/01/2024 12:03

Oh god - I'M SO SORRY!

I'm so sorry and I will get my comment removed now.

I was on a thread about school absence and taking about my kids getting ill and people don't believe you when you say how ill your kids are and I thought you were trying to call me a liar and I absolutely should have checked what you meant.

Please accept my genuine apology - I should not have replied like that.

Oh thank God!!

I was sat here having a meltdown!

What a pair we are!

Merryoldgoat · 10/01/2024 12:06

@Tilllly

I'm really really sorry for misinterpreting your post - I have asked for my nasty reply to be removed.

I promise you I'm not horrible - I just felt really hurt when I thought my positive post had been tainted but it absolutely hadn't been and I'm really sorry.

Merryoldgoat · 10/01/2024 12:08

I feel terrible and that's entirely deserved. None of this is your fault. I should have just asked you what you meant rather than go straight on the attack.

I just get a bit sensitive about my boys - people often think I'm exaggerating/coddling them and that they either don't have Autism or that I just feed them crap because I'm lazy and I jumped very forcefully to the wrong conclusion and I should not have.

OP posts:
Tilllly · 10/01/2024 12:08

I thought you thought I was horrible

  • and I'd been so excited for you!

I'm not sure I've seen your other thread tho

But either way, let's both forgive our miscommunication and agree we're both nice!

And I'm genuinely chuffed for the progress (and do hope you've not all got flu and the pox!!)

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 10/01/2024 12:09

That's beautiful 😍

I won't tell you I'm sat having chemo then... 😁

Please don't feel bad for me. I'm fine now I know you're not upset with me. And I'm definitely not upset with you.

As for the rest of- there's no scale for measuring sensitivity. You can't be over sensitive. You're caring for your children, like a good mother does. Anyone questioning how you do that or the challenges they face, can get to fuck. And be grateful they don't have the battles you do

Merryoldgoat · 10/01/2024 12:13

@Tilllly you are 100% lovely.

@Merryoldgoat this thread is so lovely; the way your words have captured your love for ds has made me well up like the daft old fool that I am 💖

My ds is autistic and has always been extremely verbal (!) I will remind myself of your thread next time I am aching for him to please stop talking. He is a teenager now and I found a t-shirt which says "Warning! I may spontaneously talk about [specific esoteric thing he loves to talk about]" and he finds it so funny cos it's true!

🤣🤣🤣

No it's been good cos it totally distracted me!!

Why don't you ask MNHQ to delete our entire exchange so it doesn't "contaminate" your lovely positive thread? They can see from this that I'm ok with that

Merryoldgoat · 10/01/2024 12:48

@Tilllly

No we'll leave it to remind me not to jump to conclusions!

I hope your treatment is going okay ❤

My older boy sounds like your son. He's 10 and yesterday said 'mum - have you ever had a myocardial infarction?'

Christ knows what he's going to be into next.

The are true individuals and I adore them although they drive me absolutely barmy sometimes.

I hope everything goes well for you @Tilllly That exchange made me love this thread even more. Tone can be interpretated differently in writing but how quick you both were to apologise just makes this feel more wholesome.

My 4 year old is turning into your son @LauderSyme Honestly, waited 3 years for him to speak and now he never stops. And the questions... thank god for Google. His imagination is my favourite though, great story telling. Did you know there's a forest on the moon? You can only get there in the purple rocket though. The white one just flies around the world.

SussexLass87 · 10/01/2024 22:21

This is amazing to read. Congratulations OP ❤️

Popcorn23 · 10/01/2024 22:26

What a lovely heartwarming moment! Bless him 😊

Hellokittymania · 10/01/2024 22:32

What a lovely post, and I’m so happy for you. My best friend and I will never forget when her three-year-old said mommy on Christmas Day. He two, has autism, and the only words he would say or things like airplane and bus, so on Christmas day, I was playing where is the duck with him, and hiding his toy duck. He was making the sound where is the comma and began to say duck, I’m thinking he understood this concept, I said where is mommy, and he repeated mommy. This was in Vietnam, and my friend was about to go to work, I called to her and said you have to come here. And I was praying he would say it again, and he did. We were in tears, really happy tears but it’s a day we will never ever forget.

I should like to hear more about the forest on the moon and the purple rocket... 🚀
The two of you should write a story about that ☺️

Thank you, that's a kind thing to say. I'd not thought of it from that angle but actually @Merryoldgoat was straight in there with a wholesome apology for misunderstanding - which is not only another reflection of great parenting, but shows everything good about this site. There's a few threads at the moment about people being nasty, and there seem to be some posters who just want to be horrible, but most are just decent people. Obviously not quite as perfect as Merry and I, but close ;)

Tilllly · 11/01/2024 03:41

@Hellokittymania
Awwww that's brought a tear to my eye 💔 how beautiful

Merryoldgoat · 11/01/2024 08:39

@Hellokittymania thats so lovely! These moments are truly magical.

@CoffeeLover90 I agree about the moon forest - that sounds like a brilliant children’s book.

@Tilllly - you have been so gracious in accepting my apology. I will always admit it if I’m wrong - it’s something I’ve worked on a long time. Hope you are feeling ok after your treatment yesterday ❤️

I'm still in bed deciding if I feel lazy or energetic
Am going to have to get up tho as need meds and have to eat first
But my bed is so cosy and it neeeeeds me 😁

CoffeeLover90 · 11/01/2024 19:31

I can't take credit ladies, its all his own story. Apparently you have to be very careful in the forest though (why? I ask) tut the elves can see mammy, they know. Oh OK then 🤣
I'd be here all night with these though. I've scanned all his watched history and there is nothing related to these stories at all. It's all in the imagination of a 4 year old. Magical.

I'm not having a go at you @CoffeeLover90 but come on, any idiot knows the elves can see. Bleeding obvious surely?
🤣🤣🤣

You have to get this book written
I'd buy it (for me)
