My son just called me mummy

He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

Wonderful news, OP. I was just about to turn the computer off when I saw it and had to reply. After a busy day, I'm now going to bed with a smile as I think about your little boy giving you such a joyful surprise. Hugs to you and DC and your trampolining DH.

I'm thinking that as well as classics, MN should have a corner for uplifting stories. Things that lift us all up on grim days. And this thread will be there. How should I go about suggesting this? Does this corner already exist?

Positive41 · 11/08/2023 16:13

Amazing!!!!

My DD is 4 (with SLD and ASD) Was also nonverbal until fairly recently and I remember the first time she called me 'mummy' too. Given she hadn't uttered a word until 4, I had started to think it was a word I would never hear. It is now one of my fondest memories and will stay forever in my heart. She also hasn't stopped saying it since!
