Bloody fucking covid

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 08/08/2023 13:17

I know IABU as there’s a covid board and this is more of a rant, however. I have worked my arse off for months, taking extra shifts, working all week/nearly all week for the majority of the time. I have two weeks of annual leave now, that begun yesterday. I have planned various things with DC for these two weeks. This morning I woke up with a banging headache, sore throat and just general rubbishness. Before heading out for the day with DC I decided to test for covid, on the off-chance…and wouldn’t you know it my test was blazingly positive. Fucking covid. All plans now out the window for the next few days at least, and I’m stuck in bed feeling awful. I’ve only had covid once before, and that was most unpleasant.

AIBU to think this is just bloody typical and to wish covid would just fuck the fuck off?

If you were heading out for the day why didn’t you just keep going?

Not sure if you know or not but Covid is highly contagious and can cause many problems worse than a cold. So when you know you have it you stay at home and wash your hands and that sort of thing. HTH! xx

KinooOrKinog · 08/08/2023 16:19

Out of interest, if you had done the test and it was negative for covid, what would you have done?

I've got Covid. I've just kept up my paracetamol and taken vit c drink. Feel better in 24hrs already. Sometimes you just have to push yourself a bit. I've been out today shopping as I refuse to stay in and mope about. No one is isolating anymore it seems.

I was throwing up from day 2 to 5.

Should l have pushed myself and gone out a bit?

Cucucucu · 08/08/2023 16:44

If you are poorly you should get your anual leave back .
Get better soon.

On the other hand pushing yourself can mean ending up with long covid
I was unwell even after anti virals and off work for nearly 3 weeks. Not a chance I was pushing myself, didn't want complications on top of all the existing health issues
I went from doing 90 min spin classes to struggling with 20 min ones in those 3 weeks

Grapewrath · 08/08/2023 16:47

Such a shame! I felt fine after a day or two so hopefully it will be short lived for you and you can enjoy your holiday

Tootsey11 · 08/08/2023 16:54

Some of the comments on this thread. Op, you done the right thing not going out. Thankyou for being considerate. As for those of you who simply don't give a shiny shit about spreading it about if you had it, shame on you.

To be fair most work places no longer say you should stay home , school also say children should go to school so there is a point to the question

Hbh17 · 08/08/2023 16:56

Just. Stop. Testing. Then you can carry on as normal, even if you feel a bit grotty. Honestly, it's not difficult! This is a problem entirely of your own making.

MojoJojo71 · 08/08/2023 16:58

You have my sympathy OP, I’m off work poorly with my third dose of covid. It’s been ten days now and I still feel like shit. It has totally wiped me out this time

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel is really getting it in the neck from people who lack basic reading comprehension skills, isn't she?

Yes! How has even one, let alone more than one person skim read, barged in and started slinging mud at her? It's obvious that it's examples of things people say.

Wintercomesoon · 08/08/2023 17:02

Covid will not fuck off, neither will other viruses and there’s not always a lot we can do to avoid them. Rest up, hydrate and get better asap OP.

winteriscoming2022 · 08/08/2023 17:08

I'm pretty sure the same sorts of people I see jumping on these posts ( why would you test") would have been the ones to deny Covid existed three years ago ( can you remember the ones saying 'it'll just be like flu' and 'what a lot of fuss about nothing' around March 2020)
I've had Covid four times now, three since having all vaccines. Yes, I know we're not obliged to test but I will if I feel like crap and am due to visit my unwell clients or elderly parents
First was horrendous, in bed for two weeks but not hospitalised, I was lucky.
Next three felt very unwell but only for about 48 hours or so
I think this bloody virus will be with us for good now and, in the same way that I wouldn't go to work or visit vulnerable people with anything contagious, I will continue to test should I get the symptoms ( always identical with me)
I guess it very much depends on your responsibilities and lifestyle ( and moral compass)

Covid is still out there. We had a fatality on our unit last week. She was 39, two kids. Her husband just stood there shaking uncontrollably. I had to call psyc services in the end. That bed was occupied again by handover.

No health conditions apart from the Covid ?

SpottyWindow · 08/08/2023 17:24

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 08/08/2023 14:39

Op hope you recover quickly. That's rotten. I Really enjoyed soup with bread to dip when I had it. Drink lots of fluids.

Just be prepared for - why on earth did you test? It's just a cold. We have to learn to live with it. Would you stay home with any other cold? Who cares? Who even has any tests? Why tests these days? I had it and it was brilliant. Just a cold. Are you seeking help for your anxiety? Etc etc.

Amazing how many people can’t read. So quick to get outraged. I understood your point clearly.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 08/08/2023 17:28

I know a lot of colleagues, etc who are currently poorly with covid. Like bed ridden and say it’s the worst bout of it they’ve had. Not sure if it’s due to how long since they’ve had a vaccine. Certainly seems to be having a resurgence.

You might be able to get your annual leave back from work, at least that's something. Get well soon.

Yes I've done this (a couple times of times in different companies, quite legitimately). It was a huge relief not to have my time off ruined by illness. 🌹

Berlinlover · 08/08/2023 13:21

Durrrrrr. I could it possibly be because she feels ill?

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 08/08/2023 17:31

In fact just looked online and official stats say 28% increase in cases in the last 7 days. Still only 4000 cases but I suspect that’s the tip of the iceberg when it comes to raw numbers as most people aren’t testing. The percentage increase is interesting, quite a jump which ties in with the amount of people I know with it/just had it.

Moonberri · 08/08/2023 17:32

This is the current NHS advice copied from their website:

But if you or your child have tested positive for COVID-19:

  • try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for a further 3 days after your positive test if you are under 18 years
  • try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for a further 5 days after your positive test if you are 18 or over
  • avoid meeting people who are more likely to get seriously ill from viruses, such as people with a weakened immune system, for a further 10 days after your positive test
Yfory · 08/08/2023 17:32

So many comments on this thread from people who think covid is "irrelevant" and "nothing" and "no more than a cold". If thats how it was for you then you got lucky.
Covid for me meant I didnt leave our house for a month (or my bedroom really). I was extremely unwell. I felt absolutely hideous for days. Took me four months to fully recover.
Far worse than a few sniffles or even the worst cold Ive ever had.

Moonberri · 08/08/2023 17:33

Apparently Boots has reported a third increase of sales in covid tests over the last week.

Yfory · 08/08/2023 17:34

@IsTheOffDutyDoneYet- hoping you feel better soon and that covid doesnt totally ruin your summer plans xx

Rudderneck · 08/08/2023 17:36

Too bad you are sick when you planned a holiday. It's not really a different scenario than any other respiratory illness though. If you are needing to stay in bed, do that, otherwise carry on.

Hopefully it won't be as bad for you this time.

No health conditions apart from the Covid ?

What difference does having another health condition make?
