Bloody fucking covid

I know IABU as there’s a covid board and this is more of a rant, however. I have worked my arse off for months, taking extra shifts, working all week/nearly all week for the majority of the time. I have two weeks of annual leave now, that begun yesterday. I have planned various things with DC for these two weeks. This morning I woke up with a banging headache, sore throat and just general rubbishness. Before heading out for the day with DC I decided to test for covid, on the off-chance…and wouldn’t you know it my test was blazingly positive. Fucking covid. All plans now out the window for the next few days at least, and I’m stuck in bed feeling awful. I’ve only had covid once before, and that was most unpleasant.

AIBU to think this is just bloody typical and to wish covid would just fuck the fuck off?

It's on the rise because they have vaccines to sell.

NewName122 · 09/08/2023 00:30

That's so crap. My colleague has been in work coughing and unwell all last week and then told us Friday she has covid, when I'm now on annual leave for 2 weeks. Been hoping so much I don't come down with it. Hope you feel better soon!

NewName122 · 09/08/2023 00:32

Breakoutbertha · 08/08/2023 15:10

I've got Covid. I've just kept up my paracetamol and taken vit c drink. Feel better in 24hrs already. Sometimes you just have to push yourself a bit. I've been out today shopping as I refuse to stay in and mope about. No one is isolating anymore it seems.

That's good you are feeling better. I was bed bound and ready to die when I had covid, never had an illness like it there's no way on earth I could have had a paracetamel and cracked on.

BigBeeee · 09/08/2023 00:37

Yabu taking a test. This isn't 2021.

ilovesooty · 09/08/2023 01:04

Rubbish.

now you all just like the drama that's rubbish too. If people just want to exercise a bit of awareness of potential infection it doesn't make them over dramatic and they don't need to be shouted down by conspiracy theorists. It's perfectly possible to live a normal life while accepting that infections rise in the winter and covid can make some people pretty ill.

lastminutewednesday · 09/08/2023 07:16

I've had covid twice. Worst was equivalent to flu so pretty bad and knocked out for a few days but manageable with paracetamol, fluids and rest. The second, Easter this year was awful. I couldnt get out of bed even to go to the bathroom without help. I was delirious at times and struggling to breathe. Narrowly avoided hospital.

It's not just a cold for everyone at all. But also even if op had something else -flu/any other thing that made her feel shit, why are Pp saying she should push through it and carry on as normal? If you're sick your sick and if you need to stay in bed then you should-flu/covid/whatever.... I don't want to get any of those things especially so she has done the right thing. 'Pushing on' isnt going to make her feel better and isn't great for anyone else she would spread her germs to, regardless of what they are.

I feel sad for you op that your hard worked for plans are spoiled. It's really unfair. I hope you feel better soon.

OCaptain · 09/08/2023 07:42

Hbh17 · 08/08/2023 16:56

Just. Stop. Testing. Then you can carry on as normal, even if you feel a bit grotty. Honestly, it's not difficult! This is a problem entirely of your own making.

What does this even mean? Is it meaning if you don't test, you don't have Covid - just some kind of illness you can carry on your life with?

misskatamari · 09/08/2023 08:10

Why do threads about covid bring out people who just like being utter dicks to other people. It's so dismissive and belittling.

I'm sorry you're not well OP. I finished work for summer and bam, covid as well. Was more ill this time than the previous 2 times i had it, but thankfully the utter exhaustion has eased sooner. I'm on week three now and feel pretty normal, but am still getting more tired than normal, so making sure i don't push myself too much.

The people saying "You just need to push through it" are being so ignorant. That's really terrible advice for covid, and likely one of the reasons so many are ending up with long covid. Covid isn't "just a cold". It you had mild symptoms that's great and i'm happy for you. But don't try to make yourself feel superior by talking down to people who have different experiences to you. FFS, where is the compassion and empathy these days. We don't have to knock people down to build ourselves up and be utter dicks to people for no reason!

eggsandbaconeveryday · 09/08/2023 08:43

My Boss was really ill just over 10 days ago , sore throat, coughing, aches, sickness etc. He took one day off and has been in the office since. Now his wife has it. We were told that a colleague who sat behind him at a meeting has just come back to work after 2 weeks off with Covid ! So it's likely that my boss has had it too ! When I mentioned this to his wife when she came into the office looking rough yesterday she stared at me as though I had 3 heads . I suggested she do a test just to be sure and to go home. She went home but hasn't bothered with a test and will no doubt be in the office shortly ! I'm not impressed , their lack of thought for anyone else is just crap ! I don't want to catch it because I've just gotten over having a PE and DVT but I've had a headache for the last 2 days 🙄😱

Moonberri · 09/08/2023 10:24

Sadly covid has highlighted just how selfish some people are. Lack of empathy, stupid accusations of people "dramatising" their illness, telling people not to test as if sticking your fingers in your ears makes it all go away. Testing is so easy to do, some people just don't want to be inconvenienced for the benefit of others.

I'm glad I tested as now I know I have covid I have protected my family from catching it from me, postponed my son's vaccination at the GP (only I could take him), postponed a health scan I was due at the hospital, avoided seeing my elderly FiL etc and therefore have avoided passing it onto to a potentially large number of people.

Covid is not the same as cold or flu. It is more transmissible, more unpredictable and has a much higher rate of long-term complications.

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 09/08/2023 14:13

EmilyBrontesGhost · 08/08/2023 23:27

Before heading out for the day with DC

Right, so you felt well enough to be heading out with your children.

So what's the problem?

Well actually the whole point is I didn’t feel well enough to head out, hence taking the test. I was explaining I was going to be heading out, because we had plans.

Soo, you either tested randomly, for absolutely no reason or you had symptoms and already KNEW you were unwell and should have used your common sense. 😆😆

IsTheOffDutyDoneYet · 09/08/2023 14:32

Jesus. I didn’t start the thread for a bloody bun fight, merely due to being annoyed that I’ve worked my ass off and all the things I’ve planned have now gone to shit. There is precisely no need for people to be nasty to other people because they choose to test or whatever. I’ve been nowhere other than working and home, so it’s likely to have been from work, which for me is in peoples homes though no one has actively had covid. Some places where you book do still state about covid restrictions, and I’ve a family member with POTS and long covid who was perfectly healthy before getting covid just that one time.

OP posts:
Moonberri · 09/08/2023 15:56

I wouldn't avoid going to the GP/hospital/shops etc if I had a headache and sore throat. But if I knew it was covid then I wouldn't go out. That's the whole point of testing.

bobaloo · 09/08/2023 18:19

if you were going to go out feeling rubbish anyway, why bother testing and staying home just because it's covid? You're either well enough to go out or you're not. Sorry you're unwell, but there are lots of illnesses that people should stay home for, not just covid.

TwilightSkies · 09/08/2023 18:52

So many ignorant, selfish people on this thread. Do you even acknowledge that long Covid exists?
We’re in a surge at the minute, and it will get much worse when schools go back. We can ‘crack on’ all we like, but this virus isn’t going anywhere. It’s exists, even if that fact is inconvenient.
People will say it’s just a cold until they get long Covid.

AllOfThemWitches · 09/08/2023 18:55

Someone should count the number of 'stupid' and 'selfish' on this thread.

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 09/08/2023 19:05

Just had my 4th bout of covid .1st was before vaccinations and l was so ill for 3 months.. worse illness of my life and I've had pneumonia and pleurisy and 16 operations..l was suicidal and put on Diazepam..
2nd and 3rd just like bad flu.. this 4th nearly as bad as 1st.. l already had long covid.. loads of food just tastes like pure salt. This latest one the XBB 1.5 is horrific..gave me laryngitis.. ulcers back of my throat.. deafness..low oxygen.. dysentery.. worse headaches of my life ( and l suffer migrains) .. l was throwing up first 5 days.. I'm now negative but still exhausted . Depressed and aching.
I can't even drink tea anymore.
I'm afraid it's here to stay.. Will always be a new variant.

Post-viral symdrome has always existed.

Fact is, loooong covid had been made "fahionable" in the last three years and there are those still hanging on to the drama.

Honestly, we need to move on.

We have viruses EVERY YEAR. There is nothing special about covid.

Those of us who don't give a toss about it, are honestly sick of the drama.

Neonyellowfish · 09/08/2023 23:13

You don’t need to cancel anything. Take some paracetamol and crack on. You only have yourself to blame for ruining the next few days.

ilovesooty · 09/08/2023 23:17

Where is the evidence of people hanging on to the drama?

Why is it dramatic to exercise a small degree of caution?
