He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Absolutely beautiful. Put a smile on my face! X

Wonderfulstuff · 11/08/2023 20:37

How lovely - further proof that 'not yet verbal' is a far better turn of phrase. Enjoy all the Mummies that are yet to come.

That’s amazing . There’s a lady called Jo on fb who runs free workshops called “ can do speech therapy” which teaches ways to connect , not just speech .

Mommytomylittlestars · 11/08/2023 21:54

I am so happy for you 🥲
And you have reminded me of the first time my son called me Mummy for my attention when he was about 4&1/2…. Last month he finished year 6 & had 3 short lines in his Year 6 play…. it was absolutely incredible moment. (He still has significant language difficulties but now has functional language & can have short little conversations)

Thank you for sharing this post & reminding me of the absolute elation of that first time they call us Mummy’s after months & months of worrying that they may never speak. I wish your son a bright future. We Mum’s will be there to celebrate their every little achievement 🥰

dementedmummy · 11/08/2023 22:00

This is just exactly the sort of absolutely fabulous news I needed to hear tonight 💖 I love that this has happened for you both x

Aww OP such a proud mummy moment for you 💖 thank you for sharing it with us. Look forward to hearing more of them x

Merryoldgoat · 11/08/2023 22:19

You are all so lovely ❤️

He’s not said it again (of course) but he’s been singing, shouting ‘CHOCOLATE BISCUIT’ and telling us ‘down we go’ and ‘on the bed!’

I’m so happy for him.

I am so pleased for you and proud of you too. What a relaxed and encouraging home you must be giving this young man. He is now taking his first steps into a big overwhelming world - with his 'mummy'. Good luck!!
