Bloody fucking covid

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 08/08/2023 13:17

I know IABU as there’s a covid board and this is more of a rant, however. I have worked my arse off for months, taking extra shifts, working all week/nearly all week for the majority of the time. I have two weeks of annual leave now, that begun yesterday. I have planned various things with DC for these two weeks. This morning I woke up with a banging headache, sore throat and just general rubbishness. Before heading out for the day with DC I decided to test for covid, on the off-chance…and wouldn’t you know it my test was blazingly positive. Fucking covid. All plans now out the window for the next few days at least, and I’m stuck in bed feeling awful. I’ve only had covid once before, and that was most unpleasant.

AIBU to think this is just bloody typical and to wish covid would just fuck the fuck off?

Ah OP that's rubbish. Hope you feel better soon 🤞

Berlinlover · 08/08/2023 13:21

If you were heading out for the day why didn’t you just keep going?

Purpleavocado · 08/08/2023 13:22

It's so crap! I'm on day 7 and feeling more or less human, but still coughing and testing positive. Hope you feel better soon.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/08/2023 13:23

l caught it 5 weeks ago. It’s gifted me long Covid. Muzzy head and total exhaustion.

Ilikealltings · 08/08/2023 13:26

You might be able to get your annual leave back from work, at least that's something. Get well soon.

Quarantino · 08/08/2023 13:28

My sympathies!
I'm paranoid about this happening. Thanks for testing and not spreading it - there are still vulnerable people out there for whom it could be really harmful.

If more people were still testing, the person who gave it to you might have avoided spreading it (not blaming, just there is scope for spread to be reduced in general).

Hope you get over it soon Flowers

Silvers11 · 08/08/2023 13:37

So sorry to read this - but things happen and usually for most of us all at the wrong times. Lots of people get ill with things that knock them flat for a few days and not just Covid

Hopefully you can get back some or all of your AL from your employers as a result of this.

I feel for you: 😥Life sometimes just sucks

BabyHaribo · 08/08/2023 13:41

@Berlinlover maybe because the op feels unwell and is acting responsibly?

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow sorry you are still feeling rubbish. Technically it's not called long covid until you've been poorly for at least 3 months, fingers crossed you'll be better by then

Bloops · 08/08/2023 13:51

Can you claim your holiday back at all? Sympathies, I seem to get sick when annual leave is due too

megansmarkle · 08/08/2023 13:57

You cancel annual leave at work
Because you are sick.

The word "but" is problematic

Trickedbyadoughnut · 08/08/2023 13:59

Ah no, that's crap :( Hope you start to feel better soon and, as PPs said, see if you can use sick leave and cancel your AL.

To be fair, if she's feeling awful, the responsible thing would be to stay home regardless of the covid test.

ShortColdandGrey · 08/08/2023 14:26

I just had the same thing happen. 2 weeks off work and I got Covid the 2nd day of my holiday. I was nice though and shared with the rest of my family. It seems to be running a muck at the moment.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 08/08/2023 14:39

Op hope you recover quickly. That's rotten. I Really enjoyed soup with bread to dip when I had it. Drink lots of fluids.

Just be prepared for - why on earth did you test? It's just a cold. We have to learn to live with it. Would you stay home with any other cold? Who cares? Who even has any tests? Why tests these days? I had it and it was brilliant. Just a cold. Are you seeking help for your anxiety? Etc etc.

LEDlightBAN · 08/08/2023 14:45

I was just having this conversation today. Lockdowns caused my DDs speech therapy to suffer.

IG what can we do but carry on?? And hope its the only one of our lifetimes!

I’ve had it twice. It wasn’t ‘just a cold’ for me. 3-4 weeks after second dose I’m still very weak and mentally exhausted.

Its not just a cold. I’m bloody dreading it again. I’ve had to cancel going to see Peter Kay.

FFS. There are people who get more than cold symptoms. It varies. And some of us do test with symptoms.

Where is the indication that the OP needs help for anxiety?

But then, shouldn’t the OP stay home if they are poorly with anything, not just covid? I’ve had a family member hospitalised with flu long before covid was a thing. Vulnerable people are at risk if they catch a wide range of viruses… not just covid.

I think we need to collectively decide whether people are meant to stay home with any potentially nasty and contagious illness (and put legal protection in terms of sick pay etc in place). Or accept that people continue with their lives, regardless of whether they have covid or something else.

No no, I'm not saying these things. I have long covid. I'm saying op should be prepared for the usual shite people come out with on these threads (as listed). Definitely not my opinion!

I’m glad your experience was ‘brilliant’Confused

Mine was and still is shit.

Really? Think you're reading something into that little word that isn't there. I have mega sympathy for the OP. It sucks. And it's not just Covid which causes problems at the wrong time, it is many things. She wants Covid to 'Fuck Off' and I agree with her. I also want other things to F off too. Is that a crime?

Who decided you should be a proof reader for others? Too much time on your hands by the looks of it

Charlotteowensdodgydad · 08/08/2023 14:56

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel I had long Covid, off work for a year, left with permanent damage. Far from brilliant.

ForestGoblin · 08/08/2023 14:58

I have found this really amazing for covid (both shortening an existing infection and fending off from people I've been around who turned out to have it): https://buyenov.com/

It's expensive but in my view absolutely worth it.

(Re "just a cold", you won't find anyone more anti lockdown than me but it definitely isn't just a cold)
